After shutting down all non essencial services, processes and apps, prior to launching FSX, is there a way to then work with the VAS like there is with HDDs and RAM - like defragging perhaps? I understand the VAS required by FSX must be contiguous, so is there a means to achieve this? Ta!

I have recently acquired a motherboard which supports the mSATA SSD as an extension. The question is, what is that and how do we use it for our desktop computers? I did hear since it's smaller in capacity (because of the physical available spaces on the card ~ is that still true?), so it's used for low density boot drive? And it's used for something about caching most common applications or games? If this is so, can FSX (engine or addons) benefit from this? If you have mSATA SSD, or knows about this technology; how it is used (generally or on FSX) and benefits desktop machines, please feed me some knowledge

I know this has been much talked about out there, but I would still like to throw it out there; I am getting a new machine, which I initially planned to use my old Asus GTX580 on my new machine. But I've done some reading about the GTX680 (particularly the 4GB), that they are great on image quality for the FSX!! And I'm wondering whether I should get one. So the question really is: If I can only get a 2GB version of the Asus GTX 680 (no other options like 4GB or EVGA), is it worthwhile? Or will there be no much different from my current GTX 580?

I really new to computer building, and I want to make a 2009 compaq desktop into a gaming device for Under 200 dollars. I wanted at first to upgrade just the CPU, but I soon found out in order to put in a AMD phenom 2 x4 965 black edition it needs a 125 watt socket and my current one has a 95 watt socket. I found the CPU for 85$ but I need a motherboard, and eventually I'll get a video card. But since I have to buy a new mobo, I'm really torn between buying a new mobo for a AMD or intel CPU. Should I get a the AMD mentioned above or just go with a i7 , and if so , what kind? I'm ally new as I said and I have a very vague idea on how to go about this project. Btw I w…

Hi all, I'm not sure if I have placed this thread at the right place, as my question is a cross between HW and SW. Anyway, since I'm looking to build a system with 2x 256GB SSDs and a 1x 2TB HDD, should the building order be: Plug one SSD into the MB first, have windows and related drivers installed on it first OC the system and get it stable Install the 2nd SSD and put FS on and addons (excl. textures like clouds and FSGlobal etc. (?)) on it Install the HDD and install textures and meshes on that(?) Tweak the system and FS If I made a mistake in any of the steps, or there are better alternatives, please let me know. Thanks in advanced.

Hey Everyone, This is my second time buying a Flight Sim rig from CyberPower (first time I was Naive and knew nothing about computers) and I definitely need some input on which direction to go in (in terms of components). I want to get the most bang for my buck. I am looking to spend around $1200 USD, at the highest $1300. Building it off of newegg is not an option because the financing department (parental units are much more attracted to the CyberPower 3 Year warranty) I have been looking at the AMD FX 8350 as my base component. Everything else is totally up in the air. I am most likely purchasing this computer within the next two weeks, definitely doing same da…

Hey y'all I just need some quick advice - My current system is highly oced i5-750 - 4ghz (can push to 4.1ghz with keep temps stable) with Ram set to 1900. Now the issue is with my AMD 6970 (I use this for triple screen play). Since reading all the other posts, I hear that Nvidia 670-680 gtx are really good with FSX/Prepar3d for performance. Which video card can give more performance to my system without getting a CPU/motherboard upgrade? (I will do system upgrade in Dec 2013 or early 2014 to Haswell). Full Current System specs are Cpu - 4.0/4.1Ghz (i5-750) Ram - DDR3 - 8GB set to 1900 Hard Drive - Sata 6 Gbit/s - 256 SSD Video Card - 1 AMD 6970 (Tr…

A while back after trying out DX10 for the first time, and was quite satisfied if I may add, I was taking screenshots of my ASUS UEFI BIOS in the event that if something should go wrong that I would have a backup to fix any issue. Now here is the bad part... While taking the pics I pressed the OC Tuner thinking it would take me to another menu but all it did was reboot the computer.Since then, on every startup, the PC starts to boot (I can hear the fans) then all goes quiet for a few seconds and the PC boots up fine. I have read that the OC Tuner is garbage and can fry a CPU, I ran CPU-Z and started FSX, the core speed was 1.6GHz and ran up to 4.4GHz (1648 MHz to 4430 M…

Hey chaps, As the question above suggests...my set-up is pictured below.... As you can see i have 2x27" monitors for my main display (linked as one via my Zotac splitter) and 2 x 19" panels for the undocked gauges... If i get another GTX670OC card, will it benefit the displays enabling them to run more smoothly at all? I think i understand that FSX doesn't benefit from SLI so my angle is from the display side of things... any ideas? Thanks as always! Doug

Hello everyone, Since november 2011, I've been running my i5 2500K on 4.7GHz under 1.39 Volts without any problems (as far as I know). Since my Prime95 test passed, I've never had a BSOD or any strange crashes apart from a few CTDs in FSX that I'm not having anymore. I am currently 90% happy with my performance. I'm using the VSync + 30 FPS tweak which creates big smoothness, but because the frame rate limiter inside FSX eats a bit of frames away there are still occasions where I cannot achieve 30 FPS. Still, FPS never drops below 25, ever. But, whenever I'm using the VSync tweak and FPS drops below 30, it has the exact opposite effect and creates big microstutte…

Hello I am getting ready to purchase a new desktop as my previous one was damaged in moving. I am having difficulty trying to decide on 3 things. 1. I7 3930K vs. I7 3820 either of which I can purchase. I want to get the Max performance possible. I want to run. PMDG 737NGX, REX, ORBX, MEGA SCENERY, ETC. 2. Trying to decide on memory 16GB OC 1600, 1866, or 2133. 3. For the GPU trying to decide on GTX 670 4GB OC, or GTX 680 2GB OC. The motherboard will be an ASUS Sabertooth. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

FInally about to build a new system and I'm confused as all can get out over what processor, what RAM, what RAM works with what processor, SB vs. IB..... My head is spinning. Here's what I'm debating: 1) i7 2700K or i73770K. I plan to overclock but not go crazy. I'm thinking 4.5-4.7 range. I plan to use the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo, which gets highly rated on Newegg (many even praise it over the water cooling units). 2) RAM. I see a lot of people 8GB DDR3 1600, yet others are saying go 8GB DDR3 2400 or even higher speeds with lowest CL. We're getting into some expensive memory at the lower CL. I'm all for spending a little extra money if I'll see the differenc…

Hello! I have been flying on q6600 quad core for a quite some time now, suffering through lags and watching my beloved PMDG NGX become un-flyable as soon as the ground came into sight. I have decided its time to upgrade and that's just what I'm doing. I have been very fortunate to have a new friend who is both tech savy and has what I would call a stockpile of computer parts for me to try out. I have a lot of options to choose from and wanted to know what you all think I should i do! I would like to fly on near max setting running WOAI and will be on Vatsim most flights, I use REX, GEX, UTX, PNW, and various other airport addons. I fly mainly the NGX, a fleet of …

Hello folks, could do some advice regarding printers please? Although I don't do a massive amount of printing, I seem to get through an excessive number of actual printers over a few years. I only use it for home printing - nothing heavy duty. I do use double sided for printing my addon aircraft manuals. I've had 4 printers in the last 8 or 9 years. My latest, an HP Officejet Pro 8000. NOT a cheap device by any means. I'm guessing the reason for this is possibly using, or trying to use non-OEM ink. I think the price of genuine ink is one of the few legal methods of robbery! However, it seems it maybe possible I've shot myself in the foot doing that. Quest…
