I'm just looking for some information regarding laptops and FSX. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for this topic. Due to my current situation I am looking at getting a laptop to play FSX on, i know this isn't ideal but neither is my situation. I have a desktop, (specs- i5-3570k @ 3.4ghz, 8gb RAM, nvidia gtx 760 2gb, windows 7 64bit) and I use PMDG-777-737/aerosoft/captainsim, Active Sky Next, REX 4, Pro-ATC, Ezdok and most often a payware airport at my departure and arrival airport. This desktop runs my flight sim exactly how I want it and I am wondering if there are any laptops out there that can run FSX smoothly like this. I am looking at spending no more than £…

So what is everyone's recommendation for a MB to use with a Skylake build. I look at some of these things and they seem so over the top with a price point to match. I just need a good quality MB that will take a single video card (probably nice to have capability to expand to 2), up to 4 sticks of ram. 2 SSD's and 1 HDD. and will allow overclocking and a good supply of USB's to handle all of my FS hardware.....even though I do use an external port dock because I have too many anyway.

I have tried it in different motherboards, i have tried my two graphics cards. The two graphics all act the same in fsx. Spikes and artifacts when panning. Everytime windows gets demanding or i try to play games the heatsinks go full speed. I have tried two heat sinks. The stock and a h80i. I did memtest and no memory errors. Only thing that is down too now is cpu or power supply. Any opinions?

I see the water cooler I am looking at for my new build has pre-applied thermal paste. (Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX CPU Cooler) Is this ok for good overclocking, or should it be removed and another paste applied? Thanks, Don

I`m building a new PC for FSX. Some people have been suggesting me to get a Xeon over the 4690K. I`m not planning on overclocking but I`m leaving that option open by getting the 4690K. I personally think the Xeon is intended for CAD and modelling applications and not FSX? Should I just stick to the 4690K despite me probably not doing an OC? Thanks.

Hello Pilots! Currently I am planning to upgrade my PC for better performance in FSX with all my addons. Now I wanted to see if anyone has recommendations for me. Especially because I cant decide if I should first upgrade my CPU or my Graphic card What I mainly use on my flights: PMDG 737, Aerosoft Airbus series - FS2Crew - Active Sky Next with some AS2012 textures and REX Softclouds - FTX Global Base and Vector - ProAtc X - FSRealtime - EZCamViews (not ezdok) - FS-Simtimzer - and than FlyTampa LOWW - Aerosoft EDDH and EHAM - the rest of my Airports are relative FPS friendly freewares... I think this are my mostly used progs when flying. My actual Hardware (…

Greetings! I am building a new PC. I have been away from Flight Sim for 3-4 years (pre Steam and pre p3d). My new build will be for FSX Steam, but I also do Photoshop and Video editing. I anticipate using FSX Steam, PDG 737, Orbix, Rex, most all of the goodies. I am guessing my system will be overkill for Flight Sim, but would like confirmation of that. I will be overclocking the CPU. This is my third build of a system. As I only build system every 4 years or so, I am going high end. I respect the contributors on AvSim and hope for some feedback. Thanks guys! This is my current wish list: CPU: Intel i7-6700 MSI Graphics Card GTX 980 gaming 4g ASUS ROG Maximus …

I can just see it now. All flight simmers will be buying these $400 boards with 17 phase voltage regulators, expensive caps, and ordering tanks of liquid nitrogen. LOL Imagine the possibilities simming at 7GHZ. We can dream anyhow. http://www.kitguru.net/components/cpu/anton-shilov/intel-core-i7-6700k-skylake-hits-nearly-7ghz/

Here's my question: I ordered two new SSD's this evening. I currently run Windows 7 and FSX from a 500GB Hybrid drive with a 1TB as my secondary drive. Last week, I installed the upgrade to Windows 10 and reverted back to W7 after having some issues with FSX. I blame all of this due to not doing a clean install. Since I activated Windows 10, has my computer already registered with MS as having an active W10 key even though I reverted back? I'm under the impression that there is a code on my motherboard that was recognized and saved by microsoft in the event that I need to reinstall on a new drive. I've been searching the web but haven't found a direct answer. My …

Just built a new P3D rig and this time I replaced my 2 Intel 520 Series SSDs I used in my previous rig (one 120 GB for OS and one 240 GB for P3D) with a single 400 GB Intel 750 Series PCIe NVMe SSD. Up until now I've only been playing around with the new rig finding a stable overclock etc but now it's time to perform the final installation of Win 10 and P3D and I'm on the fence if I should go with one or two partitions. In a way it would be nice to partition the disk so I can go on using a separate drive letter in Windows for everything related to P3D but then on the other hand I could of course simply use a separate folder directly under the root of the drive cal…

Hi. I am looking to upgrade and get a new computer. Currently running: Intel i5 4670 GTX 660 8gb memory. The upgrade would be: Intel i5 4690K GTX970 8gb memory. The advice I need is regarding the processor. I can get the i5 4690K which would be overclocked up to 4.6ghz. Or I can get the i7 4790K which would also be overclocked up to 4.6ghz. Which processor would be the best? Is there really that much between the i5 and the i7? Thanks. Callum.

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of assembling my first computer soon (around Thanksgiving/Black Friday). I don't really have experience doing this, but I hear its pretty easy. Anyways, I want a computer that can run FSX well (like around 30-40fps on average) and can also run well with payware addons like the NGX, 777, and FSDT airports. I'm on a budget of about $700-900 including monitor and Windows and am thinking maybe prices for some parts may go down around Black Friday. I also live near a MicroCenter if that means anything. I searched on PcPartPicker and found an interesting result. http://pcpartpicker.com/forums/topic/52388-budget-pc-for-flight-simulator W…

Hi. My new system (solely for FS9 & FSX) is basically an Intel i7-4790K@4GHz, an nVidia GTX970 GPU and two Samsung EVO 850 SSDs (500GB each). I wonder if anyone else uses a Samsung SSD for FS and has tried optimising the drive (for performance, reliability, or whatever) using the Samsung Magician 4.6 software. http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/global/html/whitepaper/whitepaper12.html I shall certainly disable prefetching, indexing etc. (as generally advised) on these drives and wonder whether there would be any point in installing this bit of software in addition.. If you have experience with the Magician programme, perhaps …

Hi, My 'main' FS PC is back in the UK. Meanwhile, on long-term contract working abroad (Sri Lanka), my Dell XPS Gaming laptop (ten years old now and overdue for renewal) on which I was flying FS9 has just died (needs new M/B I think). So I am Flightsimless. Not a happy state to be in of course. I don't want to ship my large PC over so am looking to buy a 23.6" All-in-One when I am back in the UK (assuming I can take it as hand-luggage). The specs I am considering are as below. Any comments? I am trying to keep the total, inc. VAT to under £1000 sterling. Specific questions: I've already had one SSD die on me, so have gone for a hybrid drive this time. Can't s…

Hey guys I have had a super solid setup for quite a few years now, and if it wasn't for someone spilling there drink into her she would still be with us. I will break down what she was and turn to the community for suggestions on her replacement. Intel 2700K 4.8ghz ASUS P8Z77-V Pro 8GB DDR3 Corsair Ram EVGA 780GTX 4gb Superclocked 2TB 7200rpm HDD 64GB Cache SSD Corsair 850W Gold Modular Corsair H80i Corsair 650D Now I know the motherboard and MAYBE the gfx card is gone, I think the other parts especially case and PSU can be salvaged. Skylake is out now, will my going from a 2700K at 4.8ghz to a Skylake be a performance improvem…

I use 5 of these components ... and I'm somewhat puzzled by some of Maximum PC's choices. For example why pair up Adam Studio Monitors with Creative labs? I've had some Adam speakers and they are as neutral and clear as I've ever heard from a speaker, even better than my Genelec's ... but to pair powered monitors up with Creative Labs is like pairing up a VW bug engine with a Le Ferrari chassis. Then there is the Dell UP2715K 27" 5K monitor ... love the 5K part, but 27"?? That's going to produce some VERY small text ... bare minimum 5K should be 40". I suspect they use such a small monitor for squeezing in 5K pixels to make any AA issues seem almost unnoticeable w…

So here is a brief explanation of a lesser known skylake attribute, suggesting much improved single-thread performance. See what you make of it: http://wccftech.com/intel-inverse-hyper-threading-skylake/
