I have a problem. Occasionally my computer is either locking up of I get the blue screen of death. I've done some overclocking but with this latest problem, I have dialed the OC back to low levels without success. Is this a hard drive issue? My computer is: ASUS P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 Motherboard i5 2500K 3.3 GHz 6MB Cache LGA1155 95W EVGA GeForce GTX560Ti S/N 1210611561004897 Memory: G Skill Ripjaws Series F3-12 800 CL9D-8GBRL DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 1.5V FSP Aurum Pro Series Model# AU-850PRO

http://techreport.com/news/24045/report-haswell-desktop-tdps-to-reach-84w Rather disappointing if true. Let's hope this is just due to an absolute absence of competition at the high end and not an indicator of clockspeed headroom.

First things first, I overclock my card, GTX 680. I have it at 140/450. Any game I play, including BF3, its stable for hours, no issues. In FSX however, right when I start a flight, the screen stutters for a second or two, I can see in Evga Precision X tool the core clock goes down to 535Mhz and stays there forever until I restart my PC. This obviously reduces my FPS by half. I run Furmark, Heaven, 3dmark for 2-3 hours stable with these OCs. I tried reducing them, if I reduce them to ridiculously low levels, then it is fine. I have Bufferpools and poolsize all set to 0.

I currently have a core i3-2105 which is limited to 3.10 ghz. Within the last few months I have upgraded to fsx which I absolutely love - huge upgrade from fs9. Currently, my frame rates fluctuate between 20-25 fps with occasional stutters and blurries. My question is: I want to upgrade my CPU to possibly a core i5-2500k. Will I get better performance out of this? I have a HIS Raedon 4670 1gb GPU, which I will probably eventually upgrade to a GeForce card. Even with this video card, would it be logical that I'd get improved performance out of the 2500k? Thanks!

Long time flightsim fan, I have been using my good old Q6600 @ 3.6 Ghz for 6 years now. While it did serve me well (and still does as my file server), it could no longer handle FSX. I have always wanted a water cooled PC anyways, and decided this was the right time. Hello all, first post from me - hope it's in the right place. I am looking at getting a new computer, moving onwards and upwards from a Dell inspiron dual core. I am looking at an HP Phoenix: http://www.elive.co.nz/hp-hpe-h9-qu298aa-pc-t20816.php (dollars are in NZ currency). This appeals to me because of it's smaller size, most other gaming pcs are alot bigger. I know the basics of pc specs but not the finer details of motherboard, ram etc specifics, also I understand that FSX can't utilise all that ram. Would this be adequate for playing FSX with the odd add on scenery/aircraft with the scenery settings close to max? FSX is not my main focus in choosing a pc, but w…

Hi Simmers. My questions are: 1. Does i5 2500K use iall the way to 3.7 when running FSX? 2. Do all 4 cores run FSX at the same time? I am still confused. And 3. I only have budget for one single hardware at this time. I'm running i5 2500K at stock clock speed since my mobo doesnt suport OC'ing. I also run 9800GT 1GB 256 bit. Now I really want to improve performance, fps that is.. Which one should I go first, buying an OC suported Mobo or getiing a new GPU. any helps would be much appreciated respectfully

Hey folks, Just another quick question: If fsx only uses up to 4 cores, are you able to set affinity priority in windows task manager to run the likes of active sky etc, so that a.s. isnt using any of the cores fs is using? Regards Paul

My impression is that the now most powerful mainstream CPU are the I5 and I7 series and that they have been around for a long time. Also see that they are still very expensive. What is to expect in the future. What better CPU will we see and when will the prices on I5 and I7 drop to budget level ? BTW is I5 sufficient for FSX with high settings and running complex addons ? How much more powerful is it compared to my current Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz (OC 3.8 GHz) ?

Hey guys, Just need a little help with my computer. I want to run higher graphics and have very smooth running flights with no chopyness during the game. It seems like just running a PMDG 737 NGX or a captain sim 707/ 737 its slow to load from different views and flying through weather slows down my computer. Im not going to lie, I also am not the best with computer stuff. I can fix a car but not my computer. I don't really have a budget and don't mind spending a bit of money to make everything run much faster and have a more enjoyable flying experience. Currently this is what I have! Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 HP Computer Model Number P6152F Rating 4.4? Pro…

Reading that smaller capacity RAM sticks are better for faster addressing, if I want 8 Gb should I choose 2X4 GB or 4X2Gb ? Add:: And just how important is CAS Latency ? Lower costs a lot more.

Hi there! I'm seriuosly considering an upgrade from my existing system to an intel i5 system. The following specs are desired: - intel i5 3570k - an Z77 board ( would be glad for any advise ) - geforce gtx 650 - 8GB RAM - 600watts power - windows 7 64 bit - two SSD drives, with one exclusevely designated for FSX and it's add-ons My intention is to achieve at least a stable 25fps with sliders maxed out, PMDG 737NGX, PMDG 747X, PMDG MD11, complex scenery and weather add-ons ( such as Airports, REX, active sky evolution ). I WILL NOT utilize AI-Traffic at all, so here might be some performance-buffer for the system. Is it realistic to assume th…

Hi everyone,Just wanted to share my experience in using Intel's latest hexacore processor, the 3930K.I thought the Core i7 990X was brilliant for FSX, but the 3930K just blows everything else away, including the 2600K/2700K.First, here's an overview on my system specs: Intel Core i7 3930K ASUS P9PX79 PRO ASUS ENGTX570 DCII (2 in SLI) 16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, 16GBs in Quad Channel (4GB per stick) 64GB Crucial M4 SSD (OS and productivity software on this only) 1TB 5400RPM Western Digital HDD (running FSX and games on this HDD) Cooler Master 1200w PSU (80 plus gold) Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Sharp Aquos Quatronn 40inch LED 1920x1080 FSX w/Acceleration, GEXe, REX, PMDG 747x and…

Switched on my rig and it won't boot nor POST. Power and HD LEDs lit. Removed all drives & graphics card, tested PSU output voltages (all good), reseated RAM and re-tested; still no POST nor error beeps. Mo/bo is a Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R with an Intel E8400 CPU. PSU is an OCZ 700W unit. Can anyone advise if, from the above symptoms, the mo/bo, CPU or PSU has failed? If not then I will have to build a new rig on a limited budget and would appreciate comments on these items I'm considering. Bear in mind that I'm in the UK so suggestions like "Newegg have this on offer" or "Try Bestbuy" are irrelevant  I5-2500K Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 Corsair H80…

Whenever I post here I never seem to get a reply so if anyone has even a remote idea of how to help it would be appreciated. After upgrading to a GTX670FTW that was working perfectly I started getting strange stutters in the sim. For the past week or so I've been tearing my hair out defragging, testing various drivers etc etc etc. I noticed my custom overclock of 4.7 had been set by itself to 4.3 in the bios, I also just did a stress test with Prime95 and CPU core temps are reaching 90c and still rising after a few minutes (I shut down the test) Idle temps at 4.3ghz are showing 34c. I take it 90c is too high under Prime95? or should i just leave it to run? …

For you guys who have been with both the Ivy Bridge and/or Sandy Bridge CPUs, what are the performance differences? (if there are any) and if you've overclocked it, what are the temperature and performance differences between the SB and IB? I've started this thread to gain a larger picture of what people think about these two CPUs and how they're getting on with it using FSX. Honestly I've never owned an Ivy Bridge but I'm very happy with my SB I5-2500K overclocked to 5Ghz . Here's my experience with my CPU... In the winter as the OAT in London drops to around -3c and the temp inside my room is around 18-25c(below 13c when heaters are off), I overclock my CPU to 5…
