Hey everyone. Sorry to bore you with my boring "which is better" questions, but I need a second opinion in this case. 1.An older Intel i3 (about 7 years old) at 2.4GHz (actually runs fsx quite well) 2.A 6th gen Intel i5 at 2.3GHZ. Both computers are/will be running intel integrated graphics. 1. Has 4GB of ram, but it will be used ONLY for fsx, pmdg 737, and ASN. No other programs/add-ons will be run. 2. Has 8GB of ram, but will be running fsx, PFPX, PMDG737, ASN, and it will have all my other downloaded programs on it. So, which do you think will run (ms)fsx better? 1 or 2? Thanks for taking the time to read through my boring schpiel

Browsing through the SSDs to get for the new build, I'm seeing there are these M.2 drives- and consequently the ASRock x99 Extreme6 has an M.2 slot. My question concerns my research: Popping this Samsung http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W03H16430 Into the ASrock... is it possible? I was told to look for the size (2280 etc), as well as the type of connector- but I have yet to find info for either to make sure they are compatible. I intend to use it as an OS/FSX drive, with a separate SSD for storage.

Hello guys! I am going to build a PC with a friend of mine and need some help with the parts I need to order. What I was thinking about was getting myself a decent 900 pound PC (since that is my budget). What I want to know is basically what sort of performance I may expect with the setup bellow with regards to FPS rates and graphics in both FSX:SE and P3D while using ORBX/general payware products. Furthermore, I was thinking about overclocking the i5 to ca 4 GHz, but have not done it before. What sort of components would I need and are there some good overclocking tutorials for that said processor. Do I even need to overclock it? Cost: 969,67 pounds/1290,10 USD/1290…

I'm starting to make plans for a PC and looking at the cases, I noticed this one- an all-in-one water cooling system. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811853032 I was planning on just getting a mid-ATX style case and eventually throwing a corsair H100i V2 on the CPU for cooling... but would this be a better option?

My Current PC with my home cockpit is 3 years old... It's not bad.. I get 30FPS in remote Islands and 13-20 in most other areas... I thought of waiting for the next CPU Kaby Lake.... But gave in and So decided on a new build Just placed the order for the following. Iam leaving my current PC as is for the most part but salvage an older PC for the new build. 1) i7 6700K ($350 2) ASUS Z170-A LGA 1151 Intel Z170 ($134) 3) G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3400 (PC4 27200) ($104) 4) PNY CS1311 2.5" 240GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) ($63) for my OS 5) Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit, System Builder OEM…

Starting to look at building my first custom computer, and virtually all the games I run are going to be fine with the following configuration, but I just want confirmation on FSX/P3D/Xplane. I don't own P3D or Xplane yet, but I do have FSX+Acceleration and FSX Steam Edition. So, the idea would be: i5 6600K ASUS Z170 mobo 16 Gigs DD4 RAM GTX 970 video card The two areas that seem like a potential issue to get the best performance from flight sims are obviously the processor and video card, but is it worth spending an extra $120 or so on an i7 6700K, and probably another $250 or more on a 1070 card? Am I really going to get significantly more FPS out of th…

I've been trying to do as much reading as I can. I used to be huge into FS about 10 years back, but haven't done it since. This was back in the FS2004 days when I built a PC for it. Now, it seems so much has changed and the scenery for FSX and P3D looks amazing. My goal is to build a PC for around $1000 that can run complex scenery and A/C with sliders near the top. I can obviously make some cuts if I need to since I know a 1k build isn't likely to be able to max the sliders out. I already have a monitor, as well as Windows so that will save some cost (at least I believe my Windows key will work on another computer). Here's the hardware I'm looking at based on the …

So I currently have a i7 4790 and thinking about upgrading it to a i7 6700k. So to do so I believe I need a new motherboard also to go along with the cpu; as a 6700k will not fit in a 4790 slot?? With that being said is it as easy as switching the motherboard and cpu, plug my hard drive back in, then good to go as normal? Or is there something more to it? I do not really want to go through the process of having to buy or install windows again and I don't have any discs. I am hoping it is a simple process to upgrade. __________________________________________ UPDATE: Disregard. I found a youtube video which has instructions. Basically I just go into windows …

Hi, I am about to invest in some new hardware for my homecockpit running P3Dv3 and PMDG B737NGX. My question : Can I expect any improvements in FPS, smoothness, loading times of textures when going to an I7 [email protected] from an i7 [email protected] including the motherboard and memory changes. I will also update my motherboard to an Asus Z170 Pro Gaming with 16gb DDR4@3000 from an Asus P8P67 Pro with 8 gb DDR3@1600. My Asus GTX 780 Strix OC will still be used after the change to i7 6700K. Smoothness and loading times are the most important issues. I have monitors running 1920x1080. I am very happy with the I7 2600K solution I have today, but it a…

I recently installed my new GTX1070 & I7 4790K and I am a little disappointed that I haven't seen a massive improvement. I definitely think the graphics are a lot crisper and sharp however my FPS only seems to be about 6 FPS more in places like New York and Seattle which always taxed my old setup. I've noticed that looking on task manager thread 1 seems to be maxed out and the other 7 seem to register hardly anything. Should I add the affinity mask CFG tweak maybe?

Hi Guys, I'll try to keep it short. Basically I would like to upgrade my current PC instead of building a new one from scratch to cut down on cost but I need some help with choosing the right components. The main reason for the upgrade is to improve my FSX performance. I don't play anything else, so please keep that in mind. Here's what I have: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit mobo: ASUSTek CM5570 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00Ghz RAM: 8.00Gb DDR2 @ 400MHz Graphics: NVIDIA Quatro FX 580 512Mb SSD 55GB (with FSX on it) HDD 596Gb HDD 465GB What new CPU and/or Motherboard or even GPU would you guys suggest to improve my FSX? Is there one specific component…

Hello guys, I'm planing on doing a new rig mainly for prepared 3d. The spec's I'm thinking of going with are: Intel I5 6600K MSI pro gaming carbon z170 A 1 TB HDD Then comes the graphics card, which is a bit of a tough choice, a GTX 970 of 1060 as there is a noticeable price difference between both (1060 more expensive), but the question is will there be a noticeable difference in performance? Anyway what kind of frame rate increase can one expect in P3D while using mid-high scenery settings and with shadows and HDR enabled when coming from a laptop with a 3rd gen I7 and a gtx 630M?

Hello there. I am currently running FSX Steam Edition for flying on VATSIM. I use a number of addons like PMDG, Majestic and Aerosoft Aircraft, and many addon sceneries from Aerosoft, FlyTampa, T2G, etc. Here are my current specs: AMD FX 6300 3.5GHz Gigabyte Motherboard (AM3+ Socket) Stock CPU cooling AMD Radeon R7 240 2GB 8GB DDR3 RAM Windows 10 x64 I have to run FSX on very low settings which makes textures, sceneries and terrain look rather horrible. I can tweak it to the point of maybe getting 20fps in well optimized or less dense scenery, but once you start adding in more dense scenery and air traffic, frame rate can drop as low as 8fps (which I am …

Hi, I am about to start simming again after a couple of years pause. I am going to build a new Skylake PC around a 6600k CPU, a GTX980 and a couple of fast G.Skill Trident Z sticks. My previous PC´s have been built with Asrock boards, that served me well - somehow I have sweet spot for Asrock. What are you using? As I like longhaul flights with the CS 777 for instance, longevity/durability is important for me. I will be using FSX/DX10. BR, Anders

A question for Rob Steve and the other CPU experts Intel's next line of extreme cpu will be topped by the 6950x which will be a ten core processor. I want to build the best machine possible so I have assumed I would use the 6950. However after reading many posts re HT, cores and masks, I am now not sure. If I have read the threads correctly, as of now it is better to have a higher clock speed than more cores? However I am also assuming that continued iprovement with P3D will result in better utilization of more cores? Focusing on the latter assumption, is that doable or have LM already done all they can as to core utilization? Cost is really not an issue, I just …

Hey all, I'm looking to build a system specifically for X-Plane 10. I won't ever be running 4k res, and this is what I've come up: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/cjT4qk I know it won't max it, as nothing does, but this should do pretty well I am guessing? (I wanted the i7 because I'm a software developer so the hyper threading comes in useful!) I'm about at my upper budget (as much as I'd love to get a 1080 and 4k monitor, I can't afford it). Is this a solid sim platform? Are there any changes you'd suggest?

I´m building a new system for work (stock exchange) and need a real fast processor for data analysis.... I also want to play FSX with PMDG and other add-ons. Processor i7 -4790k ou 6700k. (I need a i7 for my work, and it´s also good for fsx) Memory: 16gb DDR3L (2x8gb) (ddr4 is very expensive and hard to find yet in my country, I need 16gb) Monitor: I´m thinking about a LG 29" 2560 x 1080 FHD (Ultra Wide), as it would help a lot with my work and looks good in FSX. I´ll use a 850evo SSD as main drive and a 2gb HDD for data. Questions: 1) What would be the best processor ? 4790k ou 6700k ? I´m afraid of skylake bugs (like the prime95), but 4790k is getting o…

I would like to upgrade my OS SSD from 128GB to 256GB, and also my 1TB HDD to a new 1TB SSD. Does anyone know what the best cloning software to get this done with on Windows 10? I've watched several youtube videos to get an idea of how it's done. Will I have to reactivate my Windows after the process is done? Will I have to do anything to get the SSD to boot into Windows again, such as resetting the MBR and such? Also does the software to clone depend on the brand of SSD/HDD you have? I currently have a crucial M4 128GB SSD that is my main OS drive with Windows 10 on it. And my 1TB HDD is a Seagate drive.

I have bought an I7 4790K (together with a GTX1070 which is yet to arrive). Whilst I have installed a new GPU in the past this will be the first time I have tried my hand at installing a CPU. My question is do I need to apply thermal paste to the CPU or will the paste that came with the stock cooler with my original build suffice? I am not planning to overclock the CPU .....YET but when I do I plan to get an aftermarket cooler. It is just that I am desperate to install the CPU to see what difference it makes with P3D and other programs. I currently have an I5 4670. Thanks in advance.
