So my Sandybridge Socket1155/Z68 that I built in 09 is having some issues but I'm thinking it's getting time to rebuild anyway, so just now getting back into looking at options. I see a lot of buzz on Socket1150/Z97 vs Socket2011-3/X99 from last year and now that maybe the dust has settled a bit is there more of a clear answer? Looking for something for another 5 years or so. Don't need to spend big bucks for bragging rights as long as I can get as good or better as my 4.5 i7-2600k DDR3 PC-3 12800 7/8/7/24/1T RAMs I'm happy. For the first time, I am planning on installing my Flight Sims on a secondary drive. I plan to install FS9, FSX, P3D and XPX. The computer has a fresh install of Win 7 with all of the updates. Is there anything I need to do differently? And SSDs recommended? Is there a size that I should be looking for? Besides base installs, XPX is mostly my "project sim" at this point so almost no 3rd party content besides HD Mesh. FS will have FTX Global, Vector, and a host of payware airports/freeware airports. The drive I've narrowed in on is the Intel 530 series 240gb SSD. Thoughts please!

Seriously considering to upgrade my 660ti to a 970 gtx 4GB. To get the full potential of it, should I need to upgrade my CPU as well? I'm not that tech-savy, so I wouldn't what else info is needed to give an adequate answer. I just dont' want to shell out for a new GPU, and then not exploiting its full potential because I didn't upgrade the CPU as well... Hello, I re installed FSX and re applied Arctic thermal paste to my i7 4790K CPU last night, and some problems have arose: With the CPU running at stock speed, 4.0GHz 1.835V (auto), my temperatures are in the mid 50's to low 70's with nothing running. And when I fire up the sim, they jump up to the low 90's and I cut power to make sure they don't overheat. Before I applied the new thermal paste, temps would be low 40's to low 50's. And with the sim running, I would never break 75oC. Now on the sim side. I have done months of research before getting the i7, and people who have it seem to get great FPS in payware planes at payware scenery with little to no stutter…

Does anybody know why when i turn down the autogen my fps are still the same like it has no effect on performance whatsoever. I remember when i first built my comp i would lower the autogen and the fps would gain a little but now they stay the same. Does that mean my cpu might be bad ?

I am thinking of installing FRS9 and FSX into WinXP x64 instead of Windows 7 (in a dual boot environment), simply so that I can have FSHotSFX working again (so much do I miss the programme!). It's a long time since I installed XP x64 (though I use it for 'travel' on a Dell XPS laptop for FS9 with no issues). I seem to remember I have to make provision for 'large' amounts of RAM (not so large by today's standards - I have 6GBs but that's fine on the PC I use, 3.8GHz CPU). Ok, so I am looking to build a pc for fsx, but I want it to hold up on other sims such as xplane, prepar3d, or other games like arma 3, battlefield 4, etc. . I have a Gigabyte Z87N-WIFI M-ITX Motherboard (about a year old) which the BIOS says is running with a mutiplier of 40. I am recommended to raise this to 42 without risk - though later I may take a serious look at overclocking. I was recommended to use Easytune (it was supplied with the PC). But when I run it the multiplier is changing all the time - I saw it go down to 8 and upto 32 - so clearly something is up and I need to find out before I go trying to change it. I see elsewhere people recommending only using the BIOS to set-up the clock multiplier and voltages. But if this value is actually changing, should I be setting a fixed value in there? Sorry if I …

How does FSX perform with a high overclock of a single core in a multicore cpu (such as 3770K) - vs leaving all cores at stock speeds vs a mild overclock of all cores?

Hey Guys, I'm hopping someone can help me here. I just bought a EZ-FLITE BS-12 pc to aviation adapter, the headset works fine but my Realtek HD Audio system that comes on my motherboard won't work, so I hear nothing but faint static when I plug it in. The issue is probably my Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio card that I have for my main speakers. I can't use it since it doesn't have a mic in. I have a computer totally dedicated to FSX. Windows 7 and FSX (along with all the add ons) are on the 120 GB SSD. It is almost full. I bought a 1 TB SSD and having the 120 GB cloned (using Acronis software) to the new 1 TB. I am paying some computer guru to install the new SSD and do the cloning. Prior to this everything was / is perfect using the 120 SSD - but I was running out of space to add more airports. Do you think everything will just work as perfectly as before? I will keep the 120 GB SSD installed and just boot to the 1 TB SSD and use it. It has a 540 Mb/sec read rate compared to the 1st gen SSD of 100 Mb/sec. I doubt the faster speed will translate …
