I recently bought the above mentioned fan for my cpu (AMD FX8350), installed it and tested the operating of the fan within BIOS and speedfan. Both are showing me an almost constant 1300rpm when idle and under heavy load. I ran prime95 for 10 min. and coretemp showed a temp reading of 72°C while the fan apparently was still running at 1300! Something tells me that the fan speed is not controlled correctly. I already checked twice that the fan is connected into the correct plug (the one saying CPU FAN). Any suggestion is welcome. Btw the mainboard is an ASUS Sabertooth 990fx R2. Max

Dear All, I am looking for some expert guidance please. All and any expert suggestions appreciated. I have an i2700k /ASUS P8Z68/8GB RAM/GTX570 setup running well at 4.5GHz. Win7 sits on a 1Tb HDD single partition. I I set up the Intel RST on a Vertex 4 64 Gb SSD which ran brilliantly for some months then my system crashed, evidently due to an RST driver conflict. I managed to recover the system, reverting to AHCI in the BIOS. I then decided to install my Pepar3D flightsim programme to the 64Gb Vertex 4 to compare performance with the HDD, basically loading times. I was impressed enough to purchase a larger SSD for P3D (only.) My goals now are to (1) re-instal…

Intel: Haswell will draw 50% less power than Ivy Bridge http://www.extremetech.com/computing/156739-intel-haswell-will-draw-50-less-power-than-ivy-bridge Presumably in response to a glut of AMD-related news, Intel has preempted its formal Haswell unveil to announce that its chips will draw “50% less power” than Ivy Bridge on “active” workloads, such as playing a game or watching a movie. This is a dramatic turnaround, considering the latest leaks and rumors had suggested that Haswell was struggling to reach its TDP targets. Perhaps more importantly, though, Intel also put a figure on its efforts to cut idle power consumption, which is one of key areas that …

Hello all. After a few years off i have been bitten by the bug and it is time to get into FSX again, and with that its time for a new build. I have been out of the loop for a while when it comes to PC components. I went on new egg and put some things together and just would like to run it by everyone here for some advice. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know, i would like to get the most for my investment. Right now the price is $1650 including monitor, i would be willing to go up to $1900, even $2000 if there is something that would give a great improvement over what i have now. I have a 500GB HDD right now on the list, but am curious about SDD's. Would i se…

Hello everyone. I am finally going to be buying a long sought after computer. I was ready to buy about 6 months ago, but the funding fell through. I now have sufficient funds to cover $1,700. Which online builder do you all think is the best and most cost efficient? Thanks, John

Hi all, Another noob trying to build an fsx computer... New to posting in avsim forums and computer building, but a long time user of fsx. Looking for advice on a build as i'm new to computer building and just want to make sure everything makes sense and I'm not doing anything stupid. The computer will be specific for fsx, using rex, gex, utx, pmdg ngx, on vatsim and three monitors. All on Win 7. The plan is to overclock it as much as possible. Here are the components I've chosen so far... I need to know how these will stack up with fsx, if i'm going overboard on anything, or there are any compatibility issues i should be aware of. Cors…

Today while I was playing GTA IV after a bit of FSX, the monitor suddenly went blank. Monitor showed no signal DVI. Initially thought graphics card driver crashed, Pressed Ctrl+alt+del and ctrl+shift+esc, all nothing. Hit reset button on the case, nothing. Hit power button and held for over 30 seconds, nothing. Turned it off by turning off the PSU. After a while, powered up PSU again, opened the case, pressed the power button on the motherboard itself. All lights and fans came on as it should, but no image, and motherboard does not POST. No error beeps or error LEDs. Attempted to hit the reset button on the motherboard itself, nothing happened. Hit power button again on …

Dear fellow simmers, I have a configuration which I would like to upgrade, but within limits: - I would like to keep FS9. In understand FSX can do more, but I just have many add-ons for FS9 and prefer to invest in hardware. - Would also like to keep Win XP 32, as I am deeply in love with Flight1's Piper Meridian. - Drives, Case, Power Supply are all very nice & high quality, would like to keep them. What I want to avoid is to spend a lot of money on hardware that is too "strong" or too "modern" for FS9 - in other words, that offers features which are useless looking at FS9s relatively old programming structure. I wonder if I can get some advice he…

Hey folks, short story - yesterday I fitted a 250hdd to my rig so I can use for my dslr photos/music etc. I am replacing my mobo this morning (old one under warranty). (I have a 64b ssd for os and a 256 ssd for fsx) when I put it all back together, I assume i will need to format at least my os ssd (drive c), but will I need to format my other ssd or the hdd (drive g)? Secondly - i know i can download all my fs stuff onto my hdd but can i extract it all there also? - utx gex pmdg etc I realise that it all still has to be installed onto my F\FSX drive. I do not mean to be pushy here, but i need to start this in the next hour or so, as the wife and child are out shoppi…

I just had to uninstall FSX due to a FSUI.DLL that I've been troubleshooting for weeks and got frustrated. I'm currently running W7 on an 256GB Toshiba 830 SSD and it only had 80GB left after FSX and all the addons. I decided to get a hard drive just for FSX and addons and wanted to know what you guys recommend. I'm looking at speed plus capacity.

Hi guys, I hope you can help me. I've been geting this strange error since I formatted and reinstalled Win7 64. But let me begin from the start. Back in February I had a windows update which caused my 32bit applications (FSX inclusive) to crash on starting. Firefox, Explorer, FSX and other apps couldn't run anymore. I then found out that reinstalling the video drivers fixed the issue. Until the next system restart...upon rebooting, the problem came back. So basically I had to reinstall the Nvidia drivers each single day.. Format C: and here we go. I thought I was good. Reinstalled OS and all the updates, the problem showed again. So I reformatted, reinstalled OS and blo…

I'm considering buying a new computer system so I can use FSX fully out with all add ons. Let me point out right away that I do intend to wait to later in the summer when haswell has been released so I can give that a consideration- From what I understand there is no point in waiting for faster CPU when it comes to FSX. So is this upgrade package about the best than we can get for FSX ? http://www.dustinhome.se/product/5010641364/dustin-uppgraderingspaket-intel-i5-3570k-s-1155/ Question if I use my current video card will my system be bottlenecked by it so the new CPU and RAM won't improve things very much? Do you have any good advice for these components ? …

Hey all, As I described in another thread, my next computer will be a laptop, out of necessity. Because the intrnal drive won't be that big, I'd like to run FSX completely of an external HD, but I'm not sure about the connections and sort of drive to use. I estimate that all of FSX will take up between 100 and 200GB, so I was thinking perhaps of a 256GB SSD with USB3.0 connections. Now my question: Does this give sufficient data transfer speeds to make FSX load somewhat fast, or will it be just the same/slower than putting it on an internal 7200RPM drive? Are there any external configurations you would recommend?

HI I'm thinking of updating my 5y old core2 3ghz, gtx 460 to a i5 and GTX660. Should I upgrade anything else, like memory or do you suggest something else? A i7 maybe? Anyway what FPS increase should I see approximately in FSX (and also x-plane)? Would I need to reinstall my various OS? Thanks

I've always understood that FSX multi-threading was pretty poor even after SP2/Acceleration. I just want to double check though. Given the same processor architecture and speed, would FSX benefit from 2 extra cores vs. a 4 core processor? By benefit I mean specifically FPS and then smoothness/stutters. You might guess where this is going next though (and yes I know the architecture and speeds will actually be different then). 4 core Haswell (with or without HT and yes I know we don't know benchmarks) vs. a 6 core LGA2011 Ivy Bridge -E later in the year (again of course we don't know benchmarks yet). Any speculation on which would perform better? I've got …

<p>Hey all,</p> <p> </p> <p>Soon I will buy a new computer, a laptop (Macbook Pro) to be precise. I have to: I travel a lot but would like to keep FSX with me for a multitude of reasons, and I prefer Mac OS as my working platform. On this point I would prefer if there is no discussion... And yes, don't worry, I know FSX runs on Windows only. I will make it a dual-boot system, as I have done with my last two Macs also; works fine.</p> <p> </p> <p>Now to my question. I was wondering whether The i7 quad's Turboboost feature has any positive effect for running FSX? The computer I have in mind has a standard speed of 2,…

IN the past week and a half, I have realized that I have quite a bottleneck in performance running FSX with only scenery add-ons with my pc. GPU=650TIOC but my CPU is.. (Get ready to laugh), and amd 5600+ DC @ 2.8g. I can get 40 fps @ cruise with most things set full tilt, ( both cores of cpu running near 100% most of time ) & it gets a LOT slower on approaches..anyways.. Im really considering a new build very soon, may be a haswell build, however, how can I Utilize my current pc in addition to the new? I have heard of many people running multiple PC's for running sim's, however, I cant come up with any 'beginners guide' or even a reference list of sorts, of whats doo…

Hello all. Wondering what everyones preferences were for stress-testing their overclock/system stability? I have used both OCCT and Prime 95 while o/c'ing my 2600k, and seem to now have the system as stable as it is going to get. One thing I noticed, though, is that they both seem to pick out different instabilities. My Prime runs generally turned up 101 codes after blue-screening; several runs later and vcore tweaks made, I achieved 24-hour stability on Prime95. Subsequent to that, I ran OCCt, and it bluescreened after 30 seconds!! It flagged a 124 code, which I researched as QPI/VTT first, then vcore. A few runs later, and the OCCT test passed the one-h…

So I screwed up. I was trying to diagnose a problem I was having with my new SSD and in the process I physically damaged my PCI Express Slot. There's no fixing it. I built the system myself without difficulty but I've never had a situation like this happen before. Is it possible for me to just replace the MoBo and have everything magically work again? lol it's a long shot but... The MoBo is the ASUS P8Z68VPRO. There's another PCI Express slot that is available but due to the physical constraints in the box my vid card wont fit into it..I suppose I could possibly try putting everything into a new box and maybe just using the second slot...

Hi all, I am researching information about this module http://www.pcaviator.com/store/product.php?productid=17818&cat=642&page=1 I want to pair it up with a GF-P8 module to use is for Nav/Com radio, ADF and XPdr . I did a Google search but nothing came up. The doc at the Goflight site contains nothing specific. Could someone comment on whether this combination is workable? Also, this module: http://www.pcaviator.com/store/product.php?productid=17817&cat=642&page=1 from the description it does not seem to have a dual concentric rotary encoder whereas the GF-46 does. Any suggestion coming from users of these module are g…
