I am starting to do my research for a new "Gaming" laptop as my 6 year old Dell served it's purpose for business but does not really cut it for FSX-SE. With Black Friday sales coming soon I am hoping to be ready to purchase either an MSI or ASUS-ROG. 1. If I get a 1TB HDD with a 128GB SSD combined is there any problem installing FSX-SE completely into the SSD - is that the way to go? 2. If #1 is a YES, then what about all the other addons - should everything related to FSX-SE be in the SSD? 3. Also what about just a 1TB HDD 7200RPM SATA without a combined SSD drive?

I didn't really know where to post this, but suppose here is most appropriate.... I thought some of you guys might find it interesting. I recently sourced the parts, and was about ready to pull the trigger on a new Skylake build. Until that is, I tried this experiment… A nearby neighbour has the following PC: Chipset: Asus Z170 Deluxe CPU: i7 6700 @ 4.6ghz (OC) RAM: 16Gb Corsair Dominator (3200mhz) GPU: nVidia GTX1080 My own current rig, is just beginning to creak and groan a little, even though it’s only about 5 years old: Chipset: Asus Z68 V-Pro CPU: …

Hi to all A most interesting forum. I wish I had come here earlier. I have been reading through recent threads of new builds and would like to have your feedback on the below. Although I have FS2002, 2004 and the standard 1st issue FSX, I only use it for flying small light aircraft. I also have a few add-ons, of UK landscape and airports – no additional planes. Re FSX I might take a closer look at the Steam version. The discussions re air cool against liquid cooling in particular. I am not building the computer myself and the options for cooling offered by the builder are not vast. For me, I am looking for the quietest as possible with some control over fan s…

Hello everyone ! , So recently I've decided to start building my "First" ever PC Build , after struggling with my laptop for more than 3 YEARS ! anyway , I got a deal from someone to buy NZXT S340 case and Asus Z170-A ATX 1151 both for $215 , and yeah , they are almost new "used for less than 2 weak " , and the issue is that I will be finishing my build by June or July 2017 [ due to my financial position you can say ] ! so it means they are going to be settled-down for a long time , So is it a right decision to buy it now "as in a way of saving money" or just wait until I have the whole budget is in my hands and buy it all at once ? BTW , I will be purchasing it fr…

My powered USB2 hub seems to be 'back feeding' my PC. Even after PC is shut down and UNPLUGGED from mains, most LEDs remain on. Is this normal/acceptable or should I replace it? It behaved like that from new (eBay special).

Hi all I'm looking for a new laptop to run fsx on. I will be using the PMDG 737 with it and I will also want to run relatively high graphic settings so that the game looks fairly good at least. The laptop specs below is the one I am thinking. Would anybody be able to advise on if they think this would be a good one to run fsx on. I appreciate this is a common question so I apologise and also really appreciate any responses. MSI GP62 6QF Windows 10 Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ processor 15.6 inch Full HD LCD display (1920 x 1080) 16Gb RAM DDR4-2133 1Tb (1000Gb) hard drive storage with 128Gb SSD NVIDIA GeForce 960M 2Gb GDDR5 graphics DVD SuperMulti driv…

I'll be darned if I can find any software that'll "CORRECTLY" control my motherboard fans:-( Mobo is Asus P8Z68-V Pro. All the headers and fans are 3pin (no PWM): Two CPU air cooling fans going CPU1 & CPU Opt: Two fans to CH1 & CH2 - Two more to PWR1 & PWR2 I've been through no less than FOUR Speenfan tutorials. Good as some seem to rate it, Speedfan will ONLY control my fans from one header, and I certainly wont split all fans from there. I thought Asus AI Suite would do it, but it doesn't look like it does. Its not like the new Asus software on later boards. Although all the fans are high quality and 'reasonably' quiet, they're still all ru…

So I got the RAM I wrote about in the other thread... For reference it is this ram: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/vengeance-pro-series-16gb-2-x-8gb-ddr3-dram-2133mhz-c11-memory-kit-cmy16gx3m2a2133c11r My last RAM was corsair vengeance as well, but it was 2x 4 GB 1866mhz. With that RAM I was able to run XMP Profile1 in my bios, and the bios set the correct spd of 1866. When I set XMP profile1 with this new RAM it sets it to 2000 mhz (the correct speed is 2133). The mobo manual says 2133 works. Anyway if I set Profile1 it WILL POST, but not boot into Win. My CPU multi is 40x as its always been (a very mild OC - it's never worked much higher). Anyway, what I …

Hi all, If some may have noticed, I was for the upcoming i7, 7700K as a better upgrade option. I still believe the same, but seems like I could't be more patient waiting till January release -count that as a weakness-. My idea is that since the Kaby Lake will be compatible with the 170 chipset, someone can sell the 6700K and previous setup, and upgrade to Kaby Kake if the performance gain is noticable. So until then I am up to: CPU: Inel i7 6700K GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 MB: Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 7 RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 3866Mhz C18 SSD: NVMe Samsung 960 Pro, 512 GB For cooling and power I'll be using my current Corsair H100i hydroc…

Hi all, I'm looking into a new system, and trying to figure out which is the best RAM option. I fly P3D v3. I am a little confused about speeds, as I see most people to use 3000, 3200 or 3600Mhz ram, while there are higher speeds available. I was thinking of the 3866Mhz DDR4. I read that frequency is all that matters instead of latency, but I'm trying to find a realistic best solution. Is there any best combination in regards of timing, latency, frequency that you could certainly advise? Is it better to go 3866Mhz C18 or 2133Mhz C10 for example? Thanks in advance!

Several stores listing at $349 at intro. Also a quick Google, one was clocked at 6.7ghz on LN2 cooling, but not sure what voltage. Seems to have good overclocking potential, the 4.5 Turbo is good news too. Fun stuff.

Hi guys Hope you're well, i'm very narrowed between these two cpu's 5930K (6 cores/15MB cache)& 6700K, but the 6700K is not available now and in the nearly future in my region now and the only choice available now is 5930K. To be honest i'm lining toward the 5930K especialy i'm a home cockpit user (7 screens at one PC and too many USBs connected with so many heavy addons added), so u can say i'm a heavy P3D user. So i need the advice if i get the 5930K i'll be happy and the results will be good ?? It will be strongly enough to control and run all these conditions and addons smoothly as possible ???!!!! Does it considered to be a high end CPU ??? and i'll s…

Hey guys, can anyone offer some advice on whether I should have hyperthreading switched on or off with my new i7-6700k build. I run FSX-SE and have always understood that hyperthreading is redundant with FSX as it only runs on a single core. However, is that still the same train of thought or is there a good reason for running hyperthreading. I have previously run with a i5-2500k when I had AffinityMask =14. What should I do in this area, bearing in mind I'm running FSX-SE with a i7-6700. Thanks.

Two SSDs installed to PC.... Samsung 840 (120Gb) for Windows and much newer Crucial CT500-200MX (500Gb) for flightsim software. The older Samsung reports MUCH better test results for average read speeds. Both plugged into sata 6Gbs M/B sockets. Both with exactly the same cables. Tried swapping plugs and cables. Also downloaded and installed latest motherboard drivers from Asus. Any ideas? Samsung results: Random access: 0.1ms Average Read: 378.7 MB/s Crucial results: Randon access: 0.1ms Average read: 204.1 MB/s

I am looking for the best specification (and quality) laptop for less than £500 for my dad. This would be for running office software (Word/Excel/Powerpoint) and the internet (Wireless connection). It would be useful to have a built in DVD player, although that is not absolutely essential. I was thinking about 8GB RAM, 500GB/1TB hard disk, 15.6" screen, and Windows 10 64bit. He would also like to know if this laptop could be plugged into his existing 19" desktop monitor when he is at home, and if he could use his existing mouse and keyboard. Any suggestions or advice?

I just USB flashed my ASRock Z68 bios to 2.10, and although all messages said the update was successful and I can get into the UEFI setup utility, Windows won't actually boot. It just keeps blue-screening saying 'boot device inaccessible'. Any advice would be gratefully received!!!

Hello everyone. My first post on this this particular forum so please be kind. As you can see, I am not new to AVsim nor to flightsim although I am only using FS2004. I am using 6 monitors at the moment and this has severely restricted any activities in FSX, FSX-SE and P3D although I do have all of them. But, I do want to upgrade to any or all of them, including the new DTG and XPlane 11. As an aged pensioner, I do have limited funds for hardware upgrade and I do want to do this gradually. The plan is to start with an overclocking as per the topic title, then to get a pair of GTX1070 or 1080 GPUs. From there it will be the full monty with, (then current)…

Ok, seriously I have a few questions and I don't want the typical flames back or I'll ask the moderator to lock this thread. I'm smart enough to know FSX will not run in macOS. I am in school doing a Master's. My FS PC that I used fried, it's dead and as a PS cooked the mother board it is gone. However I bought a nice 27" 5K Retina Display iMac about 6 months ago; great for the MBA but not sure about it for FSX/P3D until the tuition payments stop bleeding me of cash for a new FS PC. I do have it Boot Camped (Meaning it has two partitions and so I run Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on it). Here is a bit of my tech spec. 4.0 GHz quad-core i7, TB up to 4.2GHz 16GB 18…
