I've been running it overclocked at 4.7ghz for years. In the meantime I've spent zero time keeping up with the ivy and haswell stuff and their benefits. Is there any practical reason to upgrade given the architecture of FSX/P3D? When the 5xxxC stuff comes out, will there be any reason to upgrade? My GPU is a GTX 970.

Well, I spend a lot of time doing a wonderful job building my new system. Routing cables just right and all. It looks real nice at least. So, I fire it up and start loading Windows 7 pro, all is great. It's fast and seems good. I get a few Windows updates installed and get to the point where Windows need to install SP1. Then she starts shutting down. No warning, no nothing. Just turns off like someone pulled the plug. I restart and look at the CPU temps since my heat sink was stock. They're higher than I think they should be, not it seems odd to turn off. Just for the heck of it I go buy a nice Corsair water cooler. It's nice and seems to work great. Temp…

So I'm bulding a new PC that will feature a i7 4790K and well as a GTX 970. These two things as well at a Asus Z97-A can kill a wallet. So I'm trying to cut cost on a SSD and HDD solution. My question is; is it possible to have a PC with only a SSD and if so is their any problems I will face? Also if I choose to buy a HDD only, what will I miss out if I had used a SSD? (Keep in mind I will be running P3D on this new computer) Thanks!

I've been running an Asus P8Z77-V motherboard on a homebuilt PC for 3 years with no issues. Suddenly today I have USB connection problems with my flight controllers. I have several items plugged into USB: CH yoke, CH pedals, CH throttle quadrant, Logitech joystick, Logitech mouse, and two external drives. The flight controllers suddenly have connection problems, with the USB connection cutting in and out (making that Windows soft "dong" USB connection sound). This happens plugging different controllers into different ports - all four controllers, or just one. However the mouse connection remains steady, and plugging a USB thumb drive into a port works fine also. It…

In an effort to figure out what's causing my stutters in FSX and P3D I'm posting a pic of my task manager processes section. Do any of these look out of the ordinary? Punkbuster file is normal that's for Battlefield 4.

Hi community, I need some advice please on new hardware. Please note that I do not want to overclock, I just need to know if I have any other options outside of my planned ugrade. I have not kept up with hardware development. Currently I am running an Intel i5 3570k Ivy Bridge at 3.4Ghz, with 8Gb RAM, a Geforce 660ti Video card, a 128Gb SSD for the sim, and Windows 7 64-bit. At the moment, frame rates at 1920x1080 on my Samsung 27" monitor are nearly perfect, but I still get some lag with texture loading despite the fact that I have optimised my sim. As I see it, my only true option for an upgrade will be to buy a new motherboard, and an Intel i7 4790k Devils …

Time for a partial rebuild, as adding FTX scenery has reduced this scenario to a single-digit stutter city on my current FX-6300 desktop. Obviously, a new CPU/MB are in the offing. Not looking for the latest-and-greatest, necessarily, or wanting to wait for Skylane…but, can you get decent performance (20+ FPS and smooth) working at FTX's recommended settings in this scenario and, if so, briefly list your CPU/MB/GPU/RAM? I'm looking for a combination which others have tried and that I thus know has a good chance of working. Thanks!

I currently have about 8GB of RAM, and it's almost time to build a new PC, and I was wondering if 16GB is overkill if I want to also play games like GTA V, which can barely run on my machine which is only three, or four of years old. I took a look at what GTA V uses and it seems to be mostly GPU. I seem to remember that FSX or FSX-SE (possibly too though I haven't checked, and can't anymore at present check) seemed to heavily draw on RAM, and processor. Is this still true with FSX-SE? FSX is not the only thing I will be using that requires a lot of juice, though it is one of the primary things I am thinking of.

Hello, I've run into a small problem that's a little annoying. I left my computer in my parents basements as I've been in the US for 7 months. Pretty constant atmosphere. Coming home I obviously expected it to work as I left it, but that didn't happen. I got no post. Only a Q LED for CPU. Tried reseating it. No bend pins. I've checked some of the PSU 12V with a multimeter. Here are the specs: i5 4670k (was overclocked at 4400mhz) Maximus VI Formula G Skill F3-2133C9D-16GTX Asus GTX 770 Corsair H100i Cosair HX750 PSU Evo 750 SSD There is no visible damage. I have a sixth sense that the CMOS battery may be dead. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Kind Regards, Marti…

Hi all, I finally got the PMDG 737 NGX update installed and the FPS has increased by a few. I am just curious as to measures I could take to improve my frankly dire FPS further. My specs are below and they run other games decently, although the PC is over a year old now. I currently get around 12-17 FPS over areas such as London in the PMDG on settings shown below. I also have Orbx FTX England and FTX Wales installed and running. I get around 30FPS in the countryside and I am happy with between 24-30 FPS. I am also using Rex Essential with Overdrive and using the HD cloud textures, as well as some nice textures for the runway, taxiways e.t.c. I have already tried running …

After a recent rebuild several months ago, I chose the Samsung 250gig EVO SSD as a dedicated FSX/P3D drive. The performance was exceptional UNTIL I began to run out of disk space because of the duplicity in addons for FSX and P3D. I considered upgrading to a 500gig SSD, but the cost just didn't justify it. I recently read an article on SSHD's Hybrid in a computer mag so thought I'd give it a try - $A98 for a 1TB Seagate SSHD wasn't going to break me. I bought a 2.5 inch size for my desktop, with the reasoning that if it didn't work I could always update my Laptop hardrive. After installing, in the now vacant Samsung SSD bay I copied over my FSX and P3D Folders, added …

Trying to build a new PC for P3D. I have read a lot of topics and still don't understand whether my P3D would benefit from SSD, except for faster load times for Windows. Any advise would be much appreciated. Planning to have 2 drives eventually.

So after flying on FSX for the past few years, I've decided to update my tank of a laptop and invest in a new Desktop to run P3D. So far I've roughly built up these specs, trying to keep in mind that i don't want to spend to much and also get the best for the buck. Intel Core i7-4790K @4.0Ghz ASUS Z97-A EVGA GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0 Corsair 750D Western Digital Blue 1 TB HDD Samsung 850 EVO 120GB SSD Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 Mem. Asus 24x DVD-RW Serial-ATA Internal OEM Optical Drive Corsair H80i Hydro CPU cooler With these specs in mind I stumble to find a cheap Power supply that gives me at least 750W. I'd like to …

Recently released BIOS update for usERS of ROG Maximus series. Looks like additional coding to support 5th gen I series 1150 processors. You are advised to update you VGA drivers as well should you plan on updating your CPU to the new Broadwell processor. Go to your support-driver download section on Asus website.

Hello all, I am almost ready to order my new computer, which will be custom made for me by my local computer dealer. I have spent quite some time to find out which components I would like to have. The outcome is a PC, which relies on the latest technology, a brand new GPU and some other fine parts. I know, that the machine is maybe "overpowered" for FSX/P3D, but I want a PC, which has some potential and "longevity". Of course, there are cheaper solutions possible, but I am ready to spend some money on it. So I would like to ask you experts, to tell me if you want, whether I made some major mistakes in selecting the parts. Coolermaster - CM Storm Stryker …

I've gone through all the steps to get this working but I simply cannot Ideally I'm trying to do this to help my grandfather many miles away. But before I even attempt this I need to get it working to a PC on the LAN. Host PC: Win7x64 Pro Firewall allows for RDC RDC enabled with "any version of RDC" ticked I only have one account as admin, but I did just now create a password. I can see the other PC on the network, we're both in WORKGROUP I can ping the other PC on the network from Host. I've tried connecting to the name of the remote PC, I've tried the IP with 3389 as the port.....no luck I've added me as a user. Remote PC: Win7 Home Premium Firewa…

bit of dilemma for me I'm going to buy an ssd and an sshd but unsure the best options for a muti sim setup, so i'm looking for advice on what's the best config. I'm going to get the seagate 2tb sshd ,its a bit overkill as i still have other slower 5400rpm drive that will remain installed but the price difference between 1 and 2 tb is minimal. I'm also going to get an ssd drive probably one of the samsung ones but really not sure on size. As part of the upgrade I will move the operating system onto the ssd but after that i'm not sure weather to put fsx,p3d on the ssd or the sshd. I know it will speed up load times if they are on the ssd but not the speed of t…

Good morning from the west coast, I purchased an Aukey 7 port USB 3.0 hub model CB-H4. The new hub also has a plugin power supply on the side so it supposedly doesn't need to pull power from the moboard. But every time i would fire the computer up and around 5-15 minutes after being on the PC would restart with no BSOD. The event viewer listed Kernel-power as the error and I logged all my temps and there were no issues there. So I removed the USB hub which is the only change I made to the system and have been flying on VATSIM for 3 hours with no issues. I am mainly writing to ask if I should be worried about my power supply. The PSU is 4 years old and it is rated a…

I used HD Tune trial before to know when my 840 Evo encountered read issues early this year. But that trial period is long gone. Is there a freeware program that can tell me something? I've used crystal disk but from my understanding that only write and reads a new portion of the SSD. And the Samsung 840's have issues with old sectors.

Hey guys, Getting back into flight sim. I am by no means a hardware (or software) guy, but my brother is much more knowledgeable and he has put together a proposed build for my new flight simming computer. Would appreciate any feedback on this rig's capabilities with respect to what I want to do. Right off the bat I will be using FSX and DCS, but might check out X-Plane 10 and other stuff down the road. I would like to use FSX with some photo-real scenery and payware aircraft such as the A2A C182 with TrackIR smoothly. The specs can be found here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GX4Yzy (The build is already a little over the max budget I had in mind) So what do you …
