Hi , Is anyone using the Alienware Area 51 for P3D? I am about to launch down the path of a new computer... Up until know I have always built my own machines. Price is not the concern maxing out P3D and a good frame rate is the key objective Intel® Core™ i7-5930K Processor (6-cores, 15MB Cache, Overclocked up to 3.9 GHz w/ Turbo Boost) ntel® Core™ i7-5960X Processor (8-cores, 20MB Cache, Overclocked up to 4.0 GHz w/ Turbo Boost) Is it worth spending the extra on the 5960X? I am also thing about the SLI version. Cheers Andrew

  2. Hi. My main FS9/FSX kit may no longer be state of the art, but it runs both very well. Problem is, I spend long periods abroad for work: the last time I shipped my main PC, the journey shook it half to bits, so I leave it back in the UK these days. Until last month I was using a (10 year-old!) Dell XPS M1730 laptop, which finally died a death (new M/B needed, apparently). So it's time for a replacement. (I have no access to FS9 at all at the moment, which is almost unbearable!!). But as this is just a stopgap for when I am away, I really would rather keep the price within three figures, sterling. Once I return to the UK next year, I'll probably not use it all that muc…

Hello, If I would consider changing my old 2600K to 4790K or 5820K, which one makes more sense for P3Dv2.5? 2600K is running at 4.6Ghz (it will do 4.8Ghz unstable, and 4.7Ghz relatively stable). Custom water-cooling setup. GPU: GTX980. I'd expect to overclock the 5820K to 4.5Ghz and 4790K to 4.7Ghz. The primary concern is to maximize the CPU-based performance, usually needed with addons like NGX and 777. The GTX980 does the job nicely in all aspects. Also does anybody know what kind of performance-jump I'd expect at the same clock? Thank you.

Just for everyone's information -- it looks like the first Skylake chips and motherboards will be out August 5th, and priced about 10% higher than Devil's Canyon. http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/unlocked-intel-skylake-s-processors-reportedly-coming-august-5th/ http://www.winbeta.org/news/week-pc-hardware-skylake-pricing-graphics-monstrosities-and-brain-memcomputer I wonder how soon the first FSXMark11 results will be available?

I consider myself relatively knowledgable when it comes to IT and home-computers. Yesterday my computer seems to give in, like completely. I can very rarely boot, BIOS doesn't work with memory XMP settings, there are no overclocking-options for the CPU any more (they are completely missing), if I put anything more than a keyboard/mouse OR network-cable, the screen doesn't come up (no, it's no the GPU since it's working at times), BIOS flashback works only partially (I have to flash it 2-3 times), CMOS reset and battery-out brings no help, sometimes working with only one RAM, slot doesn't matter etc. I reckon that the mainboard died, and possibly CPU has some damage a…

Hi All, I'm trying to build my dream gaming machine to run flight simulator x and occasionally other games that aren't really intense such as sim city I really want to run add ons, such as PMDG, ORBX, CARENADO, UK2000, REX TEXTURES DIRECT, ACTIVE SKY NEXT with glorious frames and smoothness I've never built a system before and this is my first and probably last due to financial family commitments so I need to get it right. I've discussed this list with a friend but he doesn't play FSX so I really need some advanced input from the experts of system building and FSX I have a budget of £1500. So far we've come up with this: -- Intel Core i7 4790K 4GHz S…

  7. Hey guys, I have a Windows 7 gaming rig with the OS installed on a 60gb OCZ SSD. There is absolutely no space left, even when disk cleanup automatically runs. I also have 2 500gb HDDs that are dedicated for programs on one and files/backups on the other, both fine space-wise. I have a spare Samsung 850 Evo 120gb SSD I picked up a while back, and I would like to transfer the OS SSD over. I have read that the best way to do this is a clean install, but I do not have my Win7 install disc anymore. Could I trust the Samsung software to transfer everything, and then make my new SSD the boot drive? And would that fix all the problems? Kinda a side question, what happens…

  9. This thread is only to share with avsim my experiences with the FX8350 as an FSX CPU. It is not meant to compare with other processors or to debate on which is better. It is only to meant to provide insight to someone who may be interested in using this processor in their FSX build. This is only my experience, your mileage may vary. I assembled this build primarily for use in FSX and a few other PC games. Its fairly budget oriented with no real high end components. Does anybody have a suggestion for speakers for FSX. I use my headphones for ATC and the speakers for engine and environment. If I play my engines in my headphone they sound great but thru the speakers it is so so. I tried a different set a speakers but they were too bright and the ones I have now aren't bright enough. I have played with EQ and such but can't find the sweet spot. Is onboard sound good or should I get a sound Card? Also the speakers I'm looking at are the Logitech z623. Right now my speakers are Logitech Z313. Music and other things sound great it is just FSX that doesn't sound that good. Any suggestion please. Josh

My system runs FSX-SE very well most of the time except on occasion with PMDG and some A2A aircraft under heavy load. . The problem Im having is all of my 4 CPU cores max out at 100% on a regular basis (i2500k OC to 4.7ghz) My GPU a gtx 560 ti sits at 50-60% load most of the time Now when the cores all max out at 100% FSX stops rendering the scenery and it goes Blurry. When this is going on Im monitoring My GTX 560ti as well and its hardly even stressed. Im due for a system upgrade this year some time but in the meantime any ideas why my Cores are regurly maxed out and what I can I do about that? I have 8GB of RAM (snipers) and running on WIN 7

Dear community, I need to upgrade my desktop PC for a machine capable of running FSX much better. At the moment, I'm looking for a PC with the following specs: http://postimg.org/image/v11nj5qlj/ (memory = 16GB HYPERX 1600MHZ DDR3 CL9 DIMM) Any comments/suggestion? Btw, I also look into All-in-One PCs with 23" but I couldn't find one with decent specs to run FSX smoothly? Intend to use some PMDG aircraft addons and some sceneries. Aim for the better graphic performance as possible without compromising the performance (frame-rates). Thank you!

  16. Welp being a long time FS9 user I decided I would try and go for FSX. I own the boxed version but decided to go and buy the Steam version of FSX. My current rig runs FSX ok and obliviously AMD processors are a no no for a simulator like FSX. I did however try my hand at X-Plane 10 this past week. I'm quite impressed with it. Runs good on my system but its just lacking in a lot of great quality payware scenery and a weather engine. So I'm going back to FSX. Been doing some searches and stuff and I think I got down what I need to make FSX run better than what it does on my current rig. Trying to keep the cost below $750 My current Rig GPU: GeForce GTX 650Ti CPU: AMD Phen…

  18. Hi folks, As the title suggests I'm upgrading my computer and just wanted some advice. I have an antec 1200 case and want to install a corsair h80i cooler on the rear exhaust fan slot with an ASUS Maximus Vii Hero motherboard. I'm just a bit worried that the h80i thick and not fit onto the back of the case as the heatsinks on the Vii Hero board around the CPU area are quite large. Can anyone on the forums help me out as to whether this will fit. Many Thanks, Chris

I heard these babies can overclock to 4.8 GHZ -- http://techreport.com/review/26735/overclocking-intel-pentium-g3258-anniversary-edition-processor/3 If FSX/P3D are so dependent on CPU clock speed, is performance relatively good for such a relatively cheap CPU? I am currently running a Intel 2500k OC to 4.5 GHZ and wondering if it would outperform it.

I am curious: I have an Asus P8 Z77-V Pro Motherboard with I7-3770K (not oc) running a Boxed FSX. I am presently using the Onboard sound which I find delivers a good sound through a digital connection to an external amplifier and surround speakers. Will I gain anything by installing a dedicated sound card? Are there any reasons to do it?

I've been getting this odd bug lately in my Win7 PC. I'll boot up the PC for the day. I don't touch anything, then when I move my mouse it freezes, says windows explore.exe has stopped responding. I restart it, everything comes back. Sometimes it freezes again and the second time I restart it everthing works fine. I think it may be related to my issues I've been having in Battlefield 4 - in game, doesn't matter what server... my games totally freezes for a few seconds, then I'm back playing again. All drivers are up to date. I'm scanning for malware now but I did check a few months ago for stuff. I use MWB and windows defender or MSE. Also note odd n…

Hi, I recently did a new build of a 4790K with an ASUS Z97-AR board and tried the automated tuner function which basically runs a stress test while monitoring temperature. It incrementally raises the multiplier until it reaches a temp that is too high then dials it back one. While running this test it found that 4.8 GHz was too high and dialed it back to 4.7GHz. This appeared to be creating temps in the low 80 degC range while under stress test. Should I trust this program to do this tuning and assume 80 deg is acceptable (there seems to be some debate on line about this). I know ASUS has a pretty good reputation as a MB manufacturer. Just a little concerned …
