Hi all, I've just pulled the trigger and ordered some parts to start building my B737 home cockpit. While waiting for parts to arrive, I have to build my main PC which will be used for P3D, add-ons and ProSim. I'm leaning towards the following hardware: Case: Cooler Master Mastercase5 M/B: Asus ROG Maximus VIII Impact CPU: i7 6700K 4 GHz RAM: G.Skill RipjawsV (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3200 MHz GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 PSU: Corsair 650 W 80+ Gold CS650M Modular Cooler: Corsair Hydro H80i GT SSD 1: Samsung 750 EVO 120 GB (for OS only) SSD 2: Samsung 750 EVO 250 GB (for P3D, add-ons, ProSim) My questions: I will overclock the CPU to 4.5 - 4.6 GHz. Is the cooler enough to handle it…

Hello folks, I just recently bought an ASUS G752VY and have these specs: i7-6700HQ @ 2.60Ghz, but pretty much always run at 3.2Ghz Nvidia GTX 980M 32GB RAM Windows 10 64-bit Now, this isn't top line, I know. I just want to know if this is normal and maybe get some suggestions. I was running PMDG 777, Orbx Global + Vector at FSDT CYVR with Orbx Weather 5. Here are my settings in FSX: LOD Radius: Large (untweaked) Mesh Complexity: 60 Mesh Resolution: 2m (for 3D taxiway etc.) Texture Resolution: 15cm (for 3D taxiway etc.) Water Effects: High 2.x (for use with Bufferpools) Land Detail Textures: ticked Scenery Complexity: Normal Autogen De…

Currently have a ASRock Z77. Windows 10 with August 31 update. I have had a few strange lockups and suspect the motherboard since it is several years old. The CPU is a i5-2500K 4.3ghz overclocked. 8gb DDR3 ram. Because I am not needing the very latest I want to stay with the i5-2500K. Price target less than $200. Looking for reliability and overclocking.

I would appreciate some recommendations in re guards to up grading the current system listed below. The I7 4930K has a bad I.M.C. (Intel Memory Controller) and needs to be replaced with a I7 4960X. This system is used for P3D v3.5 & FSX. A new I7 4960X rather than building a new LGA 1151 with a I7 6700K? Current P3D & FSX settings are set very high and both sims run smoothe as silk with complicated aircraft with the I7 4930K at 4.4GHz. LGA 1151 limited to one GPU installed at 16x. If 2 GPUs are installed 8X. Current system LGA 2011 both GPUs run at 16x. LGA 2011 and LGA 1151 has PCIe 3.0 I7 6700K has 4 Cores compared to the I7 4960X has 6 cores. Th…

I have six years of FSX bits and pieces, with probably getting close to 100 airports with dozens of sceneries, meshes, aircraft etc etc. The last time I had to do a complete reinstall it took me the best part of three weeks! I'm in the throws of deciding on a new upgrade and have decided on a new Asus motherboard twinned with the Skylake 6700 CPU. My question is, is there any way I can backup my entire installation with Acronis and reinstall without any issues, or is this not possible with having a different motherboard? Can anyone offer some advice. Thanks fellas.

Good evening simmers! First of all, I'm totally new to this forum so please correct me if I do something against the rules or place this topic in the wrong forum! I appreciate any help! I recently have got my computer and flight sim gear back out and dusted off to have a go. I love realism and normally have my setting to the max! However I've never been able to set my water (sea) setting to max as it then makes my FPS decrease dramatically! I have a PC and Im not sure of the specs but know my graphics card was a Nvidia Not sure on the rest of the details. I was just wondering if you guys could possibly share your PC Specs and what kind of settings you …

My build: Z68Pro3, i52500K OC'd to 4.2Ghz, GTX770 4GB, 16GB DDR3, 720W PSU My intentions: Firstly upgrade video card (probably to 1080) and get 4K monitor. Eventually invest in VR headset. My gaming: Sims (DCS/IL2 COD / Stalingrad / Moscow / XP10), Elite Dangerous, FPS, GTAV, Witcher etc. My Questions: 1) My MOBO and CPU are getting old but tbh they still seem to do the job well. Can I get away with keeping them and still run a 4K monitor and then VR headset if I replace the video card? 2) Kind of part of question 1, but is the i5 likely to be a bottleneck for a 1080? 3) 1080s still seem to be pretty pricey. Are they likely to come down in price in…

Good evening simmers! (Amsterdam Time) First of all, I'm totally new to this forum so please correct me if I do something against the rules or place this topic in the wrong forum! I appreciate any help! Ever since I was a teenager I was fascinated by aviation and playing Microsoft's Flight Simulator was therefore one of the things that I did the most in my spare time. However, I always did this on my father's computer which always seemed to handle this software pretty well. Now 5 years later, I'm a college student, moved out and got a new laptop and my fascination for flight simulation is back.. However, my new laptop can't handle FSX pretty well (low fps, cra…

Hello, bit of a stupid question perhaps but I don't have much knowledge about this and I need to be sure. I currently own an i7 2600 and I want to upgrade to an i7 6700K. Now the CPU socket my motherboard has is an LGA1155 and Intel says LGA1151 on the 6700K page. Am I right to assume I would have to change my motherboard to be able to use a 6700K?

I'm certainly not a newbie, but I've been a little absent from FSX for the past twelve months. As such, I am out of touch a little and need some advice on an upgrade. I have toyed about with the idea of P3D , but you know, if I can get some reasonable increase in performance, maybe 30%, I will be perfectly happy with FSX. I currently run an overclocked Sandy Bridge 2500 @ 4.4Mhz, have a GTX 770 4Gb with 16Gb RAM. FSX and Win 7 are on separate SSDs, I have no inclination or time to overclock and so am interested in buying a pre OC bundle from Overclockers UK. Am I right in thinking that the new Skylake series of CPUs would be a good bet. Perhaps not, maybe an i7 4790? I wo…

Hi all! For a while, I've been having FPS issues in Prepar3D, but I always assumed it was caused by my low-end graphics card. So when I upgraded to a 1080 I was hoping that I would see an increase in performance... I had no such luck. Today during a flight with the Aerosoft Airbus I was getting 8-10 fps in the cruise, and that was essentially the last straw for me. I was hoping some of you would know how to help with these issues. Important Computer Specs: CPU: AMD FX-8350 clocked at 4.4 GHz GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 SC RAM: 16 GB Addons: Aerosoft Airbus ORBX Global REX Soft Clouds Active Sky 16 Thanks, MESSpace

Hello, I was approaching FlyTampa's Toronto an hour ago when my FPS dropped to a new low on final, giving me a number of ... 8. I launched MSI Afterburner to see what was going on and noticed my GPU (980ti) was at about 40% while the CPU1 usage was going through the roof. Overall CPU usage was pretty high but most of the work seemed to be coming from CPU1. Now I'm wondering why there's so much load on CPU1 while the other cores have significantly lower loads. Also I thought P3D wasn't as CPU-bound as FSX? I have an i7 2600 at 3.4.

Hello, I'm contemplating an upgrade from my i5 2500k (OC to 4.5ghz). I've been reading through this forum but can't seem to find a concensus on whether the 6700k is worthwhile over the 6600k for p3d. Reading other gaming forums and reviews the answer seems to be no, but knowing how much more cpu-bound p3d is than most games I'm taking those forums with a grain of salt. I've read on this forum that the 6700k is what most simmers building new rigs are choosing, but then I also read that the 6700k is overkill, p3d doesn't make use of HT etc. Any thoughts? I can afford either, but I don't want to spend the extra on the 6700k if the difference in p3d performance is min…

Hi all, So turns out that shipping my Sandy Bridge system (had to do a transoceanic move) damaged the motherboard and GPU, at a minimum, and no video cards will run in the still-working PCIE slots at higher than x1. Bummer. I built the system in 2011, so I guess it was about time for a ground-up rebuild anyway! At least that's what I'm telling myself... I'd love comments on my proposed (re)build here. I'm mostly starting from scratch, but I'm reusing the asterisked components below that don't seem to have any problems. The video card is new (was hoping it would work in the old system...it did, but only at x1) but the other asterisked components are from 2011. None…

Hey! I currently run P3D v3 on a rig with an AMD FX 8350. My frames and/or smoothness aren't great, and I was considering the jump to an i7-2600K. I'm not looking for some crazy 40fps or 60fps, but being able to lock at 20 or 25 would make me more than happy. Listed below are my current specs and the addons I run. Greetings chaps. Finally managed to get my PC built. Fired up and nothing. Motherboard green LED is on, Asus pulasting LED does it's thing, the EVGA GTX 980Ti illuminates for a spilt second, and the CPU fan spins for a split second... and then nothing. Second attempt to boot, nothing at all, not even the brief CPU fan spins up. If I switch off at the wall for a few minutes and hit it again, same as first scenario, CPU fan brief spin up then nothing.. Tried reseating everything, tried clearing the CMOS, still nothing. Tried one stick of RAM at a time, still nothing. Tried no 980 Ti still happens. Any ideas would be welcome. Anybody had something similar…

http://tinyurl.com/xcvtip0985 331765733964 eBay auction number. Got this exact laptop from this exact seller on eBay: Adorama, free shipping. Runs FSX real well. Have the sliders about 3/4 max, everything but shadows, and also using lightest cloud covering. Runs at 25 fps locked in heavy scenery , (default Seattle at Boeing Airport) smooth as can be. It just arrived tonight by UPS, just now installed FSX Acceleration. Other brands of dense scenery are probably not going to do as well as Microsoft's however. Still, I am well satisfied this is great for a back up system to travel with: 17" laptop because... it never quits or shuts down due…

For my new build which I'm pretty close to deciding on everything on the last piece of the puzzle is the graphics card. I've been trying to get an EVGA GTX 1060 but they are either never in stock or at a huge markup. The 960 prices look to be steadily dropping and newegg has them at $150 right now with a rebate. From a purely FSX perspective, is there that much of a difference between the two? Looking at reviews and youtube videos the 1060 does consistently perform better, but those seem to be more for games that aren't reliant purely on the CPU like FSX is. Plus, I won't have to play the lottery to try to get my hands on a 1060. Thoughts? Edit: Or I could go wi…

In some discussion with Rob A, I'm trying to narrow down which CPU to use in my new build. Keep in mind there's only going to be P3D and FSX as the major players on my machine. Rob made the good point that 6700k wastes space with an on-chip graphics processor, and the LGA 2011-v3 processors have 15mb of L3 cache. The 5930k has 6 cores, and compared to the 6700k- the additional cores are helpful if you use 3rd party programs on the same machine. I thought I was set on the 5930K- but now I'm seeing that there's a 6850k? 5930K L3: 15mb L2: 6x 256 Clock: 3.5 - 3.7 (turbo) 6 Cores 6850K 3.6 -3.8 (turbo) 6 Cores L3: 15mb This machine will be pa…

I've never used pcpartpicker before, but it looks to be very helpful on viewing compatibilities... http://pcpartpicker.com/list/K4C3tJ My concerns: 6700k vs 6850k system... Originally, I went at this thinking, 6850k (Broadwell-E) is the latest, so get that. Luke and I were discussing gains, if any, of getting the 6850k (and resulting X99 motherboard). I'm not on a budget, but I'm also not looking to be that person that notices "oh look, I gained 3 FPS by paying twice as much!" Benchmarks concerning FSX/P3D are somewhat spotty for the 6850k, but very certain run well on 6700k. Here's a benchmark that puts the 6700k up to the newer broadwell chips, and there…

Hi All, Haven't had a new machine since well before P3D was released. My old machine died a quick and painless death so I was left with my laptop with an I7 4th gen 4500U at 1.6 GHz 2 core with a max turbo of 3.0 GHz and an Nvidia 745M. P3D v3 actually runs well as long as the settings are fairly low. At any rate here is my new machine. Intel 6700k @ 4GHz 8 GB DDR4 @ 2666GHz ASUS Z170 Mobo 600W PS GE Force GTX1060 8GB Air cooled Think it will run P3D v3 well? I'm at my budget limit and the parts are ordered. Thanks
