Hi everyone! I recently came back to simming after an extensive break and loving the new Prepar3d v3. I'm looking to either upgrade my existing system, make a new build or just leave it as it is and I'd like your opinion on the matter. Right now my system looks like this: i7 4770 GTX770 2GB DDR5 WindForce X3 Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H board 32GB Kit (8GBx4) DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL8 @1.5V Ballistix Tactical Corsair Hydro H60 CPU Cooling Samsung 500GB 840 EVO Seasonic 550W G-Series For an upgrade I'm looking at: 1) I7 4790k and overclock 2) optionally replacing the GTX770 with a MSI GTX 980 Ti GAMING 6G if that makes sense Total around EUR ~1000, ~350 …

  4. Hey folks. I am at the point where my system needs an upgrade. I long for better performance in p3d, and my current rig is feeling the age. I am thinking about getting the i7-6700K with a z170 ASUS Ranger mobo. This is my current shopping list. I have a NZXT big tower case, and I am wondering two things: 1. Will the mobo fit in there? 2. Will the dual fan of the corsair water cooler fit or do I have to go with a single fan cooler? Thanks so much in advance for any help and input. I am a novice on building pc's myself.

I am looking into a new Skylake build and am considering the Asus Z-170 Pro Gaming motherboard. I'd appreciate any comments (good or bad) from anyone who has this motherboard as well as any recommendations from those who are 'in the know' regarding a solid, reliable Z170 motherboard in the $150 - $250 price range. Thanks in advance.

For those that are running skylake, would you mind sharing what your setting are, cooling, ram, ram voltages, etc....??? I'm about to finish up my skylake build with a 6600k running an evo 212 and Gskill DDR4 3000 RAM. I'd love to find a nice stable 4.4 that would be 24/7 safe. But for everyone else working on or considering a skylake build I think seeing the results everyone is getting would be great. Myself, I'm not an avid overclocker but certainly not new to it either. Knowing the methods folks used, the bclk, multis and voltages etc would be really helpful. Thanks everyone!!!

  7. Just a heads up gentlemen, as it's not been mentioned on Avsim A few weeks ago, a report from German "PC Games Hardware" highlighted a potential issue with Skylake CPU's and third party CPU coolers. Due to the reduced thickness of the CPU substrate, Skylake CPU's can bend due to cooler mounting pressure. The mechanically weaker CPU, its pins and the motherboard contacts can all be bent and sheared by the pressure exerted by cooler clamping mechanisms. At the moment it seems that its just Scythe coolers that are effected. Namely the Ashura, Mugen 4, Mugen 4 PCGH-Edition, Fuma, Ninja 4, Grand Kama Cross 3, Mugen Max and Kotetsucan. Owners of the coolers a…

Hello, It is christmas for me and my family said that I could use my giftcard for something for my computer. I know FSX:SE is very CPU dependent but my GPU is also not the best. I was wondering what I should upgrade for my computer. GPU or CPU? Specs: CPU: AMD Athlon X4 860K (Overclocked to 4.0 GHz) GPU: EVGA GTX 960 ACX 2.0 2gb SuperSC (Overclocked) http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hLFj99 Thanks! Dear fellow avsimmers, The purpose of this post is to receive your opinions regarding my imminent computer upgrade. My intention is to buy an ASUS ROG Laptop (now I know a lot of you will suggest against running FSX on a laptop, but due to the fact that I am constantly on the go, this is my only option). In any case, I want a laptop powerful enough to run FSX on high settings (doesn't have to be maxed out), as well as being able to run the following addons to start with: PMDG 777, 737 and 747 Aerosoft A320 ORBX Base, vector and sceneries REX texture and cloud products Aerosoft Mega, Flytampa, FSdreamteam sceneries GSX ground services I have considered the followin…

  13. G´day folks, i lately came across that i have "just" 2133MHz no name RAM installed on my ASUS Rampage V xtreme Mobo. Now my question is, is it worth to buy RAMs like the G Skill Ripjaw 4 RAMs rated 300MHz and would P3Dv3.x benefit from these pairs? Thanks in advance.

My desktop remains my system for FSX. Bought a cheap gaming laptop (under $600) which should run FS9 OK. Comes with lots of bloat installed (unnecessary programs. utilities). What are considerations for removing some it? Is there PC programs to help do this? What about warranties: If you change the new laptop configuration, that will probably void the warranty, I would have to reinstall the bloatware? Any tips or tricks, advice? Thanks.

Hi All, Not Flight Simulator related as I don't use FSX-SE, hence why I posted in this section, however I do use Steam for a few other games. Over the weekend I needed to reinstall one of my Steam games, so I removed all the local files and then began the download and install process. About 40% of the way through, Steam paused the download. I went into the Manage Downloads screen, and it had said 'Download Paused, Disk Write Error'. I thought this was strange. When I clicked the resume button, it just resumed and completed fine. Checking the log file for Steam, there is a line which says something along the lines of 'failed to write chunk in file' (file not found) (di…

Hi, Just building my new system, just need some advice on what to install. While I have FSX and the SP's ready to go, I'm guessing getting Steam Edition would simplify the installation process as it also includes the cfg updates right? With regards scenery I'm thinking of Orbx but I like the look of the night environment lights, are they compatible together? At some point down the line I'm thinking of migrating to P3D. I hear Orbx stuff can be a pain to remove is it a smile process to install into P3D if already installed? I want to keep the drive clear of clutter lol Thanks for any tips

About 5 months ago my trusty Seagate HDD Failed on me (1TB) 7200 RPM internal. I was not ready to make the financial leap to SSD so instead paid extra dollars over the base HDD and purchased a Seagate SSHD which offered an increased performance compromise.
