Good day, I saw on PC Aviator this new product they are carrying. I'm not a computer guru but it seems it uses a SSD/thumb drive to increase performance. Not being an expert I have no way of knowing if this has been tried before or if it's as they say, "the holy grail." Any thoughts? Gary

Hello everyone! I'm considering updating the CPU on my good ol'computer (see prehistorical specs below), which mobo features a LGA775 socket. Please bear in mind that I DO NOT want to buy a new, more up-to-date rig. It seems that the best I can do is changing the E6550 dual core (OCed at 3Hz) for a Q9650 quad core at 3GHz too. I'm wondering what kind of benefits I could expect from the 2 additional cores : - Windows sent to core 0 through AffinityMask=14, 3 free cores for FSX, hence a smoother sim? - Same freq = same amount of calculations per second, so no change in FPS? Thanks a lot for your help and advise! Kekelekou E6550 CORE 2 DUO OCed 3Ghz, MSI …

I'm looking to buy either the gtx960 4gb, or a new processor, or a 27" full hd monitor, but I don't kniw which to buy because of my specs, could someone help me choose what to get? My specs are: 8gb Ram Core i7-2600 (3.3 gHz) Asus gtx 550ti 1gb I could run everything fine on ultra high, but when I go to a payware airport like san francisco, I get around 10-15 fps, but when I'm on the default airports running on payware aircrafts with the followind add-ons, it runs okay. Add-ons: Orbx global Orbx vector Orbx trees Rex essentials plus overdrive I want to know which of my components is affecting that so I may make a change, and which components you …

I'm currently running P3D and X-Plane. My desktop is an I7-2600K@ 4.6GHZ, EVGA GTX770 4 GB, and 8 GB ram. I'm really interested in what might help for P3D. I'm going to be retiring soon (fixed income and all) so I don't want to spend a boatload of money by upgrading the CPU and motherboard. Would I get more bang for my buck by going from the GTX770 to the GTX970, or might I see a better performance jump by putting P3D on a SSD drive. It's currently running on a 7200 rpm mechanical drive. Any help would be appreciated.

After 4 years of tripping on my old desktop, I decided to change things up completely and go to a mITX system. This was done mostly to downsize the amount of space my "office" was using and give more desk space to the wife for quilting (or at least that's what she thinks ) The old rig: AMD 965BE (Not OC'd) running on a Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H with 8GB RAM (Ripsaws, I think?) and an XFX Radeon HD 6870 (twin fan). Storage was a couple of Toshiba 2GB drives (probably not 7200RPM, but I don't remember). This setup ran FSX, and now FSX: SE, surprisingly well. I don't run any scenery and pretty minimal traffic. It would usually average around 20FPS running anythi…

Hello! Yesterday I was using O&O Defrag to defrag my D: drive where all my games, including FSX, are. Both C: (system) and D: are partitions on a Western Digital Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200RPM drive (NTFS file system). During the defrag a power outage occured. When the power came back, I restarted my PC noticed that apparently there was nothing wrong with it and started a new "complete/name" defrag on D: drive which completed this time. Today restarted my PC and felt like playing a bit of "War Thunder". That's when I noticed something was wrong. During the file check "War Thunder" does at start, I got a "Disk read/write error". At the same time an aler…

So preparing my PC to update to Win 10 and finally move to FSX SE. I have my OS on a 128GB SSD and my FSX on a 256GB SSD and all my AI and backup files on a 1TB HDD. My thought was to take the entire FSX folder on the 256 SSD and copy/paste it over to the HDD as a backup until I get FSX SE up and running on the 256. So to clean off the 256 SSD do I need to reformat or do a secure erase? Both I have read are methods for restoring your SSD. I was also thinking of doing it after I successfully upgrade to Win10 on the 128GB to do a clean install of the OS.

I am building a new PC within the next couple of months, and am having difficulty nailing down the right CPU to purchase. Does anyone on here run a GTX 970 with an i5 4690k? I'm thinking either that, or upgrade the 4690k for the 4790k, and sacrificing in other areas of the PC. My budget is approximately $1500, and I am pretty dead set on the 970. I will be running other games and stuff too. This is my current outlook on pc part picker. Tell me what y'all think. Is the performance gain with the i7 enough in FSX/P3D to spend the extra cash? Hell, should I wait for Skylake?http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/v7HkZL I guess I should be more specific about my FSX habits. Right now,…

Hi. Specific question re. RAM and FS9/FSX. I'm putting together specs for a mini-PC (I need one for travel that will go onto a plane as hand luggage, as I spent most of the year abroad working) for FSX & FS9. Basic specs I am probably going with: ASUS® H97I-PLUS: Mini-ITX, LG1150, USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs Intel® Core i7-4790k (4.0GHz) 8MB Cache 4GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 970 1x480GB KINGSTON HYPERX SAVAGE SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s 1x240GB KINGSTON HYPERX SAVAGE SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s Windows 7 x64 Premium But as for the RAM? 16GBs is not so much of an extra layout over 8GBs (though it may be just psychological to go over 8GBs?) and 2133MHz RAM not so much more expensive than 1600MH…

Hi everyone. This is my first post here as I am more of a reader than writer but this time I need to speak out. I'm one/two days ahead of building my dreamed PC and I need your quick advise or suggestions if the items I picked will work as good as they can(I was also thinking future-wise). This is my little gift for myself for finishing Air Traffic Controller course so I picked some high-end components without looking into my pocket. CPU: Intel Core i7-5930K, socket 2011-3, 64bit, 3.5GHz, 140W, cache 15MB, BOX (BX80648I75930K) MOBO: Asus Rampage V Extreme/U3.1, 2011-v3, X99, 8xDDR4-2133, 10xUSB 3.0, WiFi, LAN ATX RAM: G.Skill DDR4 16GB (4x4GB) Ripjaws4 3000MHz CL15 X…

Afternoon All, I've been spending some time putting together a list of components for building myself a new PC. Primarily I'll be building it around FSX but as a photographer I've also compiled the components with Adobe Photoshop CS in mind. I think I've covered all bases relatively well but please feel free to post comment and suggestions for any alterations you think I should consider. I'll be using my current monitor which is ilyama Prolite B2409HDS, I guess its getting on a bit now but I think a monitor upgrade can wait for now. After installing P3D using GTX Titan 4790k @ 4.79Ghz 3xSSD stripe raid c drive 2x ssd stripe raid for p3d/eliteD 1 x ssd for vav programs/ asn ect 1x ssd for add-on scenery Basically Been having major issues with GTX Titan keeping up with my 4.79Ghz OC for about 2 weeks now. Finally very reluctantly coughed out for TitanX in the hope that Better GPU will fix the problem TitanX was more stable using EVGA perscion as opposed to AsusGpuTweak with old Titan, TitanX was not stable with Asus GPU Tweak. But TitanX was still crashing after about 30 mins watching traffic in sim. Since I always have up to 5/6/7/8 drives in my setu…

Actually this is kind of a 2 part question. I just changed jobs and will be doing a lot of travelling, and I'd like to do some simming on the road when I get the chance. I am looking for some laptop recommendations and along with that I am wondering what sim platform will perform best on a laptop. I fly P3Dv2 on my desktop but with it being so GPU dependent I'm thinking a laptop in my budget (around $1500 or less) may not work. I do have a license for P3Dv1.4, so that is a good option since I already have a lot invested in addons. I have also considered X-plane 10 (North America edition). So I am mostly wanting to get feedback from those of you who have used a laptop for …

Its time again, and I have some budget to work with. I have some thoughts on what I want to do. I have some parts loosely selected and would appreciate any feedback, or just help me remember what I don't already know or forgot. This will be a PC used as a gamer, but I'll also do some playing around with VMware as I load up windows server OSs in a lab environment. Here goes... For CPU, I prefer Intel and I've researched the Intel Core i7-4790K Devil’s Canyon Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1150. I'll pick up an aftermarket heat sink as well. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117369 It seems I can go higher but I'm not sure its worth it. For the…

I don't quite know which may be the proper forum for this. Today, for the first time in many years, my computer developed a slight, random, intermittent latency in keyboard input and mouse movement and clicks. Its as if the cursor "sticks" or the scroll wheel doesn't scroll or the clicks don't register. Last a second or a few seconds, but is maddening to say the least. I have not seen this on any computer an many years, now inexplicably, this has started, I tried a system restore for several prior dates, but it still happens. I did not install any software that I am aware of. In searching the web the indications are that something is using an inordinate amount o…

Hi Everyone - I am increasingly wary of my own "build it yourself" computer skills. While I have swapped memory and added a few graphics cards in my lifetime, I am simply not comfortable with assembling a system from scratch. I read with interest the recent forum chat about Jetline Systems, as I've been leaning towards a Jetline myself, but the cost of their systems is definitely giving me pause. So, I ask if you have thought about an out-of-the-box Asus system, specifically this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883220989 . (If link does not work anymore, it's an ASUSG10AJ-US010S Desktop, PC Intel Core i7 4790 (3.6GHz) 16GB DDR3 2TB HD…
