Asus P8P67 Deluxe vs P8Z77-V Deluxe

Yes, most Z77 boards have 4 of them, 2 Intel and 2 Marvel, but never use the Marvel ones for SSD's. They actually perform worse than Intel's 3GB/s ports

Seriously? I have my M4 on the Marvell 6G and my windows is very fast. Should I really reconnect it to the Intel 6G?

As I have 2x Intel 6G, 4x Intel 3G, 2x Marvell 6G and 2x WD Vrap, 2x 7200 HDD, 1x 128GB M4, one optical and one swap-tray, what should I connect where for optimal performance?

I just checked, and my Force 3, and my 1TB Barracuda are both on the Marvell 6G.

Should I really switch it over for optimal performance? How much performance do I stand to gain? :O

For me it's only quite a big trouble doing it since I need to take apart half of the computer, due to cable management behind and the biga$$ watercooler on the side.

For me it's the matter of pushing a button, lifting a panel and swapping two connectors about as far as 2cm, but then again, I'm really lazy.

You guys should always connect SSD's to Intel ports. Apart of being slower, the Marvel controller doesn't support TRIM.

SSD's to Intel ports (SATA III SSD's preferrably to SATA III ports, when both populated, SATAII ports)

CD/DVD can't run on the Marvel controller, so you'll need to use an Intel SATA II port.

HDD's doesn't really matter what cotroller

Well, I'll be changing those over tomorrow morning then. Damnit, that's 5 minutes of EFFORT, this is gonna be difficult.

Done. Rotated 7 SATA connectors... ugh... do I hate crawling... Sorry for hijacking the topic though!

I don't feel some dumb for asking now with some of the forum heavy hitters misaligned slightly too.

Now I have to decide weather to do a complete fresh install, ugh (two weeks worth of hard work and searching), or use the clone program/cable that came with the SSD (done in a few minutes)! Hmmm........................

Thanks Dazz

There are many divided opinions on this one. If your previous hardware was similar, then no need for reinstall, only hunt down all new drivers and install them. Install chipset with -overall function.

Other than adding the SSD's only a 680-GTX that replaces the old 480-GTX I returned the z77 for another 512Mb Crucial M4.

I was thinking that a fresh install of FSX might be in order but I am not sure I can find everything, some things I have the disk's for other were downloaded and then finding all of the key's etc.

Sounds like a lot of work for very little potential gain. Ahh, I think I just made the decision!

Thanks

Yes, exactly my thoughts. I didn't gain anything really by reinstalling, only with an SSD came a HUGE benefit. But I kept the reinstall (I could have restored) because I knew it was a 3 year old install, and being clean is not a bad thing. I often do tend to tweak the system, changing registry and all, and coming off clean does have advantages of non-unknown-errors due to non-tweaked OS, which now performs beautifly on the SSD.

which now performs beautifly on the SSD.

512GB or 256GB?

128GB for windows. No need to throw money around. I know 256GB also performs better according to some tests, nonetheless, the 128GB is marvelous. And it's not even half full yet, although I have almost everything installed. Some audio programs are missing, but they do not take 60GB :)
