Hi guys I fly mainly P3D ver 3.2. I currently have a Intel Core i5 3570K @ 3.40GHz (overclocked to about 4.0GHz), 8GB of DDR3 and a GTX970. I am considering updating to a 6700K with a new MB and 16GB of fast DDR4 ram and keeping my GTX970. It would probably cost me around $1,000 Aussie dollars. My question, does anyone think it is worthwhile to spend the money to get a smoother sim or would I be better off keeping my hard earned in my wallet. Many thanks for any help. John

I have an i7-3770k current OC at 4.5GHz, I was going to try and see if I can get it up to 4.7GHz. Do you think I would get a noticeable improvement in P3D/X-Plane? Core voltage is around 1.256v. I have 16GB of DDR3 Ram @ 1600mhz. Multiplier set to 45, bus speed at 100mhz. Thinking about changing the multiplier to 47 and maybe increasing the core voltage to 1.3v.

I would like to know if there's a big noticeable difference in performance and speed by having games, or flight sims such as P3D and X-Plane on SSD vs traditional HDD. If there's a big and noticeable difference then I will look into purchasing a 1TB SSD for both Xplane and P3D. Right now, the only SSD I have is 128GB, and that's for my main Windows 7 operating system. I am also upgrading my system memory from 16GB to 32GB, primarily for X-Plane so I can use UHD Mesh and extended DSF. Don't think it would make any difference for P3D though. And lastly, I think I will also be upgrading to a GTX 1080 card to replace my GTX 680. I really want the best performance …

Which one should i get? The 6700k with higher clock, or the newer 6850k? I use my rig for P3D, Xplane, and Photoshop. GPU will be a GTX1080.

It is time to move past my AMD days. My current specs are below. I have decided I want a better FSX SE and P3D experience, my current system will let me fly somewhat smooth with PMDG and 3rd party scenery at the cost of detail and any ability to add on clouds, traffic and other add on products. I just cant enjoy most of what these platforms provide. So here is what I am building Asus Z170-P MOBO 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4 Cooler Master,212 EVO CPU Cooler 1TB Seagate HD 7200rpm 64MB Windows 7 64Bit.....................................Will upgrade to Windows 10 before the end of July. Would this do me any good or am I wasting my money? I am currently using X-Plane 10.50 and P3D. Also after I install the additional 16GB memory modules, will Windows auto detect it and I'm good to go, or do I need to tinker with system settings? I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit btw.

I have been browsing the forum for a while and reading your advice on system builds and wanted to give feed back on your tips and information from mine. I just built an i7 6700k, GTX 1080, Windows 10 Pro (decided to upgrade on it's own late at night. I guess as the PC's owner I don't have a say  ) and 32GB of G.Skill ram. The improvements in Prepar3d v3.3 are absolutely mind blowing. With a fresh install no add on's I saw an average of 100 FPS ground/air. I loaded up the new Aerosoft's Frankfurt, Prepar3d Sliders midway to high, HIFI, ASN, PMDG 777, ORBX Global and Vector and was getting an average FPS of 60-70. I could have never hoped in my life I would s…

It's been about 3.5 years that I built my PC. It was powerful at the time, and I still think it's holding up quite well currently too with all the modern day games like Doom, Overwatch, etc. I've been thinking about upgrading my graphics card to an EVGA GTX 1080 FTW version to replace my EVGA GTX 680 FTW. I really can't afford to build an entirely new system. If I could, I definitely would go that route. I'm currently running an i7-3770k overclocked to 4.5Ghz with 16GB RAM (soon to be 32GB). Do you think my system will benefit from upgrading my memory from 16GB to 32GB and getting a new graphics card? Or should I save my money and just build a new system later o…

I want to update my current system which is an i7-3770k with GTX 680. Is it possible for me to replace the cpu only for something new, as long as the new CPU will fit on my motherboard? If this is possible, I rather go this route than building an entirely new PC from scratch. What CPU can you guys recommend that's good that will replace my i7-3770k and will be able to do a direct swap? I was looking at the i7-6700k, but will I see a big increase in performance by going with this CPU? Or is there a better CPU that I'm unaware of.

Hi All, Been away from FS for a couple years and wondering how hardware has evolved. Specifically, what will I need in today's hardware market to meet my needs as I'm itching to get back into FS. So, in the past I ran PMDG 737, some Orbyx Scenery's, FSDT Airports . I always used freeware weather engines which were fine for me and didn't bog my old system down ( FSRealWX). I like world of AI and would like to use it again. I'll stick with FSX for right now but would like to leave my options open to jump into P3D at some point. My old system was very antiquated, even back then. I was running an I-7 870 processor and an AMD 1gb GPU. I still managed to get in the mid- h…

I found this site which was recommended as providing great deals on all computer parts and they also sell a few built gaming desktops. This one below all looks fantastic. I would sell the graphics card instantly though and purchase a 980 or 1070 and also need to ask someone who works there what the deal is with the motherboard because it doesn't show one in the specs. Other than that, does this look like a good setup to have to run P3D? http://www.microcenter.com/product/457257/Predator_AG6-710-70001_Desktop_Computer Thanks!

Hey guys and girls! I'm in the process of recommending parts for a friend of mine who wants a new flight sim pc. He is not on unlimited funds, so I'm trying to make this as good as possible without ruining him. I found the gfx card to be the most tricky. The 980 havent come down in price yet, and so we are left with the 1070 in the same price range. The 1080 are a bit too high to be affordable. Please take a look at this list and tell me what you think. Am I missing something obvious, or do you have any other advice for us I would be truly grateful https://www.komplett.no/wishlists/7d0c2a89-8dd3-46c3-be59-663cfe3fa32f

Hi, I have an MSI GE62-6QE: Intel i5 Quadcore 2.3Ghz - 3.2Ghz (6300HQ) / NVIDIA GTX 965M 2GB GDDR5 / 8GB RAM DDR4 / 1 TB HDD Now I have a chance to pay more 100€ and get this HP: Intel I7 Quadcore 2.6Ghz - 3.5Ghz (6700HQ) / NVIDIA GTX 950M 4GB DDR3 / 8GB RAM DDR3L (which I don't know what's the difference) / 128 GB SDD and 1TB HDD Basically, everything seems better, except for the GPU. For Prepar3D, will the HP have better performance than the MSI, being that it has a lower GPU but higher CPU? (I'm also a little concerned about the brands, HP vs MSI in "gaming" (I know it's not gaming but you unterstand))

Hello everyone, I was hoping some of you might be able to comment on my recent OC - I'm mainly looking pointers on potential improvement. So a quick run down of my system specs. Hello! This is my first post here at AVSIM, so sorry if I shouldn't post this in this thread, feel free to remove it if necessary. I am using P3D v3.2 right now, but with my current rig (i7 2600 3,4 GHz, GTX 960, 8 GB RAM) I'm struggling to even get 20 FPS inside clouds and in big airports with payware aircraft. I also get tons of blurries and microstutters. I've been planning on upgrading my PC since some time, and I finally think it's time to do so. My question is, would I manage to get 30 FPS in let's say, Aerosoft Madrid using an i7 6700k and a GTX 980? Is this PC (http://tiendas.mediamarkt.es/p/pc-gaming-lenovo-ideacentre-y900-34isz-1317733) overprice…

Well, a Zotac AMP Edition 1070 has mysteriously appeared in my case Just had a quick play on p3d, with orbx, rex, asn etc out of Manchester flying the Aerosoft A320, using the same settings as my 970. Was absolutely rock solid, no stutters, anything. Will have a play over the weekend and report back, looks like a very worthwhile upgrade.

Hi, There are always questions and opinions as to what PC equipment combinations are best for flying Flight Simulation programs. It is, in my opinion, a good idea for us to objectively evaluate the performance levels and characteristics of different equipment combinations on an ongoing basis. Since we seem to be splintering in multiple flight simulation platforms, operating systems and add-on programs, I suggest we look for objective middle ground that both tests raw performance, and stipulates specifications and settings Therefore I suggest we use the free 3dMark11 Basic test program to compare CPU and GPU outcomes. Naturally, each system combination will pr…

Hey guys, so I have been having USB problems in another thread I created, upon further research with ASUS they determined it was a motherboard hardware issue. They are starting the advanced RMA process to ship me another mobo. It will be the same model, the ROG VIII Hero. My question is, about licenses on the pc right now. Windows 10 activation, P3D activation, FSDT etc. I got Win 10 off my Windows 7 key and am really not sure whats going to happen when the PC sees the new hardware ID. Any advice?
