I've not been in a position time and resource wise for quite a while to be able to tinker with MSFS. I'll be buying a new PC for casual simming. I've already purchased FSXSE. I have a limited budget and don't have the time, ability, or interest really in building my own machine. For about $1k I have the option of purchasing a big-brand, pre-built machine. Option 1) Intel 4790k + GeForce 980ti Option 2) Intel 6700k + GeForce 970 Either will come with 16GB RAM. I'll likely only be gaming on a single 1080p monitor. Maybe a 2nd monitor down the road. From my research it seems like the newer, faster processor with the cheaper graphics card would provide a …

Black November got the best of me.. After watching prices and deals, I finally placed my order tonight. I originally was planning the 6700k but I've watched the prices rise over $100 in the last month. I picked up a 6600k/mobo combo for 425 compared to $420 for the 6700k alone. i5-6600k Gigabyte Z170 Gaming 7 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3000 2x Samsung 850 EVO 250GB (2 months old, in my current system and will be moved to the new build) Western Digital Blue 1TB HDD Corsair Hydro H100i GTX Gigabyte Windforce GTX 970 (1 year old, in my current system) Corsair RM850x PSU Windows 10 All of these parts are going to be wrapped up in a Corsair Obisidian 750D To…

Dear AVSIM community, after 5 years my computer is starting to lose its capabilities and becoming a lot slower despite cleaning it and even resetting it to its factory state. So I have decided that it is time to get a new PC. Doing research I found lots of forums and blogs discussing 'what PC is ideal for FSX' however the topics seemed to be outdated and not really answering my concerns... I don't know much about computers but this is what I was able to find and seemed to me price reasonable: NvVidia GeForce GTX750 T1 1TB HDD + 256 SSD Prozessor 3.56 GHZ Intelcore I7 DDR3 8GB RAM Windows 8.1 The Desktop is a Lenovo (an exhibition model) for mode…

Any have any experience with this? http://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/primo-cache/register.html#extend I'm assuming it's a non-starter as I found very few references to flight simulation. These folks seem to think otherwise... http://www.pcaviator.com/store/ Cheers, Mark

I recently had to do a clean reinstall on My system and have been unable to get my sound working as before. Somehow is was able to get it on previous installs but am at a loss this time. When I test the devices thru the Realtec audio manager all work but I cannot get any sound out of the rear speakers in application even thought selected as default device. The headst does do so if selected as the default. I know its a simple setup issue but I'm at a loss. Any help would be apprecia…

Hi all, I have been running a powerful machine for my simming needs for a while, but now I am getting more into video production and editing (Premiere Pro and AE). I have a set of 8GB G.Skill 2400MHz CL9 ram at the moment, clocked at 2166MHz, but it doesn't seem to be enough for my video needs. If I would like to upgrade my RAM, what would you recommend and how much of it? The reason I am asking here is because I would like my selection of RAM to be compatible and efficient for my simming needs. And rest of my specs are: Asus ROG Maximus Gene V i5 3570K OC 4.9GHz NVidia GTX780 Ti superclocked HDD: 2TB WD Caviar Black SSD: 2x 512GB Samsung Evo (I think), 1x …

Hi guys, I'm looking at getting a new laptop, would like to fly X-Plane as smoothly as possible in the upper range of settings, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with something similar to this MSI Laptop A short set of specs; I7 6700 HQ (2.6/3.5 GHz) GTX 980 M 8GB 16GB RAM (will upgrade to 32GB immediately) 2 x 128GB M2 SSD (RAID) 1TB HDD (will upgrade to SSD a few months down the track) I mainly concerned with the performance of the mobile version of the GTX 980, and how it stacks up against the real version:) Thanks Smokey

I recently read into this article, concerning SSD read & write speeds with the new TLC NAND Flash chips being implemented. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2998497/storage/tlc-nand-ssds-the-crippling-problem-storage-makers-dont-advertise.html#tk.nl_pcwbest I have personally experienced this lag they speak of, and wondered if something was wrong with the drive. I too was duped into thinking that but the article reveals the ugly truth behind the drives. I suspect that if anyone experiences lag in their sims, they could be experiencing a cache issue, although not confirmed. While we all expect SSD drives to be wickedly fast, it's the internal hardware design tha…

I currently run an i7 3770K OCed to 4.5Ghz (runs solid) and a GTX 670 FTW with 4 x 24" Dell wideview + 1 19" ELO touch screen. Win 7 Home OS. As long as I don't go nuts on weather (not too many clouds) it runs ok..I get close to 30FPS in some Islands somehwere.. and anywhere between 12-20FPS most other places.. it still is flyable in P3D V3. I have 3 SSDs (1 1TB, 1 250GB and 2 x 100GB SSD) and too many HDs... I've been looking at the latest CPU i7 6700K and the GTX 970. I'd probably need no more than the CPU, MB, 8 GB Memory and the Video card and a cooler...and Win 7 OS. .totaling around $1000 IS it worthy it upgrading or should I skip this gen…

Hey, So, I'm wanting to eek out a few more FPS from X-Plane + P3D V3 and I've been thinking of updating a couple of areas in my computer. Currently: - 3470K (OC'd to 4.5Ghz) - GTX 970 4GB - 16GB Corsair 1600mhz ram Would it be worth my time updating the CPU and ram to something more modern? Or given that I have a stable OC at 4.5ghz, will I really notice much change? Cheers

Hi Guys Been away for a couple of years and am looking to build a new machine to get back into the air. I have done a fair bit of reading here (thank you all contributors) and gone through the latest component specs for long enough to do my head in frankly, to arrive at the following short list of components below which I think fit together ok but open to any suggestions. Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Asus Z170-DELUXE ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Kingston FURY 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4 GB EVGA Super NOVA P2 Platinum 1000W Fractal Design Define R5 Mid Tower Win7 64bit Ho…

Hey all, So, my situation is that I'm on a laptop. Overall it runs FSX pretty nicely out of the box, though it struggles with denser scenery etc etc, basically the usual complaints. Now with P3Dv3 being out, I'd like to finally take the plunge and go for it. My problem is that I don't have much disk space and P3D being the huge program it is, I can't feasibly have P3D and all the add ons on my internal SSD. So, I want to get an external drive for my add ons, such as AI traffic and scenery. With P3D requiring programs to be installed outside the main sim folder, this is the perfect opportunity to make this kind of structuring change. My question is, however, what I sh…

Hi All, I'm currently on the market for SSD(s) as an upgrade to my (archaic, as some may call it) HDD. However, I'm not sure whether I should buy one 500GB SSD for both the OS and P3D to be stored on at once (I thought this would be best?), or else buy two 256GB SSDs and have one dedicated purely to the OS and the other to P3D, or reluctantly buy one 256GB SSD and use my HDD for the OS. I say reluctantly for the latter idea as wouldn't I then only be partially utilising the full capabilities of the SSD due to access speeds from the OS and such? Anyway..I have already looked through countless other posts for an answer but I'm still not convinced I know what I'm do…

Hello, In a moment for stupidity I went ahead and bought a new system last night. I could still cancel (I just need to let them know in about 15 hours) but could you let me know what you think of the system before I decide to go ahead with it or not? It's for P3D and for video / After Effects rendering. Intel Core i7 6700K at 4.6GHz Asus Z170-A 32GB (2x16GB) Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX Black, 2666MHz, CAS 16-18-18-35 (can't find faster memory at 32GB) 6GB EVGA GTX 980 2 x SSDs 1 x HDD It seems like a great system and I’m sure I’ll be happy but I just want my mind put at rest as it is £1500 worth of kit. Thanks for reading, Mike

Hello All, I am considering upgrading the GPU of my 4 year-old desktop. It does show its age however I don't think it'll be worth the investment for me to buy a new computer. The current specs are: -i7 2600k @ 4.5 GHz -GTX 570 1.5 GB -8 GB RAM -750W PSU The GTX 570 is of course prehistoric by today's standards. The i7 2600k is also a few generations old, but it's still a strong processor that seems to manage pretty fine. So..I need some advice from you guys on what I should be looking at. Would something like a GTX 770 be a sufficient upgrade to minimise stuttering? I'm aware that, whilst P3D places more emphasis on the GPU, it still remains primarily CPU depe…

My DVD drive on tower PC game computer went bad. It will not read half the DVD's that it used to read just fine. These DVD discs still read perfectly on an old laptop I also own. Anyways the old DVD drive is Samsung riteMaster and windows property says "Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 ATA Device". Is it just a case of unplugging the old drive and plugging in the new, or are there other steps to install it? Are the ATA drives in this link (Amazon) all the the type that should work? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=ata+dvd+drive My system is Windows 7, i3 c.p.u. I have a desktop PC that I used for FSX and Open Rails (MS Train Sim) but which has been unused for sometime now. The full spec is as follow: ASUS A8N-SLI with AMD Athlon 64 x 2 cpu 3800+ 4Mb of RAM DDR PC 3200 Radeon X700 PCI(E) with 128mb RAM Philips PHL1500 15" monitor with 1014x768 max I am thinking about rekindling my interest in FSX but would like to get a bigger monitor (22 inch) as the Philips isn't the best of monitors. I am aware that the cpu isn't the best for FSX but I am not in the market for spending a lot of money on upgrading or replacing my system. I was wondering whether replacing the video card would allow me to use a bi…

I have a little problem with my PC. I installed an SSD, formated it as drive "F" and installed Prepar3D v3. I ran disk cleanup after installation and the PC ran for the day (9 hours) and then it just rebooted without warning. I had never run disk cleanup before if I may add. Upon trying to reboot I received a message that stated that the overclock failed and to press F1 to enter the BIOS. The setting's looked okay and I ensured the proper boot order was in place so I exited and the PC still wouldn't boot. I removed the SSD thinking that it was causing the problem but nothing changed. I am really stumped. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Robert

Hi guys, I have recently built myself a new desktop PC, just to be clear, these are the specs: AsRock H97 Anniversary Intel Core i5-4590 3.3 GHz (unfortunately locked but the coming back to FSX idea kind of came to me after I had bought it, otherwise I'd probably go for a K version) MSI GeForce GTX960 2GB OC 8 GB RAM (1600 MHz) CoolerMaster 3rd party CPU cooler And now for my storage solution... I bought a 1 TB HDD and found an unused SSD (OCZ Vector 128 GB) at home. At that point, this seemed perfect but it only took Win 10, FSX and its add-ons to completely fill that SSD. My question is, should I invest in the 256 GB SSD or should I just reinstall t…
