I upgraded my system with a i7-4770K CPU and Asus Maximus VI Formula MOBO on Dec 14th, and am finally getting to the final stages of resolving the last of the Event errors plaguing my system. When I re-installed Win8Pro64, I used the MOBO disk to load all the ancillary drivers and such, and happened to also load AI Suite III, which was a total mistake that I didn't remember that from my earlier days. I have run the Asus AISuite3 uninstaller, but can't seen to get one last crumb gone: the AMDA00 interface. With little to go on Google-wise, I see that it is related to AISuite3, and some comments simply advise to delete it. But it's the proverbial boomerang- it just install…

Old FS simmer, new user id, long story, easier this way. Have spent last few weeks reading to come up to speed on new build. Getting back into FS after two year “pause”. Rebuilding my FS computer for FSX and future P3D. I’m desiring to use my five year old HAF932 tower case. Looking to put a Corsair H80i water cooler in it to overclock an Intel 4770K on a Sabertooth X79. Corsair site says mount the H80i double 120mm fan on either top or bottom of case. I’m in South Florida, Airflow will be a big issue. Bottom mount appears undesirable as PSU harness and wires come right out across the fan mount area. HAF932 manual says I can replace top default fan with three 120…

  4. Curious if anyone out there has done a comparison on load times for a flight with FSX being installed entirely on an SSD and then again on a Hybrid Hard Drive.. the hybrids are pretty cheap and should perform somewhere in the middle I would think.. searching around I dont see much data on this, yet.. Thanks in advance..

Hey Pilots, This is not a flame thread, my option to upgrade from a 960t was only a 6300 and of course my budget. But I am awaiting my motherboard to be repaired under warranty . I shall try and put some FSX results once I have my mobo.

I'm working on another pc issue. This time it's a coworkers' and he tells me it won't boot into Windows. Well I can't get past this video card display... I can't boot to a CD because I can't get to the full POST screen.... and can't get into bIOS Any ideas? I've tried a new cmos battery (and waiting 10 min to reset fac default), cleaned the thing out, tried using the onboard display adapter - which seems borked, and none of that helped After this comes up the monitor seems to go blank... the fans go to idle and the PC is still powered up.

  8. Ok I am really confused. Can somebody PLEASE expalin to me the difference between these 2 drives: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W019M6559 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533&ignorebbr=1 For my life I could not list an advantage/disadvantage between the two. They seem to be exactly the same (Yes, I know one is not sold by Newegg but I'm talking about the actual drive). I'm wanting to get the fastest 1TB/1.5TB/2TB drive on the market. Any suggestions? Are those 2 above any good?

I've got an old secondary PC which is giving me problems. On power up the monitor is just blank. So I boot into safe mode (it works). I've run CHKDSK at the cmd prompt and inside if windows. It doesn't find any errors and windows runs normally. Last night I shut down the PC and this morning turned it on to find a blank screen again. Ideas? This PC has original HDD from around 2003.

I'm looking to buy a better CPU cooler than the stock intel one, becasue I want to overclock. I just bought a H100i from Corsair but have to return it becasue of some manufacturing issues. I am looking to OC to about 4,2-4,4 Ghz with my Intel I7 4770k CPU and Z87 Sabertooth. Note that I prefer prefilled liquid cooling apposed to custom liquid cooling or a full fan setup. I have room for any size radiator from 120mm-140mm-240mm-280mm. Thanks, John

I may be switching motherboard and CPU soon, as I need to set my son up with a PC. Therefore... As hyper threading has no advantage in FSX or most games, I generally turn it off, and achieve better overclocks at lower temp. So the questions... Does it really make sense to go for the 4770K, when HT won't be used? Does the extra 2mb cache of the 4770K really offer any appreciable benefit in FSX, or games for that matter? I would be interested in your opinions chaps.

Okay, I'm the one that frequently extols the virtues of the Noctua NH-D14. After checking out the reviews of the Thermalright Archon SB-E x2 I have to say I'm stunned by how well it performs. It's actually on a par with the D14. And surprisingly it's a single tower cooler. It seems that Thermalright have worked miracles with this cooler, I would imagine thanks to the multitude of heat pies. And best of all, no RAM clearance issues. So to all those individuals who have been subjected to my D14 favouritism, do consider the Thermalright Archon SB-E x2. I'm setting up my son with a PC, so looking for a new MB, CPU and RAM. So guess which cooler I'll be buying…

Ladies/Gents. After flicking through the forums, it doesn't look like there are any recent (within the past 3 months) discussions on new SSDs or best recommended one to get. About just under a year ago I settled on a Samsung 840 Pro and loved it very much. Now with my 3rd sim on its way to be installed, I would like to add another SSD to the mix. The 3rd sim is XPlane. So has anyone got any suggestions on best SSD to run that? 260G being minimum size, I would like at least that. Other than that, read/write speed is important as well as quality and reliability. If anyone can recommend something, I'd love to hear it. Thanks in advance. Brendan

  20. OK, so Santa was kidnapped and replaced by the Grim Mobo Reaper. I am going for a 4770K, and an Maximus Extreme to replace the current (2700k and p8z68 delux. gen3). I also have 16gb of ddr3 Patriot Viper ram, and an Asus 680 (?? overclocked something or the other). 21. Hello, As you can see from my specs, my system is pretty outdated. I plan to build a new Haswell system in the next few months, but for the time being, I still need to be able to fly. Over the last few months, most flights result in a BSOD or a freeze. I'm assuming that my overclock is finally starting to reduce the life of my CPU. I expected this and I am grateful that I got 4 years of good performance from this set up. I used Nick's guide for set up and overclock and after 4 years, I am still using the same FSX install and the same overclock settings. Now, I tried reducing the oc down to 3.8 and performance was terrible. Even now, FSX performs reasonably …

To my surprise my sons love it and we decided to build a semi serious FSX computer for 2014. I have a quite of bit of computers, most of them I built myself. Brand new PC, fresh installs of FSX, REX and lots of lovely scenery, with twenty or so flights inbetween to check scenery. Last night I decided I'd finished my installs and initiated a defrag. Finished it, shut down and went to bed. Today I found out the defrag did something horrible.... my monitor only displays a No Signal message, despite checking cables etc. F8 brought my to the Windows login page, ...and I found FSX still works. But F8 doesnt work anymore, none of the F buttons do. I've tried all sorts, holding the power button down before switching power on at the sovket, reseating the RAM, unplugging peripherals. The PC company suggest reinstalling Windows…
