Can somebody please explain what is this and does it really help? I found this suggestion in this guide: http://aviationwb.com/p3dset.html Some people are claiming that their stutters are gone when doing this thing but I'm a bit cautious since I have no idea what this "Unpark CPU cores" does. Any other side effects of using this unpark thing?

I almost bought a PC a short while ago but suddenly my money was needed elsewhere. Luckily I've been able to take care of a few things and the funds are back again. However, in the meantime I was wondering if it wouldn't be a better idea to buy one of those high end laptops. They seem to be 4K and VR ready, can even handle Gsync and obviously they are portable. I probably will use it as a desktop with a monitor attached to it plus a keyboard and mouse but well, being able to take it along with me elsewhere sounds rather nice... Now obviously these laptops don't have an i7 7700 and a Z260 mobo etc. but I know you can get MSI ones with a 1080 GPU (even SLI but I am not inte…

I have an elderly PC,about 10 years old. Various upgrades have kept it going. Now the graphics card has failed and I am looking for a replacement. Hoping to get a modern card I found that it may not be compatible with my old PCI-E socket, which is version 1.0. Any thoughts on this will be gratefully received. Flyer32

Currently have a 256GB SSD for solely my P3D installation. I moved most of the scenery and AI off the SSD to save room including the extremely large Orbx folder. But was thinking of upgrading to a larger SSD so i can have all the scenery and Orbx to take advantage of the bandwith in loading of scenery while in flight etc. Can I simply move the installation from one SSD to another? I think i read this isn't possible. Could i rename the current SSD from D: to E: then name the new SSD D: so the system thinks P3D is still on the same drive?

Greetings AIO fans. What about this guy. If like me you aren't too keen on even a slight chance of leaks, then what about a 360 rad, reservoir and pump all outside your PC. http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2017/01/11/alphacool-eiswand-360/1

I'm planning to stay with 1080P and not go 2/4k or VR any time soon. XP11 is the most demanding software out there that I'll be using for the new build. Does anyone see concerns driving 2 monitors (one for the sim and one for charts/internet browser) and keeping my GTX 970? Adding a 1070 puts me $200 over budget (budget 1000 USD). The card will be fine for P3D (I think I'll hold on to that sim for now), but I also play other games like Battlefield 1 and various steam games.

Hello, there was a little bit of discussion on this in the Kaby Lake 5ghz thread, but I thought I'd start a new thread for anyone using Kaby Lake processors with windows 7 to post their experiences as they get settled in with their new processor. Are there issues or was the talk about Kaby Lake only working on windows 10 a bit overblown? I'm looking at a CPU upgrade but don't want to do the windows 10 upgrade, so would probably go with the 6700k unless it's pretty clear that Kaby Lake does indeed work fine with windows 7. Thanks

Well, big bummer... In another topic I posted about my planned upgrade and if I should wait for a 1080 Ti or not. However, life got in the way and let's just say my budget for my brand new PC seems to have gone down the drain. Not completely, luckily, but now I probably will have to look at an upgrade instead of a brand new system. Right now I have an i7 [email protected], 16 GB RAM and a GTX780 (with 6 GB VRAM). Simple question: will going to a GTX1080 (so not a Ti) give me any benefit in XP11, which I run at 1080i...? Anyone here who made a similar switch? Or might I as well go for a GTX1070 (since I will stick with a res of 1920x1080 for now)...? Last year I tested wha…

I recently migrated from FSX to P3D V3 and faced the reality that my FSX machine would not handle P3D as well as I would like, so prior to building my new machine I experimented with using a cloud based PC for flight simulation. I tested the following setups (Please note I do not work for or receive anything from any of these vendors): 1. Amazon Web Services (AWS) GPU Compute instance (Nvidia GRID GPU) using Windows 2012 Server using Open VPN and USB over IP. (Cost varies with global demand but ranged from 14 cents to 76 cents/hour) - Storage can be scaled for whatever you need but you have to pay (depends on type of storage but roughly 2 cents/GB per month but OS …

Next week I will have my new system based on the Kaby Lake 7700K processor. I will have then the colossal work of reinstalling FSX and all its accessories… Can someone recommend the best procedure to follow? For example, do the main pieces of software such as Flight1 products, PMDG, FSLabs A320X, AS2016, DX10Fixer, etc. require the proper uninstallation from my old rig? Thanks

Hi, Seems like 2017 is the time to upgrade my older 4770K@4,7 to i7-7700K. Out of the box it looks like a 30% boost with a "5 GHZ" relative easy to clock given another 6%. So if we expect todays FPS at 30FPS it should provide about 40-41fps Not bad at all Maybe also 2-5fps extra with DDR4@3200MHZ RAM vs DDR3@2400MHZ So 30FPS is almost 50fps (hopefully  ) http://hwbench.com/cpus/intel-core-i7-7700k-vs-intel-core-i7-4770k Michael Moe

Looking at these newer ssd's... what is the difference between what I have now (a samsung 840 evo) and this: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-960-EVO-Internal-MZ-V6E250BW/dp/B01LYFKX41/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483997666&sr=1-3&keywords=m2+ssd Do I need a special mobo for this? Are they even worth it? About 250 bucks for a 500GB.

good afternoon all, I had planned on upgrading my machine last year around this time, and I was just about to pull the trigger when unforeseen circumstances decided to show up and derail my plans. So it's time again, bonus payments are coming in next week and I want to upgrade for $1300 tops. I've got a good case, a good power supply, and a good liquid cooling system. I'd like to upgrade the to a 1TB SSD, and I'd also like to upgrade the processor, mother board, and the video card. (I'm running FSX - it runs very smooth but I struggle in places like ORD, ORBX SOCAL, etc.) Here are my current specs, any suggestions as to what I can upgrade my motherboard, C…

Hi I have an SSD (no HDD) partitioned into two - it's a long story but that's the way it is. C is running out of space (Win 7 installed on C together with FSX) and D is unused. Is it possible to expand the C partition or even eliminate the D part so that the whole SSD is just C - without having to go through the whole uninstall/re-install hassle? As you can probably guess from my question, my computer skills are zero. I can turn it on and off - and that's about it. If anyone is kind enough to reply, I'd be grateful if you'd answer in layman's terms :-) Thanks.

Gents, I have a 5 year old machine (which was pretty much state of the art back then;-) with a GIGABYTE Z68X-UD4-B3 INTEL Z68 SLI/CROSSFIRE DDR3 SATA3 USB3.0 LGA 1155 1 motherboard and was wondering if it's worth upgrading to the following: CPU- I'm on a tight budget so it needs to fit this above board. I've found the fastest processors this board will take are the I7 2700K and I7 3770k (I do plan on overclocking) - wich is better for FSX? Does anyone know what ram I should/can get with this old MB (currently 8 GB corsair 1600 DDR3 Last, but not least, if you believe the above upgrades will give me a performance boost, what GPU would you recommend, again…

Made a video installing and cloning my 500GB SSD to a 1TB 850evo SSD. A little tip, everything went smooth after it was cloned. Ezdok had to be reinstalled via the flight 1 wrapper so just keep that in mind if you do the same.

Hello all, I have just read that Kingston have released, or are about to release, a thumb drive (USB3) with a capacity of both 1 and/or 2 terabytes. I was wondering if this could possibly replace either an HDD or even an SSD for any sim. If indeed, it is possible (read viable), would it be faster than an HDD but slower than a SSD, or faster than both? Cost at this time is unknown but I will certainly be buying one (or getting one from Australia as they will not be available here in Indonesia for about a decade) for storage purposes at least. Thoughts???? Regards to all Tony Chilcott

Just in case anyone's interested, I thought I'd post an update on my overclocking endeavours with the 6700K, and enquire what sort of voltages you chaps are running with. I noticed that the Asus Five Way Optimisation software nudged the adaptive voltage up to 1.42 volts, running BF4. Not excessive, no issue, Asus and Intel tell us that 1.45 is acceptable, but I was pretty sure it was a tad excessive for my chip. Temp running RealBench was 83 degrees. So, I dived into some manual overclocking in order to see if I could achieve a stable overclock at lower voltage and as a comparison with the 5WO results. Overclocking manually in the UEFI, I achieved a stable 4.…

My first post as I typically find answers through previous posts. My PC specs are as follows: I-7 6700 CPU with a Nvidia GTX 745 @ 3.4 ghz, running on Windows 10 Home, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB HD. I bought it a couple of years ago off the shelf so I know it's nothing all that impressive of a PC, but overall it runs FSX pretty well. The only tweaks that I've performed is through the AVSIM guide. So I get a consistent 30 fps while flying, but on final and at the airport (add-on with My traffic 6 at 20%) it typically drops to 11-13 fps. It's not terrible, but gets a little sluggish while turning. Also ground rendering is slow while flying. I would like to purchase the P…

I have the following computer as my primary flying computer. Intel I5 4670K 4.3Ghz,16GB PC1600 DDR3 RAM,2x250GB SSD,Geforce GTX970 4GB,Windows 10 64bit I am looking for advice to either upgrade the CPU to a I7 6700K c/w motherboard and DDR4 RAM or obtain a GTX 1070 for my existing motherboard in the first instance. I an currently running unlimited and pushing a constant 34-36fps with usual Orbx and UK2K scenery. Ideally I want to do both but my dear wife would file for divorce if I spent that much in 1 sitting. Thoughts please. Thanks S

Sorry for all the PC questions lately, really trying to find a good upgrade! Basically the title is my question. Is it worth $350? Paired with the GTX 1060, and the MSI Z170A, what could I expect in P3D and GTA? I normally get around 20FPS in P3D and 60FPS in GTA V.
