Hi guys, I'm getting tired of my custom build PC. It's switching itself off after just a few mins of running. I only just fitted a new mobo two months ago. I feel the best way forward is to buy something new with a warranty. My question is will the latest IMac i7 27" with windows 7 64 bit replacing apple OS run FSX with all my payware/ add ons? To include: PMDG aircraft + other 3 rd parties ie wilco photographic scenery for the whole of the UK UK2000 extreme airports. I have found other people have had success but never mention they have extreme pay ware like me and have heard frame rates being an issue (but not sure if that was the early ones). …

I am curious. In the absence of any other bottlenecks does an increase in CPU speed directly proportional to an increase in FPS Assuming I have an i7-2600 that has a turbo clock of 3.8GHz and I get 30 fps. If I upgraded this processor or overclocked to 4.4GHz (a 16% increase) could I expect a 16% increase or roughly 35 fps (is this the ideal advantage). Or is it some other relationship, one that could be expect to yield even more fps or perhaps even less Thanks for your input and thoughts

  3. G'day all, Having read the general forums + Avsim, I'd summarise the status quo as: 4790K is certainly the most popular choice for gaming builds in a non-flightsim sense if you're chasing high performance (there are a LOT of threads outside Avsim addressing this topic!) Haswell E is popular if you're rendering or doing other tasks that use the six cores effectively. For flightsim with FSX, single-core performance is king, and the 4790K is the champ in this regard. I'm about to embark on a new system build in the next few days. I'm still using a computer that I build for FSX 4 years ago (overclocked i7 950), but now it's time to move on. Obviously there's lots …

Hi all, So after about a 5 year gap from FS, I am back slowly but surely trying to get into it and update my FS world! Have spent the last few weeks updating things in the sim such as AI traffic and also some popular airport sceneries. I like to fly commercial jets so most of the time from big hubs like LHR, JFK etc so have the detailed sceneries. MY PC used to cope pretty well but now as scenery and things have developed my PC is starting to strain and i put it mostly down to the RAM as I only have 2GB (2x 1 GB Corsair 800MHz). I am planning to upgrade my ram but as I have been out of the picture for a while and I am not the most "tech savvy" person then i thou…

Hi, I have a strange issue with my new PC, that I am hoping some of our more tech savvy members might be able to advise on. My PC is brand new, and just has P3d and associated programs on it. It's also pretty powerful, I have been transferring over files of photoscenery and mesh from my old PC. I might add I am running the tech preview of win10, and its been performing brilliantly so far. However, today, it suddenly started freezing windows in explorer, I copy a folder over and for the next 5 minutes after the files are copied, my CPU is at 30 -40% and the windows will freeze . you can force explorer to restart and stop this, and I have run full malware scan, and syst…

Hello all, I have a decent spec PC for FS9 and my addons. I have acquired a new Apple Thunderbolt display and setting FS9 to full resolution, results in low FPS. So, instead of reverting down to a smaller resolution or a smaller screen at the same small resolution, I thought a new processor and/or graphics card wold be suffice? I own an ASUSTek Leonite Motherboard with a Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe (Socket 775 LGA) at 1.86GHz. I don't want to overclock as the motherboard is restricted by Compaq's flashed BIOS..? I also own a NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT and 4GB of System RAM. I have seen some Socket 775 LGA CPUs on eBay, in some instances double the frequency! In order to use …

  7. Hi all, Just had a very quick question regarding temperatures for the i7 4770k CPU. I posted a thread regarding this issue almost a year ago and got some great feedback, but wanted to revisit this particular issue as I'm looking at making the jump to FSX-SE anyway. Currently, I have my CPU overclocked to 4.2 GHz. When I run FSX using an ORBX scenery and a Carenado plane, my max temp (according to HWMonitor64) reaches 68C. However, I can't seem to tell if it just spikes at 68C or if that is sustained throughout my flights. Just to experiment, I loaded up my default CPU profile and brought all the OC numbers back to stock. When I recreated the flight as closely as I…

I'm currently in the parts purchase phase of my new i7 build. I've been looking on PCPartPicker and have notice a lot of new builds aren't running designated sound cards. Have we progressed that far that on board sound is the norm now? Keep in mind my last build was about 10yrs ago when the E8600 wolfdale was new. I'm currently running a Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro on my current system and have upgraded this build to the Asus Maximus VII Hero. Any benefit to dropping in my X-Fi? Comments? Thanks

I have just realised that my computer is now 5 years old and having recently received an unexpected bonus from the workplace, I was considering a few upgrades. I should start by saying that the computer is running very well and the spec is below: i7 940 @ 2.8 O/C to 4GHz Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600 ASUS P6X58D-E MoBo 1280MB MSI V801, GTX 470 x 2 (SLI) Some from of SSD Is this worth upgrading? I was looking at the following but I didn’t want to unnecessarily waste cash. 32GB Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Pro Series Red, (2133), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 11-11-11-27 2 x 250GB Samsung 850 EVO, 2.5" SSD, 3D V-NAND, SATA 6Gbps, Read 540MB/s, Write 520MB/s 4GB EVGA GTX 980 Supercloc…

I fly FS2004 on a laptop. The laptop is not a shabby performer, but I've never entirely gotten rid of stuttering - even on FS9. The game stutters badly when increasing mip levels on terrain tiles - and gets even worse when using addon scenery. The delay in loading terrrain textures must surely be due to a slow component somewhere, but I don't know quite where. I suspect that the hard-drive is old and slow and that switching to an SSD would fix the issue, but before I pull the trigger, I'd like your input on identifying the issue, as RAM or graphics card issues are a possibility. I was looking to buy a dedicated P3D PC. Having trawled this forum the i7 4790k and the GTX 970 4GB seem to hit the sweet spot on price/performance, plus an SSD to increase loading speed. I saw this on uk ebay for £1079, which seems to have all the basics, at a reasonable price. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Z97X-Intel-i7-4790K-240GB-SSD-2TB-16GB-970-GTX-4gb-Windows7-8-Gaming-Pc-Computer-/161090412671 Agreed, not the fastest memory, or most powerful power supply - but do you think it might do the job, or are there serious flaws somewhere? Hello all Avsimmers I just ordered at new PC since my old rig is on the edge of running FSX. Here is my new setup: - asus maximus VII ranger Z97 - Intel Core i7 4770K 3,5 GHz (Haswell) - Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) CL9 1866MHz Vengeance - Gigabyte GTX 980 4GB OC - EVGA Supernova G2 750W, 80+ Gold My question to guys, ofcourse some feedback on the setup but also another one. I noticed on the website i ordered it there also was a Intel Core i7 4790K with 4.0GHz out of the box for about 20$ cheaper. So should i go with the 4770K 3,5GHz and maybe OC it to 4.0 - 4.2 GHz or the 4790K 4.0GHz out of the box. I appreciate all your feedback. Best regards Nicko

Hi simmers, My Raptor HDD has only about 200Gig capacity. So I'm upgrading to SSD 500Gig. I've got to many add ons, etc. I would like to know from someone that has done this upgrade to his rig the pros and maybe cons. Obviously it has to make the speed (Iop's) faster and so on. Is it noticeable? Does it make FSX faster? Is it worth it? An overall opinion. Thanks a million in advance. jcpg(john)

Hey everyone. Within the next few months I will be purchasing parts to build a new Flight Sim PC. I want my build to run fsx and payware addons well, but I'm not expecting constant 30 fps in dense areas with FSX and or P3D completely maxed out. I also cannot spend more than $1000 on the parts, preferably in the $900-950 range. I think I've got a bottleneck with my memory. I have a six screen 1920X1080@ set up (p3dv2.3) in windowed mode for a single view with a Titan Black Superclocked and a Titan black each driving 3 screens. 21. I'm sure most of you have seen that about half a year ago there was an issue found with the performance of the very popular Samsung 840 EVO SSD drives. Read performance can basically crawl to a standstill. I've seen people post about it here on AVSIM and on many other sites on the internet. Samsung say that not necessary all drives are affected and they have posted a fix for this issue on their website. The predecessor 840 (non EVO or PRO) also seems to have the problem but Samsung have not produced a fix or even acknowledged it. I have a 1TB 840 EVO used solely for FSX photo scenery but for various circumstances I've not been using FSX for basically half a year. The othe…
