  1. I`m thinking about this system for FSX: -I7 4790K - 4.4ghz (turbo boosted) -GTX750Ti 2gb -8gb RAM -500gb HDD Could this run FSX with addons like the PMDG737 smoothly? Thanks.

I am currently doing a complete uninstall of box FSX in preparation to purchase FSX Steam. I have an external SSD which I used for my photo scenery. I have read the sim would run better on it's own drive but I wondered if that would hold true for an external drive or should I install it back on my C drive and continue to use the SSD for scenery storage? My computer is kind of old and I don't want to invest in another internal drive in case I need a new rig down the road. Thanks in advance for any advice.

SSD drives are finally reaching at least semi sensible prices, but I find the massive variation of prices for similar kit, very confusing. I'm after a 240Gb SSD, and the prices range from about £60 up to about £130 !!!! The specs appear identical, only the brands being different. Am I likely to regret buying a cheap or 'unbranded' drive?

  5. I installed a new 1 TB Samsung 850 SSD (different from my OS SSD) for the new P3DV3. Yesterday I had to Blue screen of death (mini dump). 1) What do I do? Would returning this and getting another copy of SSD help? 2) IS this some BIOS update issue for the SSD? 3) I have my P3DV3 installed here...what if I pull this out and put a regular HD and copy all the files over and use the same drive, would that work or would that void my P3D Registration? In which case do I have to uninstall and reinstall in the HD? I have the next two weeks to return this ITem (got it at Amazon) Any suggestions?

  7. I am considering migrating my entire HDD to a Samsung 850 EVO 1Tb SSD with their proprietary software. I have searched about whether I have to re-enter my licenses after the data has been transfered but haven't found anything regarding whether the machine address code (MAC) would be changed or not. I figure the disk is cloned so the registry entries would all be the same. I know that people often clone their drives but I have never read whether they have to do anything to get the sim and addons running. Has anyone out there migrated their data to an SSD? Thanks in advance. Robert

Hi All- Hoping I can get some quick advice- My original setup was a 500gb, 7200RPM SATA 32MB Cache HDD which ran the operating system and everything else (C: drive), and a 300GB VelociRaptor 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache HDD (F: drive) which was exclusively for the flight sim. I recently updated my flight sim hard drive to a SSD, so I cloned the 300GB flight sim F: drive to it. Everything is fine, but now I have an empty 300GB hard drive. I could fit everything from my current C; drive onto it if I wanted. What I'm wondering is if that would be worthwhile to move the operating system to the better drive or whether the performance difference is so small it wouldn't ma…

Hello All Just realized my desktop has been defragging my SSD that contains the majority of my FSX files and ALL of my add-on's (except REX). Been noticing some stutters that I hadn't been getting before and started to troubleshoot when I realized my mistake. Think it happened twice, at the most... Stutter problems seemed to start when I downloaded a scenery add-on but maybe the result of the Windows 7 defrag process??? So, the question I have is; can the defrag process cause stuttering? If so, is there a away to fix? Or, am I faced with having to scrap the SSD (reformat) and start from scratch? Not really sure what the implication is of that. Obviousl…

For the last three days I have been experiencing a very strange problem that I will have difficulty explaining, here are the facts: My PC that I have been using for the past three years without a single problem suddenly does not boot to Windows 7 Home Premium automatically, it would systematically stop on the boot page asking me to go through the BIOS settings to recover them. Since I avoided changing anything in BIOS, I can't understand why I suddenly have to go through this every time, but this is only a minor irritant and might hide something else that I am not aware of that is why I mention it When I started my last three flights, I had no problem at all, but approxi…

  11. Hi guys I've get very narrowed between this two CPUs..... For the using, i use the P3D 2.5 (( in windowed mode )) with my home cockpit (( 7 monitors )) and too mush USBs and a couple of external programs as PFPX/ FSGRW/ REX4/ EFB/ JeeHell STB intruments/ Pro ATC X etc. To be honest i'm leaning towards the 6 core CPU because i've read before its more comfortable in processing of the heavy softwares (like P3D as i know).. Is it will give more FPS in the heavy sceneries & heavy aircraft like PMDG737 ? Does the hexa core CPU will beat away any 4 core CPU in the competition of P3D processing and its very heavy addons? Sooooo many people adviced m…

Hi, I have a question about RAM in general and how it applies to most flight sims. In particular how the RAM speed and timing relates to overall performance. Presently I have an ASUS Z97-AR board with supports standard RAM up to 1600MHz and OC RAM up to 3200MHz. It is presently paired with 16GB of 1600MHz RAM CL8. In looking around at other RAM available I notice the majority of the faster RAM (2133, 2400 etc) comes with higher clock time....CL of 11 or so. Would there be any significant benefit to going to a faster RAM if is CL is higher? Seems like the it would take longer to access it but once it was accessed the data would transfer faster but if you sp…

It is time for new computers so I went down to the computer store I deal with (good past experiences) and ordered the components which included a i7-6700K for each computer (I live in Canada). This was last week and they told me it would be 1 or 2 weeks to get all the components. They phoned back today and said the supplier they deal with is backordered for 10,000 units of the 6700K. He said at the very earliest I would get the 6700's is a couple of months and it could be more. He says they deal with one of the 3 biggest suppliers in Canada and I was welcome to look around but he said it is hig…

So, I currently have 8G of RAM installed in my PC. I recently got X-Plane and would like to add more RAM so I can make use of the HDMesh/OSM stuff that's out there. If I just add 16G, would that work ok? I would assume I'd want to at least match the timings as best I can? Or, do they need to match exactly? My current RAM has timings of 9-9-9-24 i believe. If I get RAM that is 9-9-9-27, will that be good or should all those numbers match? Oh, speed is 1600 on current so the new RAM I add of course would also be 1600. Or, do I have to instead buy all new/matching RAM and discard the current RAM?

Just a heads up RealTek have released new HD Audio drivers v6.0.1.7571 (9/9/2015) and they have solved a couple of audio issues I was having in P3D and in nVidia's ShadowPlay recordings (line-in/mic-in). If you do use the line-in/mic-in I'd recommend you select "Separate all input jacks as independent input devices" to avoid ShadowPlay getting "confused" -- results in an "echo" when recording line-in. This is a direct link, AVSIM might block this ... I did check for viruses but highly recommend anyone that downloads also do a virus check. http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/Realtek_Audio_Win7-8-81-10_V6017571.zip I don't believe these drivers are s…

Hi guys, I'm buying a PC, that was used for gaming, but not FSX simulation. It works well with any game on high settings and so on. It has a (small) processor, intel i3 2100 3.1 Ghz., MSI G-force gtx 550 1 gig.. Could these components handle FSX? What should the minimum specs be for a decent frame rate? Say at least 15 fps, minimum. It also has a MSIZ77A-G43 mobo and 8 GB Corsair Ram. Please expert advice. Thanks a million. john goncalves

A couple of times already, I installed Win7 on my C:-drive, but it creates a system partition on my second SSD, the one where P3D is installed. Now I had a look at the drives when installing Windows and the C:-drive was recognized as 'primary' and my P3D-drive as 'system'. I couldnt find how to change this, so to make sure the C:-drive was used as system disc, I disconnected the P3D-drive and installed to C: This worked and my C:-drive is now recognized as system disc, but upon checking the P3D-drive after reconnecting it, that one is also recognized as system disc. What can I do to change my P3D-drive to primary, or whatever is relevant?

Hi guys. Yesterday I installed an SSD for the first time, transferring my FSX installation seamlessly across from it's previous home on one of my HDDs. The only installation issue was the device driver not installing properly, but a pc reset or two solved that and the subsequent much faster loading of FSX was very welcome. That was yesterday. Today my pc thinks it doesn't have an SSD, and no matter what I try to do, I can't get it to recognise it's new component. Any ideas? Nothing has changed since yesterday's installation - I haven't even put the side panel back on the case yet - and I can't see how anything could have changed in the software installation either. …

I'm considering upgrading from my Lynnfield system by getting a Skylake i5-6600K processor, Z170 chipset motherboard, DDR4 memory and Windows 10. If I also replace my HDD with an SSD what would be the minimum size drive for FSX and Windows 10? I was considering a smaller SSD for FSX only, but in reading forum threads, it sounds like it is best to install the operating system and FSX on one SSD drive.

So I purchased an I-7 4790k along with an Asus Z97 E board to fly FSX. I don't fly within P3D as it is pretty much useless to me at this point. I am waiting (if they go into this), for a 64bit version to deal with VAS. Anyway, can someone recommend a guide to correctly OC the I-7 4790K ? I have searched online but several I've reads are of different approach to each other, leaving me even more confused.

  23. Okay guys about a week ago I posted seeking advice for a new build since my old PC was ready to retire. I ended up with a Intel Core i7 6700K,Corsair H100i GTX, Noctua CPU Fans, ASUS Republic Of Gamers VIII Hero mobo, 4X4gb GSkill Ripjaw V 3200mhz for XMP, EVGA 980GTX SC, Samsung 850 500gb SSD, EVGA 850 Watt 80 Gold Modular PSU, 1TB WD Black 7200rpm, with a 64gb Cache SSD drive running Windows 10 all in a Corsair 650D. Here are the pics, I have successfully used the ASUS 5-Way optimizer and achieved a stable 24/7 4.8ghxz OC with XMP. Temps never break 72c, this is great!

I am currently running a system around a Lynnfield i5 overclocked to 4.0 GHz on a single 1080p display and a GTX 275 and am pretty ok with the performance. My question is that I am in the process of putting together a Haswell i7 4790K clocked at 4.0 GHz but I want to move to a three monitor display. My question is whether the i7 4790 with a GTX 9700 over three monitors will give me at least the performance of the i5 4.0GHz system on a single 1080p display? Thanks, RH
