I has a look at the system requirements that are available for the new sims for this year and I see the one has the minimum requiremenst of an i3-6100 (2-core @ 3.7Ghz) and the other an i5-6600 (4-core @ 3.3Ghz). I'm running a i7-4790k (4-core @ 4.7Ghz), so non of the requirend ones for the new sims have more cores and both have significantly lower speed. As a novice in computer specs, I'd say that the 4790k is ahead on both of them. Now what are those 6th gen processors different from the 4th gen, that 2 core @ 3.7Ghz, or 4 cores @ 3.3Ghz is good enough but an i7-4790k with 4 cores @ 4.7Ghz wouldnt be able to cope anymore?

I built my latest PC a few months ago and I’ve just discovered that my ridiculously expensive motherboard has a fault... The onboard GPU doesn’t work. The reason I’ve only just discovered this, is that I fitted a graphics card on day one. Foolishly it seems, without first testing the M/B GPU. To be honest, I don’t think it even crossed my mind at the time. With further internet research, it can ‘probably’ be assumed the fault was present from new. Seems it’s a common issue on the v1 production of the board (Asus Z170 Deluxe). Although the board is still well within its 12 month warrantee, the retailer states it has to go back to Asus for repair, rather than replaced…

Hello, Is this a good PC? PROCESSOR: Intel i3 7100 3.9GHz Dual Core MEMORY:1x 8GB DDR4 - 2133MHz GRAPHICS:GEFORCE GTX1050 2GB STORAGE:1TB SATA III Will this run FSX, PMDG and Fly Tampa scenery. Should I get a higher Processor and lower Graphics card, I can get i7 GTX 1050, what's more important for FSX high processor or high graphics card? Thanks, Chris

Hello guys, Im posting a message on behalf of a friend that is in the process of acquiring a new PC. Its solely for Prepar3d and maybe Xplane 11. Based on his budget, he has a choice between: Intel i7 6700k, 16GB DDR4 Ram, GTX 1070 and a 1440p monitor Intel i7 7700k, 16GB DDR4 Ram, GTX 1070 and a 1080p monitor Intel i5 7600k 16GB DDR4 Ram, GTX 1070 and a 1440p monitor His reasoning for the 1080p monitor is that he will have alot more headroom over the 1440p that may allow a smoother running sim/ slightly higher graphics settings, with ofcourse more savings as well. He will also like to know if he should just forgo the 1070 and get a 1060 instead…

So I'm coming here in hopes that someone can better assist me. My old co worker built the computer im using and the original build only had a 250gb SSD. I went out and bought a crucial mx300 525gb SSD and am trying to install it. I have run into a bit of a snag as you can see in the photos which raises my question of concerns. The power cable that runs from the power supply to the 250 SSD has two SATA connections, one being to the 250 other is probably couple inches away, and this is where I run into my issue...I can't mount the 500 because of how close that second SATA connector is. I also considered using the mount I have which can double stack them(which also came with…

Hello all, I'm trying to come up with a solution for my ever expanding collection of flight sim add-ons, scenery, aircraft, etc. I recently started flying in X-Plane as well as Prepar3d. My love of Orthro4XP has really put a bottle neck on the available space I have available on my present SSD. I was thinking of using a SSD for each simulator. I currently have a SDD as my main hard drive, it has my Windows 10 install along with all games. I also have a regular HDD that I use for storage only. My question is, would I still see the better loading benefits if I changed my storage HDD to be my Windows 10 and other games hard drive, then used one SSD for X-Plane and…

Declaimer: The following is a true experience and Not just an opinion. If anyone would like to respond and/ or provide any advise, feedback, or suggestions.... I will gladly listen and try. Having build my last 3 computers with Intel's latest enthusiast CPUs, and noticing no improvement from 4.5Ghz to 5.0Ghz, I was adamant about jumping from 6700K to the latest 7700K. However, after reading tons of " guys you need to get this chip, this will change your life forever" from our P3D community, I thought: "Damn, am I being left behind if I don't make the move.. everyone else is doing it- Everyone... well almost" AMD: With ADM's recent Ryzen l…

Hello all, I’ve recently purchased a new budget build for FSX\P3D. Being from Canada, our dollar is not doing so well. So, with that in mind, I thought it would be fun to see what I could get out of a (1000$CAD - 750$ USD) system. The whole point of this build, is to see if you could get acceptable performance, without having to break the bank. I wanted to share this build in case someone else was looking for a similar price point. List of parts ordered: Intel Core i5-7600 3.5GHz - 4.2GHz Turbo Quad-Core Processor $299.99 MSI B250I GAMING PRO AC Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard $144.99 Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory $88.0…

I keep hearing how FSX loads much faster from a SSD as opposed to a HDD. Well - I am very dissapointed as just today I had my computer tech shop insatll a Samsung SSD and cloned evrything from HDD to SSD - everything was successful and everything works - no problems at all. Then came my moment of disappointment - when I loaded my default saved flight that I always use and has been used for all my bench mark testing - the load time was exactly the same as before - I don't get it. Could it be that I have tweaked my FSX.CFG so well that the SSD did not make a difference? The only difference I have noticed is the the actual laptop boot up - that is so much quick…

happy easter everybody! now i know this has been discussed over and over and i don't want to start a new debate here. but i hope that by throughing in my question, some people who have actually done the same could help me take the right decision. so, i can basically narrow it down to this: what performance gain in FSX/P3D can be expected by replacing an i5 4690k @ 4.2GHz with an i7 4790k max overclocked (board: ASRock Z97 Pro4)? Thanks, everybody. cheers, HiLok

I started a thread a few days ago about a new build and I think I'm ready to start adding hardware to my cart now, but I've got to make a decision and would appreciate some feedback. I'm moving up from an old i5-2500k that's running at 4.4 w/ an HDD and a GTX960. My question is, should I go with the i5-7600K or the i7-7700K (about a $100 difference today)? Obviously, if money wasn't a factor, I'd go with the 7700K, but I'm trying to save as much as possible and didn't want to splurge if the 7600K would give me similar results. I do plan on overclocking either CPU and using a water cooling (I've been using an air cooler for the last five years). I'll have to keep th…

Hello guys, I am looking at the HP pavillion desktop PC's as they are in my price range. One of the PC's come with intel core i7-6700 Processor and the other comes with an i5-6400. The i5 processor is obviously cheaper!. Apart from that, they are almost identical and both have intel HD integrated 530 graphics. The 530 is a mid range iGPU and should be okay since fsx is heavily coded for CPU usage. My question is: is the £130 extra spend worth it for better fsx frame rates and performance. I will probably use aerosoft airbus and PMDG as well as UK2000 scenery. I want at least 20-25FPS. Is the i7 with higher clock speed and hyperthreading better than the c…

Hi Folks, Running FSX, have not completed a flight for at least 6 times. FSX freezes about 10-15 min into the flight. Checked CPU temp and have 45c when it freezes. Thought i might have a virus, but ran bitdefender and nothing found. Not CTD or blue screen, just stops cold, sits for a few seconds, then "windows is restarting FSX", Anyone have an idea? Would greatly appreciate suggestions! Specs are below. Lennie

I am buying a PC with a GTX 745 (4GB) graphics card and have the option for an i7 or an i5. Computer 1.) The core i5-7400 runs at 3GHz Computer 2.) The core i7-6700 runs at 3.4GHz with up to 4GHz with turbo-boost The computer with an i5 is obviously a lot cheaper and also has the option of a 128gb ssd to load the OS onto. The i7 is alot more expensive and is on the boundary of my budget for a new PC Which computer config would yield better FPS on FSX/P3D and X-plane? I do intend to use all three simulators with some addons such as aerosoft airbus aircraft REX, heathrow scenery e.t.c (FSX will be run at 1280x720 resolution FYI)

hello I have been using the Asus 5 way optimization software to OC my i7700k this gives me 5ghz at around temp of around 63deg with ht on,which I have stress tested for 30 mins using real bench this is fine for now. When I first OC,d my i2600k I came across a PC builders vid which was very detailed and went through just about all Bios setting explaining which could be shut off/left alone and which were really beneficial to the overclock stability, has anyone found a similar vid for overclocking the i7700k Peter

For you Ryzen fans... According to this guy, the latest BIOS resulted in a 28% increase in Ryzen performance, thus beating Intel in games! Information elsewhere, suggests that AMD didn't allow motherboard developers enough time to perfect their firmware, thus the memory and other issues straight after launch. It's suggested that now the motherboard manufacturers have had time to tune their UEFI's, the true Ryzen performance is been realised.

So I have some spare cash lying around, and I'd been mulling the idea of building a desktop. It's been about a minute, since I last built one...actually back around the time where XP was the OS, and having a 1gb card gave you street cred, but I digress. So I saw this video on Youtube, done by a well-respected custom PC builder and I thought "hey, that looks like it could run my sim pretty well!". Before I hit the purchase button, I could use some thoughts and opinions. :) The parts list (updated) is here: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/JayzTwoCents/saved/X79Pxr#problems

For some reason I now have my i5 2500k idling at 55 degrees with a h60 cooler. Playing games takes it in the 90's so I have stopped playing them. Have took cooler off and did notice a hell of a lof of dust around radiator. Cleaned it all off as thought I had found the problem. Reinstalled with new thermal paste but problem is still there. Even tried with old stock Intel cooler with new thermal paste but problem is still the same. Chip is not over clocked. Running at 3.3 ghz. Computer did shut down once I assume to protect chip. I have no idea now what problem could be. Spent hours trawling through Internet. Is the chip on its last legs ? Any advice gladly appreciated. …

I just realized AVSIM doesn't have an Overclocking section ... probably should given how well a good OC works for flight simulators. I'm looking for some input on flow monitor units and/or variable speed pumps. So far I'm looking at AquaComputer flow rate sensor and Koolance (but NOT limited to): AquaComputer Flow Rate Sensor Koolance Flow Rate Sensor My current pumps are EK DCP 4.0 PWM (800 L/h) which is variable speed - used for MB/CPU/VRM and EK DCP 2.2 pump for GPU cooling (400 L/h). Both pumps are working well, but in my quest for safety and optimization, I'm looking to enhance or replace. Software controlled is nice to have, but I'd also b…
