Right now Im running a lynnfield i5 750 1156 quad clocked at 3.9ghz with an nvidia 560ti. The addons I use are asn, pmdg ngx, rex, and some orbx na with the latest cfg tweaks. FSX runs smooth as butter most of the time but flying into high detail addon airports in large cities causes to fps to drop into the 20's. Do you think I will see much of a performance boost by upgrading to a 680 and a newer socket 1150 cpu or is it not worth the money and time investment right now.

I currently running FSX on an i5 2500k OC to 4.4 ghz and it is seriously struggling with any FSDreamteam scenery and CS or QW jetliners. I'm looking into upgrading CPU, motherboard and graphics card. I am considering the following. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/P9qpzy Although I'm not 100% on the GTX 780 6gb. I don't run P3D at the moment but eventually will. I'm hoping I can used some of the components of my actual main build, like the Seasonic SS-750KM3 PSU, a Fractal Case, a Samsung 830 256gb SSD, Plextor 256 SSD, 27" 2560x1440 Monitor, 1TB WD Caviar black and add some fast memory. Any suggestions or observations that you guys want to share I'll greatly appr…

Last week I bought a new PC and I've been busy overclocking the CPU (also posted elsewhere about this). The CPU is an i7 4790K. I have it running at 4.5 GHz on 1.2 V now with HT off (because HT makes things a lot hotter). Just now I wondered if this OC is of any real use for me because by default the CPU boost clock is 4.4! That's only 0.1 less than my OC! And with my OC that CPU runs at 4.5 all the time while without an OC it only runs faster when needed which maybe is better for the CPU. My old CPU had a default speed of 3.3 so OC'ing that one to 4.5 was a no brainer. But I wonder if OC'ing this CPU is of any use (unless I can get it to 5 GHz, which I can't). Maybe…

  4. Hello, I know there are people out there who have a better knowledge of building PCs and which components are most suitable, and so therefore I ask on advice and tips and recognition that this set-up is alright. I would like to be able to have FSX running in the background (cruising) and play other games such as CS GO and Minecraft at the same time. I plan on getting the following set-up as seen below. Intel Core i7-4790K 4x4.00GHz (Turbo 4.40GHz) Asus Z97-A Motherboard Vision G-Series V2 Gaming Case Kingston 8GB DDR3-1866 HyperX FURY Asus GeForce GTX760 2GB OC (with DirectCU II cooler) Raidmax 635W Power Supply Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD 1TB Sea…

Hi all, Im getting reasonably smooth 20fps fsx with rex texture, asn, orbx, uk 2000 airports. Drops to 18 ish when at low altitude in the pmdg 777. I have a gtx780 and have tweaked by cfg, running a fibre frame fraction of 0.1. The fx9370 is at 4.9ghz. is it going to bee worth the £360 changing to a new i7 chip? Thanks Ollie

  7. There are many posts on these and other forums discussing AffinityMask. Been thrashed to death, almost. Until now I have taken note of them but never incorporated them into my FSX.cfg, mainly because there are way too many opinions on what is right and whether it makes for a better experience or a worse experience in the sim. "If in doubt, pull out" is what I say :-) pretty sure many opinions are placebo. A recent in-flight 8 minute freezing problem seems to have been fixed by using the AffinityMask setting however, after it was suggested in another forum here on Avsim. Still early days but no freezes since going with a setting of 252. Hyper Threading on or off? W…

Hello guys! I would like to use FSX with the maximum hardware available power, in order to obtain the maximum fps with a fluent game experience. I googled a bit, even browsing the Microsoft site, but the only information I could obtain was that FSX (if properly updated) can take advantage of a double-core processor. Do you have any more detailed information about how FSX uses the computer hardware? In particular, which components are the most important? Does CPU performance affect FSX more than the graphic card or viceversa? Should I choose a CPU with high single-core performances or a CPU with a high number of cores? Thank you!

I recently completed an upgrade from my old i5 3470 to the new Devils Canyon i7 4790k. I am not overclocking, it is stock speed. Performance is impressive, I am seeing textures load that I had not seen before using exactly the same slider settings as my old 3470. However....one thing that is concerning me is how hot this thing gets! I flew into Orbx YMML and the CPU hit 80C!! Whilst P3D or FSX are running, it stays at 70C to 75C and every now and then goes to 80C. If I minimmise the simulator and go to Windows desktop, the CPU drops in themp amazingly fast down to 30C. The moment I get back into the sim, temps jump back up again. Has anybody else found this? …

  11. Folks, I have the following system running FSX: Intel i7 4770K overclocked to 4.2GHz (That's the absolute limit on my chip, and have not been able to get a higher overclock) Asus Maximus VI Hero eVGA GTX 780 G.Skill Trident X 8GB Custom Liquid Cooling Loop My motherboard will support an i7 4790K, and I'm wondering if there is an appreciable difference between say 4.2GHz and 4.6GHz provided I could get the 4790K to overclock to that speed. Is it worth the 300 bucks to upgrade? I'm grateful for any advice!

I've tried the one an AM calculator suggests (http://www.gatwick-fsg.org.uk/affinitymask.aspx?SubMenuItem=hardware) which turned out the be 1364 and it wasn't a good thing at all--massive blurries and if I recall correctly only 2 core/threads showed activity in performance monitor. Anyone have an empirically-based, not theoretical only, recommendation of the optimal AM for hexacore w/ HT enabled? Thanks in advance ;o)

  15. I have an almost 3 year old system with a 6 core i7 3930K (SB-E) overclocked to 4.6 GHz on liquid, 8 GB of RAM and an EVGA GTX580. Was wondering if there would be any benefit at all to upgrading to a new Devil's Canyon Haswell chip. Obviously it would be a reduction of cores from 6 down to 4, but are there other benefits that would make it an upgrade and worthwhile? Was also thinking about a GPU upgrade to a GTX780 but didn't think the SB-E would match up well enough. Thoughts? I mostly use FSX but am considering also taking the plunge to P3D, and I know that the GPU is used to a greater degree in P3D.

I have a very weird issue with my microphone. What happens is that when starting FS2Crew at the very same moment I click the clickspot to start FS2Crew the volume of my microphone drops down to 18%, I normally have it set at 75%. I have tried several different settings like unchecking the option in Windows 7 to allow applications to take exclusive control of the device, making sure 'Do nothing' is checked on the Communication Tab under Sound settings, unchecking all effects for the microphone on the Effects tab etc etc but all to no avail. After doing some Google searching I've learned that I'm far from alone having issues in Windows 7 with the microphone volu…

As my PC (a 5 year old ATI/AMD system) is slowly giving up, I am looking to buy a new one. Important consideration is that I will not be overclocking the CPU nor the GPU, mainly because the temperature in the room can rise very quickly all year round (big windows on the south will do that, and moving the pc is no option). So far I came up with this: CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-4770 Cooler: Scythe Mugen 4 PCGH Memory: Crucial 8 GB DDR3-1600 Kit CL9 MB: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming GPU: MSI N780 TF 3GD5/OC power supply: Corsair AX760i Case: Cooler Master CM 690 III DVD-drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE SSD: 2x Crucial M500 Serie CT240M500SSD1, 240 GB (1 for Windows, 1 for FSX) H…

Hi, I am looking for some advice on my first FSX PC build. I am under a strict budget of £600. Here are my main specs: CPU: Intel i3 4340 @3.6Ghz GPU: Nvidia GTX 750 1GB RAM: 8GB I'm planning on running FSX with ASN and PMDG 777 at 30fps. I do not plan on using any payware scenery but may use some freeware HD textures for clouds/sky etc. I understand that FSX is quite CPU intensive and it doesn't seem to take advantage of extra cores, so is there any significant benefit of upgrading to an i5 if i don't plan on overclocking? Also, is my graphics card sufficient for my demands and should i consider upgrading to the 750Ti or equivalent cards? Any advice a…

  25. Hi all, As my cockpit is almost ready I am thinking about upgrading my server ( outside view pc ). See my pc specs for my current config. I can buy a second hand 3930 or 4790 for around 240 euro, a second hand 4930 for 400 euro and a second hand 4960 for 580. I currently have very good 8 Gb 2133 G.Skill Ripjaws ( 2x 4 gb ) with custom G.Skill memory fan module. With a 2011 socket I need to buy new memory as exactly the same is not made anymore ( the 2200 mhz version is ). With a 1150 socket I can re-use the memory. What would you advice and why ?
