I am OC'ing an i7 2700K with an ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z motherboard. I've never been into OC'ing before and am doing a moderate OC @ 4.5GHz. Temps are all fine during 3 hrs of Prime 95, but what puzzles me after reading up on the subject after the fact is that I run with a pretty low voltage, just 1.250V. There seems to be a common conseption that 1.35V is needed for a stable 4.4-4.6GHz OC on the Sandy Bridge chips. My question is this: Can I run into trouble using such a low voltage, or doesn't it really matter? Lower voltages will give lower temps, but are there any downsides?

Since new P3D V3 looks promising I have decided to upgrade my current PC which is.: I7 2600K @ 4.2 Ghz GTX 680 8GB DDR-III But with this PC that I currently have ,P3D fails to perform with High end addons like - PMDG,ASN,REX4.I get about 20 FPS and addons airports it's as less as 12-15 ) So after watching youtube videos on new RIGs where P3D V3 performs much better My new Upgrad shall be I7 4970K GTX980 (4GB) 16GB RAM However I still doubt if I upgrade , It(FPS) will not be siginificantly improved. I have a 4+ y/o SB-E system and 4 drives. 3 of the 4 drives are completely separate, isolated bootable Win 7 drives. I get to them by using F8 to bring up ASUS BIOS boot drive popup during boot up. Prepar3D is on an SSD, FWIW, games and web browsing on it's own drive, and a complete clone of the P3D SSD. Here's what is now happening as of this morning: 1. Gets thru POST and allows me to hit the F8 key to bring up the boot drive popup. 2. No matter which of 3 boot drives I select, I always get display of, 'Windows has encountered an error during shutdown.....Start Windows normally? Safe Mode, etc. EACH of these 3 completely isolated drives does the exact same …

Hi there, Following my previous post asking for some help to choose parts for a new build, I ordered an i5 6600K with ASUS Z170i Gaming MOBO and MSI GTX970 Gaming, and the others parts needed. As this is my 1st build ever, I am currently looking for maximum informations about building computer in anticipation. But I lack some informations about the drivers installation part of the build. If I understand well, my MOBO should come with a CD on which I will find all the drivers needed. But, it is advised not to use them, but rather go to motherboard manufacturer website and download the last versions. That's what I did but there are lots of them and I do not know…

Hi all, I am thinking about buying this setup: AMD FX 8350 8-core 8x4.0ghz Gigabyte FX990 GeForce GTX 960 2gb Coolermaster B600 (600 watt) Coolermaster Hyper 103 cooler The system price would be 724 euro.. I have a couple of SSD`s that i would build into this system and i would use Windows 7 64 bit as the OS So how would FSX perform on this setup, with mostly medium settings? Thanks in advance

Arvo all, I used to play FS9 religiously and FSX when it first came out, I haven't played either in years and years, and right now only have a Macbook Pro! I want to get back into using FSX, as its been such a long time since I played (maybe 2009?) - I have no idea what kind of rig it needs to run it well. Essentially what I'm after is basic specs of a machine that can run it on mostly full settings, that can handle the demanding add ons including during poor weather. The machine would be used only for simming. Also, what OS do people run for FSX? Cheers!

This forum was very helpful when I built my second computer a few years ago so I'm back looking for more help. I have held off waiting to see how P3Dv3 would run on my gear. The results were interesting. With a default aircraft, scenery and weather I could move the sliders way up and still get a jitter free 60+fps. If I loaded a BIG aircraft, payware airport and nice clouds my system choked until I moved everything way back down. Here is what I have now. I'm finally looking to upgrade my rig after having (just recently) become hooked on FSX. After flirting with P3D (meh) for about a month, I took the opportunity of having a clean install of FSXSE to run FSXMark11. My average of 16fps was the final straw, I'm going to intel. Right now I'm running an A6 6400K at 4.5ghz. For reference, here are most of the addons I use, Quality Wings 757 Active Sky Next Megascenery earth (a few regions I frequent, not sure if I'm going to keep using it) Traffic 360 I will definitely be adding on payware airports to my collection, once I have some other things added to my library. Also, I will most likely be picking up the PMDG 737 eventu…

  12. Hello everyone. I have some questions for you. It is about hardware for FSX. So, let's start. My CPU is an i7 4790k, right now at 4.1GHz with a CM Hyper 212EVO. My video card is a GTX 970 by Asus Strix. And I have 16GB of RAM. The question: which is the best CPU cooler to overclock the i7 4790k at 4.6GHz ? I saw that it is the best option and I really need it because I am loaded with addons like REX4 and many sceneries. Btw, my case is a Cooler Master N500 which can fit a cooler with up to 162mm height. I have read good things about the Noctua NH-D14. Is it ok for 4.6Ghz? I can afford it and my case supports it. Thank you

  13. Hello everyone, I am new in AVSIM Online and I signed up, because I wanted to get involved with a flight simulation community. Unfortunately, my experience on AVSIM Online begins with asking your help for a problem. First of all, let me write my PC specs: -i7 4790k CPU cooled by a -CoolerMaster Hyper 212EVO -Asus Strix GTX970 -Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H -16GB Kingston HperX Fury RAM -CoolerMaster G750 750W PSU The problem: I believe that my PC is appropriate for FSX. My idle state CPU temp is average 40*C, which I have read is ok. My temps while playing a requiring game(ex.Assassin's Creed:Syndicate) are around 60*C. Those temps may look normal to you. I have read …

Hello, I'm considering an upgrade from my 3570k running at 4.5 to a 6600k. With appropriate MB and RAM. I should get my new GTX 970 in the next few days to help with AA settings and overall image quality. Would this processor upgrade be worth it? Only using FSX steam with DX 10. Thanks

My GPU, a Zotac GTX750Ti 2GB was returned because it was faulty, I got a replacement the other day and installed it, the FPS is now worse then integrated, the performance of the 750 before I had to return it was running considerably well, I`ve noticed in my FSX settings windows there is two entries GTX750Ti: GTX750Ti 0.0 GTX750Ti 0.1 The second entry didn't exist when I had the original card, so I don`t understand why this is happening. I never uninstalled the drivers from the original 750 and after I got the replacement I installed the latest drivers again, so could the system be detecting that there is 2 sets of drivers involved? Thanks in advance

Well, the new rig is finished!!! It's built as follows: i5 6600k 8GB Gskill 5 3000 (8 more on the way) Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming Samsung 500GB SSD Corsiar CX 600 PSU Seagate 2TB 7200 RPM So far it runs WAY better than the old unit. It can hit over 80 fps here and there. With ORBX socal, ASN with low clouds and haze in souther california the fps can get down there a bit, into the 20s. I have to play with the setting and see how things pan out but as it is it's lightyears ahead of the old system. Recommendations on P3D setting are welcomed. Wanted to share a photo for everyone as the community had a great deal of input into the unit. Thank…

Hi all I'm considering just upgrading my graphics card from the one originally installed when the pic was built for me. It's a 512MB Geforce 8800GT PCI Express so probably wise to go to a 1gb card now, but not being that tech savvy and having an extended break from the sim can anyone suggest a suitable alternative / upgrade for me? Really want to don't want to invest too heavily on the hardware (even software) but I think the graphics card is the weakest link in my setup. I have a pretty advance FS9 setup but am getting a cheap FSX copy to have a little play around with so want to make sure my pic can run it with some Addams eventually. Here are my…

My current setup consists of a 120GB SSD for Windows and General progs, and a 250GB SSD for simming (also have a 3TB standard 7200 HDD for other general gaming). Found out quickly how fast that can fill those 250GB, so I just spring for a bit 1TB SSD. Question is: are there any add-ons that see a benefit in installing them on a separate drive than that of the sim itself?

For FSX I used to use 2 separate HDD's. 1 for FSX and most addon's and 1 dedicated for mesh (FS Global 2010) and some photo scenery. Though being that 1 HDD would be strained too much to provide all data at a time. For P3D until now I use the same philosophy. However I'm at the verge of upgrading my system, including an SSD. I am wondering if P3D would benefit in any way if again I would spread P3D and mesh over 2 separate drives. Basically I either put 2 SSD's in my system (1 for Windows + regular programs and 1 for P3D + addon's) or 3 SSD's meaning an additional one for mesh + photo. Needless to say I'd prefer not to spend money on additional SSD's if I don't have …

My PC runs Windows 7 x64 and is basically an Asus H97I+ M/b, I7-4790K CPU & GTX970 GPU. There are two SSDs for hard drives... Whenever I am running FS9 I get a strange, high-pitched 'chirping' noise from what should be a silent PC, fans apart. After Googling I kind of decided it was coil whine from the GPU: http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/GeForce-GTX-970-Coil-Whine-Concerns but having opened up the case and listened more closely (literally) the noise seems to be coming more from the CPU. If so, what could it be? Pretty sure it's not mechanical (i.e. fans). Oddly, as I say, I don't get the noise other than when I run FS. I tried stress testing …

Hi all, Quick question. My SSD (P3D + OS) is near capacity. If I was to use Junction Link Magic to move some of my addon scenery to my HDD (E Drive) what impact would this have on the sim directly? Would it only be the initial load times that are slowed? Actual real time sim play (FPS/textures) would be ok. I was planning to try this with ORBX Regards, Dom
