Upgraded my system to ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger Z170 with Skylake 6700K & GTX 970. When I try to install the X52 pro, the installer hangs. Physically the system seems to have recognized the controller. However, I have to force shut down the installer. Strange things happen thereafter. I am not able to connect to the internet anymore and sometime the mouse is jerky and at times not recognised at all. At times the system is not able to connect to the internet too. Furthermore, the system does not shutdown but is stuck indefinitely at the windows "shutting down" screen. On restart the system is again stuck at the screen with the windows logo. However, when I…

Hi guys, Getting back into simming after a lengthy layoff. I last used FS2004, and never moved to FSX. I've decided now I want to move to P3D and I'm ready to build a new rig, but feel totally baffled by process. I went to best local PC shop and spoke to a guy who put a system together for me (based on what I know about P3D performance on CPUs/GPUs, which isn't much). He came up with a i7 5820k and a GTX 970. Motherboard is an MSI x99A SLI. Samsung EVO SSD, 8gb DDR4 3000mhz memory. I guess I can always upgrade the GPU, but I don't want to make a mistake on the CPU. I wasn't willing to spend enough for a 5960X, but I might be willing to go to a…

Using the ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger with Skylake 6700K & GTX970 with Win 7 64bit Tried installing the Saitek X52 Pro and have the following issues : During installation, after prompting for the controller to be connected, the driver installer hangs. There is no choice but to force shutdown the driver installer. With the lights on the controller on, it seems as though the controller is installed and on checking from devices and printers all the movements are active. However, when shutting down the system, it get stuck indefinitely at the windows "shutting down" page. I have no choice but to force shutdown the system. When I restart with the system with the …

My old Win 7 Home system started going down hill and finally would not start up. I took it to the shop and while there, broke down and brought home a new replacement. While this new computer is not at the very top of the performance list, it sure runs rings around my old system. (Q8400 ATI 4600 and 4 Gb DDR2) The new one is a i7 4790K 16Mb DDR3 and a GTX 980 on a Gigabyte MB and a 250 Gb Samsung SSD and a 2 Tb backup HD. The old case had 6 small cooling fans that were louder than a 747. The new case has 2 (120mm) that I cannot even hear. I have also been thinking about moving up to that P3D program from FSX but to my surprise, I am now seeing lots of scenery and effec…

Folks, Curious how much of a performance benefit there might be between a 4790K at 4.7ghz, or a 6700K at the same clock speed? Grateful for any feedback. I'm considering the move to P3D 3.1. Also, is a GTX 780 sufficient? Thanks in advance! Busdriver KPHL

  6. Hello, I just got a new PC, but I'm not satisfied with the performance on fsx se, I thought I would get better frames. I'm using the pmdg 737 on default scenery and I'm getting in Europe 20 fps average in the cockpit with mouse fps drop. I tried to make some tweaks, but the result was not better than the original cfg. Could someone please help me tweak the cfg, as bojotes tweaking tool went offline ? Well Santa has delivered early as my present to myself was an upgrade to my computer which was originally a Sandy Bridge 2500K @ 4.5 with DDR3 @ 2100. I went for a Skylake 6700K with Corsair Vengence DDR4 @ 3600 and the new Corsair GTX Water Cooler 110. I also swapped out 2 Samsung 1TB Hard Drives for 2 512 Samsung SSD's. I decided to keep my Nvidia 770GTX as I want to wait for the new Pascal architecture next year.. i run 3 x 17" monitors with a Triple Head 2 Go at 3840 x 1280. Sandy Bridge has always run very well and I run a modest FSX Steam Edition with PMDG 777/737 mainly some large payware airports etc but nothing has prepared me for the change I have just witne…

G'd morning, I'm going to upgrade my current system which is Z77 based i7-2700k. My plan is to retain the existing 980Ti/6GB and 2TB Samsung EVO. Here is the list of the things I'd like to add. 1. i7-6700k 2. ASUS Z170 Deluxe 3. Memory - definitely DDR4, but I need an advise for the brands and types. Like this one per the link below http://www.microcenter.com/search/search_results.aspx?Ntk=all&N=4294966965+4294863615+4294867069&myStore=false 4. Good reliable cooler for CPU 5. I still have 4-years old Corsair 1000W PSU. Do you think that perhaps it's time to replace it with a new one or I'm still ok to live with it for another 2-3 years? Than…

Hi folks, I've got 2 old 160gb IDE HDD that I'm thinking of installing into my new rig in addition to an SSD OS/FSX drive. I'm curious as to how I would go about this. I obviously need an IDE to SATA adaptor, could I run both off this adaptor if I use the original ribbon cable? I guess I would also need a SATA/molex adaptor to power the drives. Thanks for any advice

Last week I installed an 1TB SSD drive. I copied all of my files from the former Flight Sim drive to the SSD drive. Changed the drive letter of the SSD drive to "D" the drive letter of the original Flight Sim drive. Changed the former Flight Sim drive letter to "N". I was expecting to see a big increase in both load time and performance with FSX. I don't see any significant increase in either. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks. Bill

Hi everybody, I have been doing some research regarding computer parts and how to build a computer so I can build my own PC for P3D. I have made a list (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9rgRrH) of the parts that I think would be good in this PC. Due to my lack of computer knowledge and this being my first time building a PC, I am asking for any advice and/or comments to help finalize my list. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! -Kyle

  14. So I recently built a whole new Computer with i7-4790k and GTX960 and installed my copy of P3D plus several addons on it when then I noticed it framewise just didn't run as fast as I've seen on several YouTubers with almost the same specs. I figured that might be because they have overclocked to something like 4,6GHz to even 4,80GHz. I am really not liking the idea of overclocking my CPU mainly because my super cheap chassis wasn't made for that purpose yet I tried overclocking to 4,6GHz and to my surprise I got 2x more fps than before. I reduced the frequency to 4,5GHz and saw maybe 1-2 frames less but still very solid. Now I have it to 4,4GHz set and I see practically t…

I am looking at this SSD.... Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB,Internal,2.5" (MZ-75E500B/AM) Question. I have just build a new PC with the following components. AMD 4.2 GHZ Vishera CPU 8gb DDR3 1600 Ram NVidia EVGA 970 (pn#3975) So the question is. How much additional performance in terms of FPS and smoothness will a SSD get me. Currently with my system with all sliders at an average of 66% of max performance I am getting 28-34 FPS on FSX (non Steam) I have heard that SSD improve FPS and game performance. Is this True. I would be cloning my cuurent 1TB SATA drive. Thanks Randy

Hello everyone. I'm having some trouble finding what the problem is with my dad's "legacy" PC. He's running Windows 8.1 (with latest updates) on a 5 year old Asus P5QL -SE with a Core2 Duo E8400 processor and 4GB of DDR2 800 RAM (2 x 2Gb) by Kingston. This will be a bit long but please bear with me. Last week he decided to replace his old mouse with a Logitech cordeless mouse. When he got home he plugged the USB dongle on one of the two USB ports on the front of the case (the other USB port has also a dongle by Logitech but for a cordless keybord). He powered the PC and although there was disk activity for a minute or two the monitor did not "wake up". He …

Hello fellow simmers, I'm looking to get back to simming after a 10 year break. I've always followed up with the current flighsim news so I kinda know what I'll be running on my new rig. I've used to be able to find my way around the hardware that's right for my needs and within my budget, however, I think the market is flooded with overpriced and low quality products, therefore I need a bit help. I'm kinda old school, I value a fluid smooth flight experience than looking at the latest high res runway or tree textures. I don't use radar contact etc but I do fly online. I usually keep the mesh and cloud resolution at medium, but I'll be using active sky. I'll …

So what do you say lads, better up or down? This is one of those arguments that's raged for years, a bit like the positive or negative case pressure debate. I have to say, I'm totally against PSU fans facing down. There was a time, before the bottom mounted PSU trend, when PSU's were mounted at the top of the enclosure with fan orientated so it ingested air and vented it outside. Our PSU's got along just fine, they didn't overheat, the fans spun at the RPM you would expect and PSU lifespan wasn't compromised at all. Then along came the bottom mounted PSU trend, enclosure manufactures thought it would be a great idea if the PSU faced down and sucked in cool …

I have been running my system for the best part of 4 years now, most of the time without any problem. Asus P8Z68-V MB, i5 2500K OC @ 4.6ghz, MSI GTX770 4Gb GPU. However, for some reason that remains a mystery, I have been encountering a lot of BSODs recently. Nothing has changed, apart from the removal of 4 x 2gb sticks of RAM, with 2 x 8gb sticks. This was done to accommodate some video editing that I now need to use on the PC. I was always told that the 4 sticks are necessary so as to split across the 4 channels of the CPU (?) When i questioned the PC guy who looks after my machine, he said that it was not an issue and 2 sticks was just fine. He seemed quite adamant…

Hi all, I am going to being building a dedicated rig for my flight sim, right now I use FSX gold on my laptop. The only add on's I have is A2A 180 cherokee, iFly 737 and Active sky next. So as you see not a lot invested. My question and it's not really a what's better P3d or FSX but if you had to start from scratch which would you choose. Just wondering if with not a lot invested P3d would be the way to go. Thanks, Ed M.

I have really neglected the sound on my FS rig using a very old sound setup that I think a relative gave me years ago. Its probably 20 years old (maybe thats a good thing). I have invested in a nice headset for FS2Crew and Vatsim (Logitech G930 Wireless). I hear PMDG and others talk about the amazing sounds of their addons but really don't experience it in my sim. So the question is what are you guys using for sound systems? Going with 2.1 or 5.1 ?

Hello, Allow me to do a bit of ‘brain picking’ among the more computer literate in the community. Since a few weeks I’m experiencing computer shut-downs at random intervals. The shut-down looks like a sudden power failure. Black screen, no restart, no BSOD. It can happen during a flight, but also without FS running, After some exploration, I discovered that the phenomenon is not uncommon, however the causes can be various, according to the messages in all sorts of forums. Hence I checked possible causes and took a number of measures: Checked temperatures of CPU and GPU; nothing out of the ordinary. Cleaned out the case. Performed a disk check (chkdsk/f); nothing wro…
