  1. Starting to map out a new machine and like the title suggest, whats your opinions on the new 6850k processor? Not really worried about the price difference as much as I am any performance gains. It will be paired with a GTX 1080 SC card. I know the Skylake seems to be a popular choice around here but it seems like I read that Broadwell will have better performing cores.

I have a sim rig I only use for Prepar3D V3.3 in VR. Ever since I built it a few years ago (starting with FSX and moving up through the generations of P3D), I have had excellent luck with my i5-2500K OCed to 4.5GHz. Even during the past several months while I've been using the DK2, my bottleneck appeared to be more GPU than CPU. But moving up to the CV1 seems to have changed that. My Core 0 is running pegged to 100% virtually ALL the time I'm flying, and all other cores look like they're living between 85-100% at all times (flying). The CPU is clearly working harder than it's been used to doing. Furthermore, I'm experiencing rather frequent blurries, VR drop-outs…

Hi, Just. Wanted to get an opinion on if I should get the latest i5 or i7. The build will be used purely for FSX. I have read multi threading does not offer performance improvement, and a lot of OC's have it disabled. The motherboard will be gigabyte gaming 7 (open to a recommendation on that too), and I would also look to over clock the CPU. In that respect, which CPU would offer the best over clock. I would like to get your views before committing to the purchase. Thanks

Hi community, I need to ask a couple of questions about an intended upgrade; a little embarrassing because I work in IT, but I have not had time presently to research gaming type hardware, such as video cards. So, to my questions: I currently have an Intel i5 3570k, 8Gb RAM, and a GTX660Ti Video card with 2Gb of RAM. I run FSX from its own dedicated SSD, usually in 1920x1080 res, which is the Windows default setting. I intend to do an upgrade using a kit supplied by a local vendor, it includes a pretty good up to date mobo, 16Gb RAM, and an Intel Skylake i7 6700 stock clocked at 4Ghz. Is anybody able to point me as to which sort of video card I should go u…

  12. Hi: Please understand, I HAVE SEARCHED.... what I am looking for is a CURRENT (March 2016) top of the line build recommendation for P3D v 3.2- period. I read so much about z170 v x99 and Devil's Canyon vs. Skylake. Add in the W10 Pro vs. W7 x64 Pro debate, throw in some RAM discussion, and I end up without a plan of action.... I am looking for a relatively mainstream, high performance machine. If Rob, Steve etc. have a moment, I would be much obliged.... I AM SPECIFICALLY LOOKING FOR A MOTHERBOARD, CPU, RAM combination to allow a 4.8GHz OC. I am decided on (and have purchased) the following- CASE- Cooler Master Stacker (matches my current case) V…

I have been having problems with my Dell XPS 9100 for some time. I think I will replace it . The question is with what. I do photos, searching on line, FSX with add on's, and E mail. Is there a company any one would recommend? Dell may have the best computer to my knowledge, however their maintenance help desk isn't so good. I could build a computer, however I prefer to get one ready to go. Any helpful input is appreciated. Thanks, Ralph

HI, Currently I'm running a i7 with 8GB RAM. I run two separate SSDs one for P3D / FSX and one for the OS (Windows 10), I will probably by another one for X-Plane and run it on it's own drive. I have a storage drive on the machine too of 1TB, but storage isn't really a problem as I have a NAS with a lot of capacity. It's the memory I'm considering most, my current PC has this installed: CMY8GX3M2B2133C9R - 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Pro Series Red, PC3-17066 (2133), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-11-11-31, XMP, 1.65V I was considering jumping this up to 16GB, not for P3D or FSX but because I'm considering adding X-Plane to my machine as an option. Looki…

The one I'll be building will run P3Dv3 and will be on one monitor. I have in this list a separate computer I plan to run with Aivlasoft EFB and PFPX, Topcat, etc. I want to connect the two computers via a LAN network so that they communicate with each other. Hi All, I am seeking opinions as to what to get for my "play area".... Currently, like probably most, I have a simple desk. And the thing is as I add controlers, etc. I am quickly finding this is not the most ideal setup for all of them... I use this PC and space for both general gaming and Flight Sims, and this is what it looks like: You can see some of the things there, and also why it quickly becomes more of a complication (which it already is...) regarding where to place all the gaming items. So what I want is some "desk-like" structure or something that will let me set everything up in a better and more comfortable way for using …

Hi, I've been doing quite a lot of research regarding best PC specs. for running P3D v3. I'm particularly unsure about the best CPU to be using. I have already found out the 4790k performs better under single core loads compared to the 6700k, is this true? Considering that P3D and FSX generally use a single core, I assumed that the 4790k would be the CPU to go for... However after doing some more research about the 6700k, it appears it is more efficient, uses less power... Unless I've missed any forum posts similar to this (apologies if I have), I can't seem to find any solid evidence about which of the two is best, specifically for P3D. Or is there an…

Greetings friends, I took the plunge and I'm leaving FS9 and 2D panel flying behind. I've done hours of reading and video watching to build a 2016 machine within my budget and I need some help with the last part, selecting and setting-up the drive/drives. This machine is exclusively for flight simulation and I want to run P3D V3+ and try X Plane. I read a theory about installing two different drives and where to put the OS and where to put the sims, but I cannot seem to find that discussion again. 24. Hello everyone, I recently just finished my new computer, built it from scratch. I chose my CPU as the AMD FX8350 with 8 cores at 4.0GHz. I understand Intel is FSX's favorite, but I was on a budget and AMD would give me the most bang for my buck. I normally get around 10-15 frames in the PMDG NGX, and around 10 in the PMDG 777 and Aerosoft Airbus. I'm almost sure I can get better performance from this, and I'm soon getting a water cooler so I could overclock. I have my .cfg from a friend who tweaked it a lot. Although, he does have the i7 4790k. I'll link that here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5dss2l0l5c52ub3/fsx.CFG?dl=0 If anyone with an FX series proces…

Hi all, Need a few opinions or better yet first hand experiences on the above. I know its pointless in all other regards, but I want to know, specifically with P3D in mind, would it be beneficial at all? The upgrade would cost me somewhere between 300-400 USD if I settle for the lower end of DDR4 and I wouldn't wanna spend that much money on 3 or 4 frames more. Current setup is 4770k with 2400mhz CL 11 rams. Upgrade would be 6700k with probably 2600mhz. Clock for clock performance seems to be almost the same or marginally better but the prospect of achieving higher clock speeds seems tempting. My current CPU is running at 4.2ghz and I cannot go higher due …
