My FSX machine finally died so looking to upgrade it. I have read a lot of processor reviews and 4770K seems to be the best choice available but my question is for hard drives how much improved performance using a SSD vs regular HD. My main concern is performance vice price so your inputs are appreciated.

Hello guys! I've been said my FSX rig is being hold up by my CPU and I'd like to learn how to safely overclock it. I've never OC'd anything before, but I understand the biggest issue of overclocking is keeping temperature under control so that the CPU doesn't fry. My current system: MOBO: Asus P7H55/USB3 BIOS: American Megatrends 1606 CPU: Intel i7 860 2.80 GHz (not overclocked) GPU: Asus Nvidia GTX 770 (brand new, I've installed it yesterday, before I had a Sapphire ATI HD 5850) RAM: 12 GB DDR3 Kingston 1333 MHz (split up in 8+2+2) Drives: OS (W7.1 64bit) installed on a Samsung EVO 120GB SSD. FSX and all FS-related installed on a 1TB partition of a Western D…

Hi guys, I know this topic has been discussed before but I can't quite find the answer I am looking for. People say Haswell processors work better than Ivy Bridge, but is it right when it comes to FSX or is it the other way around? The reason I am asking because an i7 4770K and i7 4820 costs same amount but the second one can be overcooked to 5.0 GHz and above where as the Haswell chip can only be over clocked to 4.3 Ghz I suppose. I am looking for high resolution with high frame rate so which processor I should go for? Many thanks, Ronnie

Hi, I am thinking about replacing my power supply, case, RAM, motherboard and CPU. I have a Dell XPS 8100 and would like to use the graphics card GTX260, hard drive and DVD player with my new upgrades. My question is do I need to reformat my hard drive before I do this or just move my old hard drive into my new case plug it and turn on my machine. Download the latest drivers and way to go or is there much more to it than that. I am running windows 7 and would like to have all the stuff on my new computer that I have on my old one. any opinions? Thanks

My current system specs are as followed: OS: Windows 8.1 CPU AMD Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.40GHz MEMORY 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 TI SSC I'm under an ongoing upgrade and I'm replacing the CPU next and the GPU following that. I am thinking of getting the new i7 4770K along with the h100 cooler from Corsair (planning to do some slight OCing). Will I notice much of a performance increase in FSX/P3D and X-Plane with swapping these processors alone?

Hello everyone, Background Two years ago I undertook to build myself a new FSX rig which has worked exceptionally well up until recently. Issue I've started getting errors such as MEMORY MANAGEMENT, BAD POOL HEADER, and USER PROFILE SERVICE HAS STOPPED WORKING to name those that I've taken note of and this occurs even when the computer is idle. Once restarted, Windows reports that 'Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown'. Corrective actions taken to attempt to resolve the issue 1. Cleaned the registry using a freeware utility (Glarysoft Registry Repair); 2. Used the sfc /scannow command to attempt to replace/repair corrupted system files…

I'm trying to put together a middle of the road system for a coworker. He wants to use FSX with his son. He's totally happy with stock airplanes too... this guy is NOT a gamer - but he is a pilot and controller like me and he's used to FS2004/X. I tried my best to put together a decent system but lower cost than mine... I'm having a bit of an issue keeping it below 1000 bucks. He also wants to burn DVD's. But we discussed using a 2TB HDD for keeping backups of his movies on there so he can watch on TV too. I'm not sure what storage route we'll go but at the moment I only have a 240 gb SSD. It will run Win7 and FSX - and that's about it. Should be plenty A…

PLease excuse me if this has been discussed before: I was just reading about the differences between the SLC and the MLC versions of the SSD drives and was just curious if anyone is running FSX on the much faster SLC drive?. I read that the the SLC uses a single cell to store data and in which case is able to access data much faster. The MLC uses multi level cells and looks at all the cells in order to access information, making it a bit slower than SLC's. Comparative differences are SLC are 10x faster; 3x faster sequential write and 30% more expensive than MLC. Either way, Im curious to know of any improved performances in FSX with this drive type or with any other h…

I seem to have problems with my 4x4GB set of memory when going above 4.7GHz. (2 4GB pairs of Corsair CMX8GX3M2A2000C9 9-10-9-27). They run for hours on Prime 95 and OCCT at 4.8GHz but FSX wants to lock up within an hour or so. Does not do it at lower clock speeds and I suspect it is memory related. I want to install 2 8GB Dimms into my Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe system and wondered if I could get a recommendation? I suspect I should use something in the Asus Qualified Vendor List and likely in the DDR3 1600MHz range, but am open to suggestions. Thanks Ricks

Folks, Just completed a new build for FSX and "upgraded" to the i4770K chip running on a Asus Maximus VI Hero mobo. Despite my best efforts, I can't seem to get a stable overclock passed 4.3gHz. Should I live with this, or roll the dice on a new processor and sell this one? So far, I'm not too impressed with Haswell. I needed 1.35v to get a stable overclock at 4.3, running memory at 2400mHz. Temps on the CPU are around 33c at idle, and as high as 73c at 100% using the Asus benchmark software.... I did delid the proc as well.... Will I be sacrificing anything performance wise in FSX with this chip/overclock? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi everyone this is my third rig am building an since i couldn't find any videos on youtube of any simmers that uses this CPU for fsx i want to know how good this CPU is for fsx? The CPU is AMD FX-8350 Piledriver (Vishera) 4.0GHz (Eight Core) 32nm, AM3+ 8MB Cache I notice from default it comes with 4.0 Ghz that mean less need in overclocking . Anyone have a clue how well this will work for FSX.? By the way here is this new rig spec's MOBO- ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+, AMD 970, Cross Fire, SATA3, USB 3.0, HD Audio CPU FAN - Corsair H80 Cooling Hydro, extra quiet Liquid Cooling System GPU - GeForce GTX 680 4GB PCI EXpress 16X dual head, HDMI Ram Mem…

I have recently purchased a 500GB SSD (for Windows and all NON FSX related applications, games and files) in addition to a 250GB SSD dedicated purely for FSX and all associated programs and files. Now I'm having a crisis and wondering if I've got this the wrong way round. At present my total FSX install is 172GB and this constitutes: - FSX - NGX and Aerosoft A320 with a considerable library of liveries - Ultimate Traffic 2 and 12GB of addon liveries and models - FSGlobal 2010 Mesh - ORBX Global, Australia and EUR regions, in addition to - 60+ payware airports - Ultimate Terrain X Europe And various other bits and pieces. (I also use REX which takes u…

Hello Everyone, I am relatively new here (I heard the Avsim forums are the best place to go for tech advice ). I apologize if this is a redundant post; I know you guys must grow tired of answering the same questions over and over, but here's my dilemma: I am currently shopping for a new laptop and am a bit short on cash at the moment. I'm looking in the $550'ish range and am completely baffled on what to get (I don't know anything about computers, so please understand). I already know I will not be able to purchase a system with performance comparable to everyone else's, but I just really want to get the most "bang for my buck." It has to be a laptop because …

I've been away from flight sim for too long (probably 2008) because of uni and a lack of funds and time. Wanting to get back into it but requires me building a new PC. I used to build PCs a long time ago but for the past few years I have only used a MacBook Pro. Looking to build a PC I can use for FSX and as a HTPC in my lounge. Really no idea where to even start (websites for components or what parts I should use) so happy to listen to any advice. I wouldn't really want to spend more than £500 on hardware (let me know if this is feasible) and then save a bit of cash to buy some scenery and a few planes (been missing the PMDG 737!). Hoping to hook it up to a 32" Samsu…
