Hi Guys, I recently bought some new components: -GTX770 -Intel i7 4770K -Asus maximus Vi Gene -Noctua NH D14 cooler My old components still in the system are: -RAM: 4 x 2GB DDR3 PC10666 CL7.0 Platin. LV -Samsung 1TB SATA300 32MB, HD103UJ -OCZ GameXstream 700W -Win 7 64bit I'm still not happy with the performance. Before I'm attempting to overclock the machine I try to get the max out of it. My goal is to play the game with 20-30fps with: -PMDG NGX/777 -additional hardcore scenery (like amsterdam X from Aerosoft) -REX4 HD textures -IVAO online software -All sliders maxed out (apart from light bloom(off) and traffic(about 50%)) Currently I'm getting around 11fps in thes…

Okay, somehow I am doing some major upgrading and after looking at the plethora of memory out there I see I need real help. I will be installing my i7-2600k into an new ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe next week and hope to install 16G of memory. My plan is to be able to OC to 5.0GHz. FrozenPC is building me a cooler that should handle the heat. I had ordered, and received, Corsair Dominator CMP16GX3M4X 1600C7 (damned expensive $244) but have found it is not really recommended for OC on an 1155 board (really for 1156 boards and may be unstable at higher clocks, according to Tom's Hardware site) I have a new EVGA GTX-780ti sc to put into it also. Can someone point me in …

Hello, i want to build a new system that can run X-Plane 10 at maximum settings with high FPS with complex add-ons such as B727, B757, B777, B737. Please share your hardware and FPS you get. Any tips are appreciated. Note: I can wait for 1 or 2 years from now if the current hardware cannot handle X-plane 10 at max settings. thanks !

Hi, I am looking at getting a new mouse (mostly since I lost the wireless receiver for the current one). For a while I have done just fine with a fairly ordinary mouse but this time I am considering something a big nicer. This has led me to wonder just how much better are these flashy gaming mice (e.g. the Logitech G700s), are they really worth the extra cost and can you recommend any in particular? Same sort of question for keyboards. On a not entirely unrelated note, can you recommend a good monitor for a few hundred pounds (say 300-400, but more if it's really worth it) (I know that's a bit vague, but I don't really know what costs what). And also a headset (th…

My search of the forum seems to indicate that it is standard practice not to defrag an SSD. However most of those posts are a year or more old. Is "not to defrag" still the current thinking?

As the title says, for some reason FSX just recently started using all 4 cores at 100%. I am getting literally like 2 fps. Just a week ago I was flying fine with the PMDG 737 NGX then all of the sudden S just hit the fan. I didn't change anything, and this happens even with min graphics. I am running intel i5 2500K 3.3 ghz turboed to 3.7. Cant overclock it because apparently I was stupid a year ago and bought the ASROCK H61. I also have the GTX 680 graphics card, this sounds like its way better than what I really need for FSX since its CPU based. I am running a 500W power supply, 8 GB of ram as well. It also is doing it with just flying a 172 on default settings. Do I nee…

Hey Everyone, I am another victim of Low FPS despite a Good computer. I have tried all the tweaks(From Kostas to JesesFsx)but with airports like ORBXs,PMDG and REX.. FPS goes below to 20 or so and the experience is ruined. So I decided to leave FSX for quite a while thinking no hardware can get it working smoothly & in the end money will be wasted but one of my friend got my interest when he reported his FPS with 4770k is fantastic.. So I got back to here to ask my sim experts.. Would replacing 2600k to 4770k Change things for me in FSX? This will be my final investment as I cant afford more . Do you guys recommend any changes? Except for Graphic card? …

Hi, I was asked by my former employer (an airline) to build a FSX pc on a 800 euro budget for educational purposes. Since I've always built my own fsx rigs (not on a budget though) this was an exciting assignment. They want a rig that can fly the PMDG 737NGX , but it doesn't have to do detailed scenery or airports, so this is all about the airplane. This is what I came up with : Mobo : Asus Z87-A lga1150 ATX € 117 CPU : Intel Core i5-4670K € 195 memory : G.Skill Ares F3-1600C8D-8GAB € 80 ssd : 2 x Samsung 840 EVO 120Gb € 158 video : MSI Geforce GTX660 2Gb € 149 case : Cooler Master N300 € 40 power suply : Seasonic S12II-Bronze 620W € 57…

Hi guys just wondered if someone could offer an explanation why this happens I have an oc i7 2700k running at 4.7 quite happily running fsx for hours with absolutely no problems,so I decided to see if I could get it up to 4.8 or 9 so I downloaded prime 95 real temp etc I then oc it to 4.9 ran the tests and it crashed almost straight away same thing happened at 4.8 so reset everything back to 4.7 and all runs fine again,However the strange thing is if I run prime 95 it runs for a couple of minutes then crashes the machine but in reality I can run fsx plus several other addons for hours with no bsod or any other problems I've checked the freq with aisuite and all cores sh…

Getting ready to switch MB's and got to thinking about Thermal Paste. I looked thru my stuff and see I have several different compounds and wondered if one of you OC'er's could steer me in the correct direction? I plan to OC to 4.8 or so, if that makes a difference and expect to see high temps of around the low 70c or so. I am hoping to be able to use one of he compounds I already have, as I would have to order something else online, no place around here to pick any decent stuff up. I have: Antec a 5 Silver Antec Reference Silver Antec Formula 7 Nano Diamond All are a few years old and appear to be okay. Thought I had some Noctua NT-H1 when I ordered …

Hey everybody. Please can some one help me out, I have got a new pc, and have been flying around and loving it. Until Youtube hit me home. I checked a few videos out and they where amazin!! And their specs where the same, and in some cases slightly worse than mine!!! My fsx runs well, but not at the level I thought it would. I have done a few .cfg tweeks and theyve helped but still not to what I expected fsx to run at. I get around 50+ fps at high altitude and anywhere around 15-35fps at low altitude. PMDG is a PAIN to even try! My HDD is anbout 100Gig short of full as I run a few other games on my pc aswel, and eddit my photos on here aswe. My fsx slides ar…

Well- FSX is currently installing so I thought I'd take a few minutes and share my new build with the forum while I hurry up and wait. The below was documented throughout the build, so forgive any strange 'tenses', and as for the shoddy photography... well, it doesn't help any but I did try :-) A few weeks ago (after I unexpectedly found out I was getting an actual tax return this year), I decided to take the plunge and build a new PC. I've been running on my trusty Phenom II x4 build since 2008ish and have been waiting for the day to finally make the switch to Intel. Case and such: Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 Black Cube Case NZXT HUE RGB Led Controller (I tell m…

I plan to stick my new EVGA GTX-780ti sc into my current machine replacing my EVGA GTX-680sc. While looking at the card info I see that it is PCIe 3.0 capable. My current MB is a ASUS P8P67 Deluxe which is only PCIe 2.0. I also have new Corsair memory to install: MEM 4Gx4|CORSAIR CMP16GX3M4X1600C7 Should I think about upgrading the MB to a newer one? Recommendations. If I do, should I upgrade the CPU too? Recommendations. Will I see much benefit in FSX? My current rig is a i7-2600k at 4.63GZ with a Noctua DH-d14. My system runs okay but is getting a little long in the tooth; 2+ years. I want to stick with Intel and ASUS.

Hi all looking for a bit of advice on this, sorry if this spans two forums but think this might be the better of the two I have some money to spare and was wondering if I should save it towards a complete new system or upgrade some of what I have already I'm quite happy how fsx runs although I'm always looking for those couple of extra fps I currently have an oc 2700k running at 4.7ghz I have a gtx580 card and 8gb of ram.So I was thinking about upgrading my graphic card to a gtx 780ti and putting another 8gb of ram in I know that the ram will make no difference to fsx due to the 32bit 4gb limits but as I have some other programs that are running whilst fsx is on I t…

I have a Dell XPS one 27(16GB,3.1GHZ i7 with 2adaptors(Intel HD 4660 and Nvidea GT750M.) My fsx.config lists the Nvidea card but in the game under settings(custom) it lists only the Intel adaptor. My problem is that the scenery has many polygon erratic areas after takeoff.. Am I using the nvidea adaptor or the Intel? I made some suggested changes in the fsx.config with very little improvement. Please help

I ask this because I would like to run more "eye candy" than I can currently. I have my system tuned at the moment to where I get really good performance but I am just shy of OOM error's. I would like to go further and realize my system has limitations. So, the question is: If I OC further or get another, faster, CPU; will that lower my VAS needs, because the system is getting things done faster and doesn't need to put so much into VAS? I hope this makes sense and is not one of those "dumb questions". I do that from time to time. I have O.L.D.. Thanks Rick S.

I'm doing a bunch of research on this overclocking art form and I ran into this ... apparently it comes from the ASUS OC Gods to their OC munchkins. In the UEFI: 1. Set your RAM speed ... (DDR3 2400) 2. Set your RAM voltage ... (1.65V) 3. Manually set Vcore to 1.2 4. Set the multiplier on all cores to 46x 5. Every other setting at their defaults If the system boots past the UEFI and either begins to load or ideally, makes it into the OS and is stable, you have a 50th percentile or greater chip on the Haswell overclocking-ability bell curve. If it won't at least boot there and make it into the UEFI, you probably have less than a 50th percentile chip. Yo…

My current rig is about 5 years old now. With the advances in hardware, a bit more money than I used to have and relative stagnation of FSX (i.e., no new versions needing more powerful hardware), I am thinking of upgrading my system. My goal with this build is to finally achieve a system that runs FSX >18-20 fps in virtually any situation with sliders almost or entirely to the right (I know it's finicky, may need to tone that down a little). I currently run an i7-920 at 3.8 GHz (first generation i7 Sandy Bridge) and a GTX 285 graphics card. I know the graphics card is particularly outdated. I'm going to deal with that later. My first order of business is to fi…

Hello, thank-you for taking the time to read this. I have a Gigabyte Z87X-UD5H motherboard and the i7. I've spent a considerable amount of time exploring the net, trying to understand how to overclock my i7; I'm confused and have been unsuccessful thus far. There is an auto-clock feature in the Bios and I've set it to 4.3. I have a H80i Corsair liquid CPU cooler. I would really be greatful, if someone could please tell me what values to plug in. The default values under Home/Performance in the Bios... Host Clock Value 100.00MHz CPU Base Clock Auto Processor Base Clo…

Hi all, I just completed my FSX PC build. I'm really excited about it! I've got all my applications including FSX and my few add-ons loaded up. The last step I have is to overclock the CPU - from everything I've read and seen on YouTube, the higher the CPU speed, the better results you will get from the simulator. I'm completely new to overclocking - this will be my first attempt at it and, to be honest, I'm a bit unsure of where to start. I've been reading as much as I can online, but I was hoping to get some advice and suggestions from this community. Are there certain things I should be doing, be careful, or be on the lookout for? From what I understand, temper…
