I am currently running FSX and everything associated with it on my ( C ) Drive. It has 525 GB free of 910 GB. I also have an external backup ( J ) Drive ( WD " My Book " ) 1.30 TB free of 1.36 TB . As you can see , I have a ton of free space on my backup drive. If you were in my shoes , would you (1) leave it the way it is. (2) Download FSX and everything associated with it on the back up drive and use it like that. (3) download FSX and everything associated with it , just to have on stand by, just in case I have to do a full sytem recovery , so I don't have any down time. I have Windows 8.1 and have had problems in the past , just a thought. It just seems like a waste t…

  4. I've been wanting to fly in FSX for the longest time. I have flown in FSX from time to time but I haven't really done a complete flight due to low FPS. Over the years I have bought better running PCs. The one I have right now is a Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit with a quad core processor running a 2.83Ghz. 8G RAM, 232G hard drive, Intel® Q45/Q43 Express Chipset display adaptor. I've been playing around with the target FPS in FSX. I set it at 25 FPS but I get a lot of frame rate hits and it lags. I set it at 33 FPS at one time and I was getting 33FPS but again I was getting frame rate hits and lagging. I set the sliders in FSX where you adjust the aircraft and realism set…

Hi guys, I just customized a new rig specifically for FSX and wanted to know what you guys think of it and the performance that I will get out of the machine. Case: Pharaoh EVO Super Tower Gaming Case CPU: Intel i7 4930k (I will most likely overclock) CPU Fan: Corsair Hydro Series H60 High Performance Liquid Cooling System CD: 2 CD drives, 1 regular and 1 blu-ray HDD: 2 TB 7200RPM (I would've gotten an SSD, but I really needed a 2 TB HDD or larger, and couldn't afford an SSD of the same capacity for 6x the price) Memory: 16GB DDR3/1600 MHz Quad Channel Memory (Corsair) Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth X79 OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (I opted out on Windows 8 consider…

I had a 3770k overclocked to 4.4 ghz and my grafic card is gtx 680 2gb. The temps of my cores were 40-50 degrees. Today I built in a 780 asus with 3gb mem. same core temps were now 80 degrees. Is there a logical explanation for? k.r

  7. It's time for me to replace my desktop home computer. My biggest concern is I also use it for FSX, so I know it's going to cost me. My employer has a plan in which help to cover some of the costs of a new computer. The catches are I need to buy a pre-bult machine (can't build my own) and it needs to be local as opposed to over the Internet. For example I'm in canada so I can't buy one of those Hell Fire gaming rigs out of the USA. I am posting a link to the local Staples store and it compares 3 gaming units that I am considering. I am so out of touch with what is current/good/bad I am lost. Also I am not good with computers so I don't want to be making mods or tweaki…

Details here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131817&RandomID=205816623421913620140429100426 Reviews are hit and miss and it's hard to tell if those having issues just don't know what they are doing or if they have valid issues (i.e. when updating BIOS do they follow correct procedures and loads defaults before rebooting). So would like to gather some info from anyone that has used this motherboard, the good, the bad, the ugly. Note: this isn't primarily for Flight Simulation, it's also for my development software (Visual Studio, Adobe Suite, Cinema4D, etc.). Cheers, Rob.

  11. Hello guys, so the time has come and I need a new computer. I kind of know what's good and what's not, but not if the parts will work well together. I don't know if I will overclock, it really depends how fsx is running and what you guys can recommend. Also I have no idea of motherboards, what ram or cooler to take. What I know, is that my budget is at around ~1000€. And the parts I would like to have in it are : I7-4770k Nvidia GTX 770 1 TB harddrive for other stuff and a 250gb ssd for fsx Even those parts can be changed if you advise me to, I'm kind of a noob when it comes to pc parts right now. Thanks for you help, I appreciate it!! Greets from Germany!

BIOS/UEFI updates always make me a little nervous, especially this one. I hadn't kept up on BIOS updates for Asus Rampage IV Gene, was running old v1305 -- it was working great, good overclock stability so I really didn't have a need. So enters my "need" ... some of the projects I'm working might need Win 8.1. Now I'm not really a fan of Windows 8.1 ... certainly not from a desktop end user experience, it's very awkward and hides too much (I like to feel I have some control). But, Win 8.1 does have some threading improvements and overall performance improvements which make it slightly more efficient (especially with HT enabled or more recent processors). So I need…

Hello My sound system right now consists of a sound blaster z sound card which I have a set of 2.0 creative t40ii speakers hooked up to and a headset that I use for other games and I am using a xfi usb sound card that I have another headset hooked up to that I use for voice and atc with voxatc. I have a 5.1 home cinema setup minus the amp so my following questions are: 1: Does FSX/P3D support 5.1. 2: Can I get engine noise coming out the rear speakers and cockpit noise coming from the front (which is how I want it). I don't want to buy a amp and find out it was a waste of time. Thanks.

Prepar3d assuming they offload more to GPU as it matures and x-plane as it can use more of the GPU. Whilst I don't yet own Prepar3d, I'll be keeping an eye on it seeing what tubneliners get released for it. Air cooler of that nature as I'll maybe run stock initially then overclock. Main …

In the product description for the Samsung 840 Evo series I read that they are up to three times faster than the old 840 series. Since I have only Samsung 840 on my current system I wonder if getting a Evo would significantly increase speed compared to what I have now? Anybody here who have used both the old 840 and the new 840 Evo?

We all hear that FSX is CPU bound. Mostly. But, I got a new computer set up with my sim this last week. (i7 4770K GTX 770. Still not overclocking anything.) My framerates were 40s+ after I got everything installed and moved my sliders but then I had jaggies and shimmering. Using 8xSGSS and some other tuning in nVidea Inspector, I was able to virtually eliminate jaggies and shimmering...lines are pretty crisp, scenery is clear and, more importantly, distant lights look perfect. The cost of 8xSGSS, however, is that, in my most taxing test case, my frames had dropped to 20 (at Orbx PNW KSEA with the Flight1 Mustang or RealAir Turbine Duke). Now, granted, I can fly at…

Up until now I had pre-build computers for flightsimming, but my experiences with what the stores advised never really satisfied me, so this time I decided to build my own. I do know a little about computer hardware, but I'm certainly no expert and I would most appreciate it if someone could have a look at what I came up with and check if this would be a proper system for flightsimming. I'm using P3D v1.4, but I'm soon going to upgrade to v2. I understand there are plenty of better option than what I choose here that cost a lot more, but I'm not a rich man, so I had to stick to a budget, so if you advise on other components, please don't deviate too much from the giv…
