I set VCore manually in BIOS but get the following measurements (motherboard is a Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR): BIOS = 1.356V CPU-Z = 1.328V HWMonitor = 1.33V (1.28V min, 1.33V max) Why is there a difference? Which value should I trust? The recommended VCore max for my Q9650 is 1.3625V which is the next notch on the list of VCore's in BIOS and I don't want to go over this value (yes I know that some people happily run their Q2Q at 1.4somethingV but I don't!). Of course if the real VCore is 1.33V when my BIOS says 1.35V then perhaps I can go a few notches above 1.3625V in the list. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Been tinkering around on different suppliers websites and thought about this build. I'm pretty sure it can play FS9 without any lag or drop in FPS (<25). I want to know if it is FSX proof? I will have a resolution of 1920x1200 or 1920x1080. Can you advise me of the performance of FS9 and FSX please? New spec: Secondly, I would need to clone my current HDD and place that onto the new HDD. As the new build comes with Win 7 64-bit and I use W7 32-bit, will the clone be 100% accurate? For example 64-bit has a different folder for Program Files (x86) and normal folder. If I placed the new image across, would the folder structure change or stay the same? Also, …

Hi All, My old system died so I'm looking to do a new build. Here's what I'm looking at: CPU- 4790k GPU- Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 4GB MB - ASRock Fatal 1TY Z97 LGA 1150 Case - Cooler Masters Storm Scout 2 PSU - Corsair RM series 750W RAM - 8 GB Trident DDR3 SDRAM 2133 mhz Primary HD - Samsung Evo 500GB SSD Second HD - 1TB WD Black 7200 rmp Sata 6.0 GB/S Cooling - Corsair Hydro Series H80i liquid cooler I don't feel comfortable overclocking and can't find anyone who will do it for me. Is overclocking (4.4 - 4.8) necessary to get the best out such a system listed above. What kind of a performance penalty will be paid by not over clocking? Thanks for y…

I did a search and couldn't find this topic. If it has already been covered, then please post a link. I recently added a Samsung 850 EVO SSD, 500 GB, to my system. I then installed FSX there. Everything went well. I was expecting to see a much faster start up and load time for FSX. However, it still takes a month of Sundays to get to the main menu. I was assuming that the reason for the long start up originally was because of loading files from the hard drive into memory. Is there something else that causes the long delay? My system specs are in my profile, if that can supply a clue. Thanks in advance for any help.

So I'm looking at a system replacement, and my MB of choice, ASRock Z97 Ext6, now has a $30 option to add USB 3.1 as an outboard controller. Can't see any use for FSX/P3D, but is this something worth considering? I assume the main use case for it is external storage? scott s. .

Hello there I know that this is asked very often but I was wondering if my new mac that is coming will work very well on fsx 50+ fps with pdmg 747 at high or ultra graphics. The spec are cpu:4.0GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.4GHz memory:2GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x8GB storage:3TB Fusion Drive graphics:AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5. Computer is the retina 5K mac. I would really hope for a reply soon since i am getting the new computer soon and it would help influence my decision. I probably won't use much of add-on scenery but will use pdmg 777 with active-sky and high or ultra graphics also with ultimate traffic maxed out or near max. Thank you. If that d…

I'm going to buy a new rig. There was a lot of doubt because I'm (still) a huge old-school fs9 lover. I have so much addons on it, I wont leave my first love. The doubt is gone because my old rig wont accept the new game that crushed Simcity 5: Skylines. Another hobby. The question is about the motherboard but also about the videocard. There are to cards Im looking at: a gtx960 or a gtx970. Whats is in your opinion the best card for fs9? The second question: Im going to buy a i7-4790. Will this one run fs9 smooth enough? (And my fs9 is added with a huge amount of traffic and other addons.)

Well after tinkering with this cpu leaving HT enabled with no affinity mask set in the cfg file is the best result, its so smooth i felt sick, lol, tried it with ht off and af mask at 14 and ht on and af set to 84, it was very choppy, after deleting my af settings I could not believe how smooth it was.

I've been splashing out a little recently on some new toys but didn't run with a CPU upgrade. Currently I have an i7-3770k clocked at a stable 4.7ghz and I do get decent performance but not quite the smoothness I was looking for at payware airports mainly. Would a new CPU help and if so are they easy to replace on my current Motherboard?? Current specs: Windows 7 Gigabyte z77x-ud3h 2x4 GB Patriot RAM 2133mhz Intel i7-3770k at 4.7 K2 Mount Doom CPU cooler (air) EVGA 4GB GTX 970 2x SSD (one for windows one for FSX)

Hey. I don't know how I could have explained this properly, so I have made a video. In this video, you will see the FPS plugin at the top left of the screen, and how much CPU is being used. As you can see, my CPU is hardly being used (the value should be near 0.995). My FPS is around 30. The CPU is an old I5 2320 3GHZ. The GPU is a GTX 970 4GB. Can you tell if there is a bottleneck looking at those numbers? How can I get my CPU to use more power so I can inject better graphics and clouds into X-plane (achieve better FPS)?

Hello- I am using Sony Movie Studio Platinum, and when I try to render videos (1080P), my CPU heats up to about 95oC! (then I shut off my computer to prevent overheating). Why is this happening? I'm on an i7 4760K @ 4.4GHz 16GB RAM. Thanks.

Howdy All, I'm sure this topic gets posted about 10 times a day, but I figure this would be a good place for me to start asking questions about buying a new PC. I have a flexible budget of around 2k, I am looking for a rig that will run performance demanding add ons i.e. PMDG, REX, FSDT sceneries, AI traffic. I've done my homework and understand that its probably cheaper to build a PC on my own, however I have neither the patience nor expertise and would rather spend the money to have one built professionally. With this in mind, does anyone have any recommendations on any name brand desktop's? or even any rigs that can be bought from NewEgg or Microcent…

Next week, I'll finally be buying a new processor to replace my now out-dated i5 2320 3GHZ one. There are two options available to me: Intel® Core™ i7-5960X Processor Extreme Edition (20M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz) Intel® Core™ i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz) While the first one is a lot slower, it can be OC to 4.4GHZ on a cooler. So, that'd mean they'd be 8 cores, each working at 4.4GZ, as opposed to just 4 cores as with the 4790K. Would FSX make use of all of those 8 cores, and will it cause stuttering/tearing? Will X-plane also make use of those 8 cores? If both CPU run at the same speed, then surely the 5960X is best, right? Dumb question, but …

Hi, I have a Dell XPS8100 computer. I have changed the video card and power supply some time ago so I could run P3D V2 and now I want to update my case, mobo, cpu and Ram. I have never done this before and am wondering about the win7 install and how to go about this. As well Dell doesn't let you play with the settings to much in the Bios and wondering if this will be a problem with using the same hard drive that came with the Dell computer with my new components. Do I just install my new components, turn on my computer and reformat my hard drive or do I wipe out the hard drive first (which I dont know how to do) then try to install win7 (as well dont know how to…

Hello... It's me annoying you again ... This morning I bought the AMD Fx 8350, and I was so excited for that... til' a problem in FSX (and some other games) dissapointed me really hard... FPS is going down constantly, especifically from 25-30 to 5 for few seconds, it heppens every 10-15 seconds... I already used CCleaner to clean my PC, but it didnt work... also, I already tried to fix it changing my affinitymask from 254 to 84, LOD to 4.5, and some other things, that were useless... I really need your help, because I want to enjoy my new processor and my flight sim... I spent all the money I earned, and I wont see it in the trash cause of this problem. Regards

There could still be life after frying your CPU.... I overclocked to 5.226 and the cpu got fried... It was a fantastic cpu for all the time I've had it and it has taken some serious abuse. And it still won't give up... it's still hanging in there trying to give me all it's got... can you fall in love with a cpu ? Anyway here is a glimmer of hope for those that think they should throw out their half fried chips. By the way ... because the videoing software is trying to access the cpu and drives to record and the 2 cores are struggling with running FSX at the same time there is a lot of stuttering that is not there when flying without recording... …

Hello guys, This saturday, I'm going to buy a new CPU and I need help with this. I need your help, for the next reason. My system now: AMD Fx 4350 ASUS M5A99FX PRO 8GB Corsair Vengeance GTX 750 ti And a 450w Power Supply that came with my thermaltake v2 plus case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133221) This is gonna be important. AMD Fx 8350: Since I have an AM3+ Motherboard, I won't spend more money buying another MoBo (I mean changing from AMD to Intel), but, the power consumption is extremely high, and I don't have a very good power supply, so I'm scared for that. So if someone knows about this, please comment, I really need it PD. If so…

Hello all, and to the new faces since my hiatus. (Man have things changed, with our friend Tom being gone). Since moving to Saint Louis I've discovered MicroCenter, my new favorite place to browse while on days off and not back in Charlotte, NC ("home home"). I figured since flying is a full time job now I'd be happy never flight simming again, but alas I've been sucked back in. But all of that's a different story for another forum! After a few trips to MicroCenter checking prices on a new system build I had researched, I pulled the trigger on the parts and watched my debit card melt (and answered my bank's fraud protection department on the cell). I was afraid of…

My PC refuses to boot to bios when set for all or 3 CPU cores. I haven't been able to establish for sure whether it's the CPU that's fried or the Motherboard. Perhaps it's a voltage feed or capacitor or something that's the problem.. Does anyone know of a way to establish which it is when you don't have a swap out available....? That would be cherry vanilla if it was only the MB... and the love for the CPU would take on new heights. ....also Why 2 cores blown? I only have settings in the bios for - "Use Core 1, 2, 3, ALL, now if I select 3 cores ... which 3rd core is it trying to use... a bad ONE when possibly there's another good one that's not…

Hello, recently the new Pentium has been released. It allows for overclocking as high as 4.7 Ghz. The Pentium has a higher Single Core Performance than the i7 4770K, and FSX doesn't really support multiple cores, as Affinity Mask doesn't really take that much advantage of it. Would the Pentium when it is overclocked be a good alternative for the 4770K?
