Physically these look very different but I could not find out the difference between the two. Which one will work with the intel MOBO's? Bob

Hi, I had posted in the x-plane forum about buying a complete new system along with a new case, and a selling my complete old system. Now I am thinking about just replacing the MB, CPU and Video Card and keeping the case, PS and CPU water cooler and then adding in an SSD and some new Memory. My Questions concern my Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021 and whether or not it has the right connectors for a new Asus Z170 chipset board. I current have an ASUS P8Z68-v Pro MB which uses my existing Corsair PS mentioned in link above. I have a Cooler Master Case. The other question concerns my Corsair water cooler for my CPU. There is n…

Picked up a 500GB EVO during a black Friday sale. Here is what I want to do. 1) Move P3D to the new 500 Gig SSD. 2) Move the C drive / Windows 7 to my current P3D ssd - a 250 GB EVO. Here is the plan. Using Acronis, clone the current P3D drive (drive P:). Copy to the new 500 GB drive. Rename the old P3D drive Q: Rename the new P3D drive P: - So at this point I am hoping I have moved P3D and everything is working as before. Next step. Clone C Drive onto the SSD drive Q: Rename the old C drive on my HDD to another letter. Set the new SSD clone with windows to the boot drive. Rename it C: I think this will work but want to do…

  5. Hi All, I have a 2011 setup with a I7 2600K, Maximus motherboard and 8 Gig ram. I want to keep my 980 graphic card (purchased 2015), computer case, power supply, water cooler, and 2 SSD (240 G purchased 2 years ago and 100G purchased 2011). I also keep a 1 TB HDD. All my P3D setup is on the SSD and the HDD is used for backup and less important stuff. My original vendor propose the following upgrade: - I7 6700K, 4.2 Ghz (I intend to OC moderately at 4.4) : 510 CAD (390 usd approx) - Gigabyte motherboard, X gaming 3, Z170 : 230 CAD (175 usd approx) - 8 Gig Kingston hyper gamer X DDR4, 2666 Mhz, 2 x 4 Gig : 120 CAD (90 usd approx) I'm not looking gener…

I have bought a Samsung 850EVO SSD 500GB (internal drive). I will be moving my P3D installation onto this drive. I'm not sure what sort of cable to get to connect it into my system. There seems to be a lots of different types and as i'm not too computer savvy its got me confused. My motherboard is an ASUS Sabretooth Z87 USB3.0. I would appreciate any advice on the cable type please. I'm in the UK. Many thanks John Fairman

  7. Hello all, my laptop decided to die yesterday after only three years (you may send cash in lieu of flowers) plus I was planning to replace my P3D desktop after almost 6 years. My choice is to buy both but then I came across this Razer blade and core combo. Anyone can shed some light as if this might be the best of both worlds? I would also just opt for a good gaming laptop but the consensus seems to be that it ain't a good fit for flight sims.

So I have been out of simming for about 4 years and in the last month or so decided I wanted to get back into it. My set up currently is [email protected] | Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 Z68 | Asus 560 Ti | 16MB RAM | 1TB Samsung Spinpoint HDD. I cleaned up my HDD and partitioned it with my OS on "C" and downloaded FSX-SE on "F". I reinstalled PDMG 737, UT2 and subsequently went on a REX, GEX, ORBX, and a sundry of add-ons spending spree. With my FPS fixed at 30 It appeared to be running pretty well. Even though I was taking an FPS hit at detailed airports, it was still relatively smooth and flyable. This led me to believe that I might be able to hold off on a complete rebuild for ma…

Hi all, I currently have the GTX 970 and was looking to upgrade to a higher spec graphics card for better performance. I've heard about the GTX 1080 although it is quite expensive. Although the GTX 1070 seems to be the one to go for. I've looked around and I can't find a clear answer to what the Fps and performance difference/impact would be on either on the GTX 1070 or 1080 against my 970. Don't really want to invest money on something when I'm not sure what the impact will be on it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. This is in P3D V3 Thanks

  11. It appears my 34 year old system is dying. I was pretty good with FSX and managing the add ons. I want to build a new system: Should I go with FSX or P3D? I know nothing about P3D and is the learning curve much? I just want to fly some PMDG planes 777, new 747 and 737NG. I want some add ons like FlyTampa and want to do some VATSIM flying - that's it. Will P3D be a hard transition? Secondly, here is the proposed system: Windows 10 pro ASRock Z170 Professional Gaming Motherboard i7 6700 OC to 4.6 GHz liquid cooling 32 GB DDR4 2666 MHZ ram 8GB Nvidia GeForce 1080 card 750 watt PS 1 tb SSD $3300 Is this system high end??? Sometimes I can do it... sometimes I can't. Sometimes I can look one way out of the plane and have 30 FPS then look the opposite way toward a terminal or hanger and it drops to 25 FPS. I avg about 24 FPS while on the ground. Once airport and heading up I hit 30 FPS in the VC. I am ALWAYS at 30 FPS outside the plane, regardless of being on the ground or in the air and can …

From last month, not sure if you guys have seen it. http://wccftech.com/intel-core-i7-7700k-core-i5-7600k-overclock/ It seems Kaby Lake has a much thicker PCB than Skylake, so issues with bending when installing coolers and "vice method" delidding shouldn't be an issue.

I'm having some difficulty sorting the wheat from the chaff on this subject. I am contemplating going with a single ~43 inch 4K tv instead of three 24" 1ms 1080p monitors. I am running a 4.5GHz (OC) 2500k cpu and GTX 1060 (3GB) gpu. AND, I'm not terribly tech savvy -- thus my question. Currently use FSX/Acceleration, but am likely to migrate to X-Plane 11 and/or P3D v3,4. (Reasonable 4K TV spec): What minimum, reasonable criteria should I assume in sourcing a TV? Hz? other?? I am hoping to not make another hardware purchase mistake! Regards, Brian

I am using a dedicated computer to run fsx/acceleration (box), with ORBX and a number of saitek devices. My current configuration is described below. I'll preface by noting that I am NOT particularly tech savvy, but am seeking advice on which component(s) would make the most sense to upgrade in order to realize improved fsx performance. Affordable redundent power supply! 700 Watt PSU but split into two modules. Both modules function together ordinarily, then if one module fails the other takes over. Avoiding any system downtime or component failure. The failed module is then simply replaced with a new module. https://www.overclock3d.net/news/power_supply/fsp_announces_their_new_700w_twin_series_redundant_psu/1

As the regulars here know, I’ve been a little absent from the whole PC and FS world until recently, so I’m looking for some up to date hardware advice, and have some specific questions… I appreciate there are numerous threads here on upgrading, but I'm after some specific advice please... It ‘appears’ that Intel are probably close to releasing a new CPU range. Does anyone know yet just HOW near this is and, if that’s so, are Skylake CPUs likely to fall in price? I’m quite sure there are other great boards, but I do want to stick with Asus. I’ve been looking at two boards; the Z170-A and the Z170 Deluxe (I will be overclocking). Much as I’d love the Deluxe, …

Great as it is, I’ve swapped out my Noctua NH-D14 air cooler, for a Corsair H115i AIO liquid unit. Quality wise I’m delighted. The Corsair unit appears to be of outstanding quality, but then I’ve come to expect nothing less from Corsair. HOWEVER, to achieve the 5ghz overclock I occasionally want, those 140mm Corsair fans are running at full tilt, and sound like a 747 on its run up!!!! Even at 80%, they're like a 737;-) Does the panel think it might be worth swapping the fans for Noctua items? I know they’re renowned for being quiet, but I wonder by just how much when running at top speed?

Hi all! Need your overclocking expertise!..I set up a 6700K system lately (see my signature), and tried to see how it overclocks yesterday. I got at 4.8Ghz at 1.4v with HT off. Max temp was 70C and I scored 1051 marks. I have the latest BIOS (F20) and in the BIOS settings I just changed the base frequency, v-core, HT-off and set the XMP profile. Timings was automatically set to 15-15-15-35 on Channel B. My cooler is a corsair H100i. I am wondering why I score so low, given the fact that the scores I see with the 6700K are from 1300-1500 marks. Is there any settings that I am missing maybe? Also does the mark reflects P3D performance? I mean, 20% mo…

Motherboard is Asus P8Z68-VPro with i7 2600k (gen1 & latest BIOS from Asus) I’ve had the CPU overclocked by varying amounts, from about 4.1 to almost 5ghz since fitting it, about 4 years ago. Something bizarre has now happened to my BIOS… I can no longer reset the board back to default stock settings. When I do, all settings EXCEPT the overclock, revert to default. Doesn’t matter what I do, the board reapplies the 4.4ghz overclock to the CPU. Tried ‘re-flashing’ the BIOS again with latest from Asus. The flash worked correctly, removing all my saved profiles, but STILL remains overclocked after using either F5 or the menu option. Not a major issue for me, …

Last year I tried to buy another 8 GB stick for my sandy bridge system. It was the same exact stick I bought off newegg 5 years ago - except it wasn't and kept BSOD my PC. I bought BF1 last night and boy does it stutter - apparently 8 GB is the minimum. So I went to look for the QVL ram list for my P67A UD4 B3 (gigabyte) board, and none of the pairs showed 8 or 16 GB. Does my board support 8x2? And should I buy 2133 MHz? I have 1866 now with a mild 4 Ghz overclock. Or should I get 1600 MHz? Does CAS stil matter? Any help appreciated!
