  2. Just taken delivery of a Toshiba 3Tb SATA III hard drive. Plugged it in, but my WIndows 7 64-bit Pro, Asus Z87-A motherboard, is only recognising it as a 746Gb drive. Any ideas, please, as to how I can get Windows 7 to recognise and initialise the whole disk, albeit with the normal architecture limitations? Thanks in advance.

  3. Hi all, Just had a quick question - I have two Samsung SSD 840 EVOs. One for my OS and one for my FSX install. The SSD comes with the Samsung Magician software that offers a range of features. I was just wondering if anyone took advantage of these features to optimize their SSDs? I'm looking at the Perfomance Optimization, OS Optimization, Over Provisioning, and RAPID mode features. I wouldn't be totally honest if I said I knew what all those features did. Just wanted to see what other flight-simmers/PC users have done. Also, on a related-note: every time I boot my PC and log in, I get a message basically saying Samsung Magician needs Admin rights in order to run …

I know this question gets asked a lot. Im not looking for an AMD vs Intel war. I fly FSX once a month and love scenery. Im looking to get a new PC built. What should i focus on to get good strong sceanery without it costing my first born and over investing? Power? (min watts) Processor? (what do i need) Graphics card? Anything else?

  5. So I am thinking of building a new PC for Flight Sim. My current is getting a bit long in the tooth although it still functions very well. My initial build will be for FSX-SE and I may add P3D in the future. Here is what I picked out in a very quick run through. Thoughts? Note that I will use my current GTX970 in this build and throw my old video card into the current computer which will become by #2 for WideFS. Still looking at screen options but something like the 40" Phillips 4K TV has caught my interest. Also, please don't be put off by the prices....these are in Canadian dollars and we are at a 35% penalty to the greenback these days. Corsair Coolin…

Evening all I am a noob with all of this I will admit. I have now received my 6700k overclocked to 4.6Ghz apparently. Ive downloaded CpuZ and can't see where it says 4.6Ghz or if it is at all at 4.6. Ive attatched the CPUZ reading and the task manager performance page. Also, I see it has 4 cores but 8 logical cores, what would be the best AM for me in P3D? Thanks for the help

  7. I've got myself a 6700K and also a set of high speed DDR4 RAM. A TeamGroup Xtreem 3866 18-20-20-40 2T XMP 2x4GB kit. (Based on the new Samsung K4A4G085WE-BCPB IC's for the overclockers that are interested). I've been able to Overclock the RAM to DDR4 4133Mhz 18-20-20-40 1T on 1.4V. I thought I'd show what the improved IPC and RAM speeds actually do for FSX performance. First of all I put it through the FSXmarkCPU test to show the pure IPC related improvements over previous architectures. If we disregard the furthest left Skylake result for now, we can see that Skylake gives a small 4% pure IPC improvement over Haswell, a 16% improvement over IvyBridge, a…

Very bad timing. My Alienware FS machine finally quit going to desktop. Just stops responding and requires a power down. It recently stopped rebooting and just stayed powered on (fan running) with no display or side LEDs (Aurora model). At the BIOS level, so I suspect system board. It's a decent machine, about two years old now. 3.4gHz 4900K series i7 CPU, liquid cooled, GTX680, SSD. Mulling over what to do. Part it out? Try replacing the mobo, CPU and video or just get a new jetline systems? I used to keep up with hardware but have lost touch over the years. This system is/was my primary FS system. Don't really have the money, but can't see doing i…

Hi everyone, I wanted to buy a new PC for Christmas. I would like to have a powerful PC, which can run some ' key ' add-ons (like the Aerosoft A320 or the Paris CDG scenery). I found this: http://m.rueducommerce.fr/Product/?id=P4S07EA Is this a good PC? Of course, it is a branded PC so it's components are maybe cheap and not very powerful but it still has an Intel Core i7 processor with a Nvidia GTX960 2Go graphic Card. Please let me know if it is good, Thanks a lot! Ps: Sorry, the website is in french. Here are the components if the Link is not working Dimensions ◦405cm x 165cm x 401cm • Type de processeur ◦INTEL Core i7 • Modèle du proc…

I am having some persistent but irregular issues with 'Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered', when using P3D3. One of the many issues related to this error is a problematic PSU. I have engaged 'HWMonitor' to check my voltages. At the time of the crash the min voltage was 11.808. Would this be considered too low to service my GPU (GTX 780) and therefore could be an issue related to the crash? My PSU is a Thermaltake DPS 850W Any assistance would be appreciated. Jock McIntyre

Hey fellow flight simmers, I'm wondering if it is time for me to upgrade from my crappy old laptop to a newer one, or even possibly a PC. Money is pretty tight, so it would have to be cheaper. Currently, I run fsx, flying with the PMDG 737-800, and the Majestic Dash-8. My current laptops stats: laptop is About 7 or 8 years old Toshiba 4 GB RAM Intel i3 @ 2.4GHZ 500GB SSD Windows 7 PMDG 737 framerates When around the airport, I get about 5FPS. When airborne, I get about 10-15FPS (In the virtual cockpit) Majestic Dash-8 When around the airport, 10-15FPS. When airborne, 25-35FPS. I'm looking at upgrading to either the 4790k or the newer 6600k. Which would be better for FSX. I'm upgrading from a I5-3570K and Nvidia 660, which have been pretty good but it's time for an upgrade.

  14. Just wanted to share my recent experience with Jetline Systems. A few months ago I started a generic thread here about purchasing an FSX rig and received a decent amount of feedback explaining how easy and cost effective it is to build one on your own. While I agree this is indeed true, I decided to steer away from buying hardware and building a rig of my own for a variety of reasons, mostly because I haven't had much free time on my hands. But rest assured, I acknowledge the cheapest route to building a rig is building one on your own. However, I was willing to pay extra to have one built properly, and boy was I glad I made that choice. I did my fair share of r…

Hi all. I'm changing all of my hard drives to give me a more organised and hopefully smoother system and i'm looking for advice on which to use on what software. I have a 240GB SSD, 1TB SSHD and 2x 500GB HDD. My plan was to use the SSD for windows, SSHD for Steam and FSX:SE and one of the others for music, photos and crap. Question is do I dump all of the add-ons on the SSHD along with steam and FSX:SE or should it go on the remaining drive? Some of my add-ons are downloaded from steam such as 4x VFR Scenery England. I don't know if that means it all has to stick together. All advice appreciated. Cheers Roy

Hello guys and gals. I have an issue with my three year old computer that's been annoying me for some months and has recently turned for the worse. I've built my computers since I was a teen but I have no idea what to do now (well.. I have an idea.. more on that later on in this soon-to-be-wall-of-text). Since I built it it's been working perfectly well. It's a 3770K with a 780GTX, 16gb RAM, 1 SSD and 2 HDD, the mob is a MSI m77 power. All is driven by a modular 850W PSU. It's running W7 ultimate. I haven't clocked it yet as I've not really needed it. Ok. So now the mysterious issue. It's sometimes showing me attitude by refusing to start. Push the power-button …

  19. I currently have the following specs on my PC: Motherboard: AsRock H97M Pro4 CPU: Intel i5-4690K overclocked to 4.4 GHz CPU Cooler: Cooler Master 120V Seidon GPU: Gigabyte GTX960 Windforce 2X 2GB RAM: PNY DDR3 16GB (4 x 4GB) @ 1333 MHz PSU: Corsair TX750 I recently purchased two sets of G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 RAM @ 2133 MHz. But I found out that my current motherboard only supports RAM clock speeds up to 1600 MHz. So I did some research and found a decently priced motherboard, which is the MSI Z97 PC Mate for $79.99 on Newegg. The question now is that should I keep the AsRock H97M Pro4 and try to overclock the RAM through the BIOS, or…

Hello, I've decided to buy myself a new GPU the other day. To run it however I need a more powerful power supply first, min 600W. Now I took a look inside and found that there are a bunch of cables going everywhere from the power supply (of course). I suppose you keep those cables plugged into all the components and connect them to the new power supply. I'm not sure though how to disconnect the cables from the old power supply. They go inside the power supply tied together as a whole. Could someone enlighten me please?

good afternoon all, it's that time in the life cycle, fsx is running well, but i am having some straining issues (loss of fluidity) in some of the more populated parts of fsx, ORBX NorCal, Chicago, New York, etc. Rather than buy a complete new system I want to upgrade my motherboard and the chip, as well as my video card, and as the title says I have permission from the finance minister (wife) to go to $1000. Hey there, So I finalized my PC upgrade and with the new cooler I thought I might try a bit of overclocking (i7-4790k). I used the standard 4,5 GHz settings from the ASRock Z97 BIOS and when running FSX-SE with some premium Add-Ons --> Aerosoft A320, FTX Global, ASN, EZdok, 50% Ultimate Traffic 2 settings (I'm using 50% UT2 just for testing since I switched to flying online, which would obviously give much less traffic). Anyway to the actualy question.... my CPU stays steady between 60-70°C when running FSX. Are those temperatures safe considering FSX (or other software) might run for several hours?? Or do I have to tune down the overclock? PS: IntelBurnTest w…
