Hi, I'm upgrading my setup from an MSI P55-GD65 mobo with an i7-870 CPU (OC at 4,0 Ghz) to an Asus Sabertooth X79 mobo with socket 2011. Which CPU would you advise (4820k or 4930k) ?? Would this make lots of difference ? I get around 30FPS, but when i use multi monitor and Rex Overdrive, i have seriuous FPS drop ... Cheers, Marc.

On various Haswell based processors I understand it is possible to individual clock cores with specific ratios, so it is possible, stability allowing, to overclock one core higher the rest. It occurred to me that's a good combination with FSX affinity mask, i.e. configure your main FSX thread that typically runs at 100% on your highest overclocked core. This perhaps would be core #0, or core #1 with affinity mask. And to get the absolute best for the main thread, maybe even reduce the overclock on the other cores a little to push the main thread overclock even further. So a couple of big assumptions here: a) That the main simulator thread always runs on the same c…

A lot of people seem to be recommending the 4GB version above the 2GB particularly for muti display setups. However since the GTX770s memory bandwidth is 256bit (compared to GTX780s 3GB 384bit VRAM). I'm planning: i7-3770 (OC ~ 4GHz) GTX770 8GB DDR3 Mainly for X-Plane and some FSX. Q1) Am I going to be able to make good use of double the VRAM fon the 4GB card for the same memory bandwidth? Q2) Do I really need 4GB VRAM in the X-Plane server machine when I can network more PC's for additional views?

I have two LARGE hard drives on my computer - one with ONLY FSX program. Works GREAT ! My question is - if I install a program to "Ghost" my other drive with all other programs on my FSX drive, will it adversely affect my FSX operation ??? Thanks to all you computer gurus. Dave

Im probably one of the few people who are really attached to FS9. I have this for so many years and in that time if have collected a widespread of add-ons. I will stick to it until my last breath. I have a system that is 5 years old. I copied the specs in here: INTEL CORE 2 QUAD CORE PROCESSOR Q8200 (2.33GHZ, 1333MHZ, 8MB CACHE) 512MB ATI RADEON 4850 GRAPHICS CARD 2 years ago I installed a SSD card to speed up some things. In FS9 I get frame rates aroud 40-50 fps and at very busy areas like JFK, ORD, LAX and ATL they drop dramatically to 10-15 fps. What do you guys think? Is this acceptable or can the performances get any better with a fas…

Hi Everyone, Since my main PC crashed a while back, I've been running FSX on a secondary PC. I have only been able to fly with the basics since FPS is not that great with clouds, detailed airports and full AI etc. With that said, it's time to build a system that will not only run FSX to it's full potential but I can also use it with other applications\games\media as well. I have been doing my research for a while now and finally came up with the follow system specs: Corsair Carbide Series 500R Arctic White Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Gaming Case CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 Power Supply G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16G…

Hi I'd appreciate any ideas on what might be the fault with my GTX285 and if there is anything I can do. Please "don't get your card wet is not going to be helpful LOL!). It's a long story! But my gaming PC ended up getting pelted by rain when the wind blew a window wide open. Drops of water dripped onto the circuit board of my GTX 285 inside the PC. The PC was on when is git wet, when I discovered it it had shut down. The PC appears to be working OK with another graphics card. The part of the circuit board that got wet is right above the two 6-pin power receptacles (at the end of the card). Consider the orientation of the graphics card when installed with the back ci…

I just bought a new 240GB SATA 3.0 SSD + Win 8.1 Pro and am planning to boot 8.1 on it, while keeping my Win 7 HDD bootable. I've seen all sorts of tutorials on the installation of the SSD, but they never mention what happens to the old HDD. So here's my question - is it possible to dual boot Win 8.1 from the SSD and Win 7 from the HDD on the same PC via the boot menu or do I need to buy a brand new computer for Windows 8.1 and refund the SSD?

Hey guys, So I'm reading up on the GTX980 and checking reviews and benchmarks. Clearly in the benches for the modern games the 980 pushes way ahead of the older 670. I have an EVGA GTX670 with 4gb of ram. I'm wonder how much of a difference I would see in FSX if I upgraded to a GTX980. Anyone with with real world experience doing this? My Mobo is an Asus P8P67 Pro, CPU is an I7 2700k @ 4.8ghz, and my ram is 8gb of Corsair Vengence 9-9-9-25. I don't have much interest in P3Dv2 at this point, though that will probably change in the future. Thanks for your input, Chris Strobel Irvine, CA www.flightdeck1.com

Hi there I thought I would come to you guys for some suggestions on this as you are the experts I have been asking around on some of the benchmarking / review sites if they would be willing to include flight sims in their benchmarks, as opposed to the usual suspects and 'normal' games. Obviously getting a great frame rate in BF4 takes a different set of technical chops than getting a smooth final in P3D with that beautiful airport addon you just bought, but very few if any sites ever focus on it. I got a reply back from these guys: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9Tn-atYOt8qZP-oqui7bhw And they asked what would be a recommended stress test when it com…

Hi Guys, I recently moved to Oman from the UK to work and I already miss my Sim! I'm pricing up a new system but need some advice on CPU's. My old system had an i7 2700K in it. I'm a bit out of touch with the new Intel stuff. Can someone point me in the right direction please? I basically looking for the best CPU available that isn't an Extreme version. Looking on the websites is confusing me as some of the 4000 series i7 cpu's are more expensive that the 5000 series. I assumed that the 5000 cpu's are newer and faster but apparently not? Thanks in advance... Chris

This board was released back in 2012 but I recently came to think of it. I was thinking of Z9PE-D8 WS it can handle DUAL intel xeon CPUS and it seems every cpu have a dual lane mem config. We all know FSX wants a main core and as fast as possible, so I was thinking of asking if anybody have tested this, maybe it will take advantage of both main cores, since they are to different cpus? Have like dual xeon @ 3.7Ghz OV to 4.7Ghz

Hi all I have esstablished a budget of around $7-800, and want to upgrade some hardware. Here's my current specs: i7 2660 @ 3.4gHz (non "K" so I can't OC it) Gigabyte H77- D3H- also not OC friendly due to the H77 chipset.. Ge Force GT420 1Gb ram 8Gb DDR3 1333 RAM I think I know this much: I need a "K" series CPU and a mobo capable of OC (Z77 set seems good bang for the buck?) I know the GT420 is low end, but seems capable enough given the CPU dependence of FSX? Finally, if I get a new CPU and Mobo, do I need to ditch the RAM I have? Is it a noticable bottleneck? I'm reluctant to, because I only added the extra 4Gb a short while back. …

Hi Now the Haswell-E's have been out a while, has anyone got performance data on OCd 5820k / 5930k setups? Would be good to know FPS, CPU GHz and memory speeds There's a LOT of opinion out there but it would be good to get some solid numbers, for any / all the main sims (though preference would be for xplane). Any Haswell-E'ers able / willing to stump up some figures?

I would like to upgrade my GPU from a GTX580 to 780 Ti. On checking I have found that the width of the card is greater than the current one and the only wat to fit a 780 is to move a SSD card to a different slot. The problem is that having moved it, Windows no longer recognises it and the drive is gone. Moving it back the drive is also back. My motherboard is Asus Maximus iv extreme, there are two OCD RevoDrive3 SSD's 240GB. One has the O/S W7 Home Premium - the other FSX. Both drives currently are in PCIe 2.0 x 16 slots. In order to make room for a new GPU, the one and only remaining slot is a PCIe 2.0 x 8 slot. According to OCZ the SSD remains compatible at x 8. Al…

Hey guys, I consider myself pretty knowledgeable with FSX (Tweaks, Hardware, software etc.) I have been noticing lower frames then normal however. I am not a frame rate counter, I notice its not as smooth and I don't like it, it doesn't feel fluid like it used to. My system is: i7 2700K Water cooled OC'd to 4.8Ghz ASUS P8Z77-V Pro 8Gb DDR 1600mhz 9-9-9 24 EVGA 700 series GTX 4GB card 64gb SSD cache drive Win 7 64 bit I have FSX Accelerated, I know all about high mem fix, BP=0, UIAutomationcore, etc I have applied all the necessary tweaks. After installing ORBX global from Meagascenery socal V2 and ASN SP1 I observed fps in the teens w…

Hello All; Could any of you please help me with some questions that I have: I have just purchased the above stated SSD drive for FSX only. As I am currently waiting for it in the mail, I have a few thoughts that I'm a little unclear off: 1. I'm planning on only having the FSX folder and its contents in the new drive, all others, including my OS system will still remain on the "C" drive. Will FSX work correctly while on a separate drive? 2. Is there a migration tool that I can use to transfer the FSX folder over? Or is it better to uninstall/reinstall everything over again? Thank you all for your help and support, it is very much appreciated. Kind Regards,
