I'm in a bit of a dilemna here. I've installed AS2, but also have the new FSUIPC. Since doing so, I've experienced a couple of random CTD's out of the blue which I've never had before. One was on an aircraft that could be suspect, but one was on a machine that I've used a fair bit. One was coming in to Port Hardy BC, one was approaching STD (a VOR south of Bergen, Norway. The only common factor between the 2 was AS2, but I'm not at all ready to point the finger at AS2 at this time. I was wondering if anyone else is having random CTD's and just hasn't said anything until they've done further testing. If not, then I won't waste time doing a whole bunch of test flight…

HiI sent this message via email, before I remembered there was a support forum, so therefore I have repeated my comments here :- No doubt your latest release is very good but.... I just have to say well done in managing to alienate WeatherCentre 2 customers. You have more or less stopped development of WeatherCentre 2, which I bought about 3 weeks before you took over, (any existing problem/bugs will not be fixed), but have ripped the good bits out of it and merged it with ActiveSky technology. As a way of a thank you, you have kindly offered a discount to ActiveSky users, and stuck your middle finger up at WeatherCentre users. Congratulations, you have really encouraged …

I understand that AS2004's main purpose is to work with real time weather, whether is's used on- or offline.I, for my part, would sometimes like to create random weather for some area like the program "Wetter 2004" does, but at the same time, i't like to get all the benefits AS2004 incorporates. My question now is if it's possible to generate weather and then use AS2004 to fly within it without having AS2004 generating new weather by itself and thus kind of overwriting the previous one?Andreas

Noticed on a flight today, if your at FL high enough for contrails you get this ground 'fog' cloud that follows under your plane in a circle and at the same speed you are going.. So a cloud moving a 500mph+ looks a bit silly. :( I could NOT get rid of this either while at a Flight level high enuff to produce contrails. I cleared all weather thru both FSUIPC & FS2004. Then refreshed the weather and everytime if I was producing a contrail I got the ground cloud. If I wasn't at a level high enough for a contrail I wouldn't get the ground cloud. I didn't seem to matter on the ground visability either in lots of reporting stations I saw zoom by below me they were 10 or m…

Last night I experienced a series of those sudden and really annoying changes in wind direction over the space of a few minutes. Not severe enough to tear the wings off, but slinging the nose back and forth rather violently. It started approximately midway between KDFW and KOKC. This is probably the point where FS9 was trying fill in the gap between KDFW weather and KOKC weather, and failing miserabley at it as usual. Has anyone noticed if AS2004 is able to mitigate this behavior to tolerable levels?

Jim or Damien,I installed fs9 a few weeks ago. After getting rid of the lousy FPSI installed wxRE on FS9. And now each time I am getting shortly after activating wxRE flashing. I am convince this is NOT an AS problem. Could it be a RAM problem? I have presently 512 MB for the motherboard and 128MB for the Radeon 9800 Pro video card. I have ordered an extra 512MB that I am still waiting. I think and hope that this will fix the problem. What are your opinion ?Roger

Damian & Team:I've found that after loading an FS2004 .pln, I'll be cruising along, and decide to recheck the Flight Log, only to find that I get a dialog box telling me I need to enter a flight plan via New Route first.I actually had this happen twice in a flight from KCAE to KCLE last night. After some period of time, AS2004 just seems to forget that a flight plan has been entered.Any ideas?James

Damian, Just wanted to let you and everyone involved with AS2004 know that you did a fine job on this program. I fly almost exclusively with the PMDG 737NG. I have completed a couple of flights with the plane and AS2004 and all went well. The weather generation and rendition is far and away better than the default. The few little glitches I have encountered have been mostly solved by "tweaking" here and there and RTFM. Thanks again for all your hard work, and also the new server is great!

Paid me bucks with heightened anticipation for this new release of AS, only to find myself re-enjoying default FS weather. On first glance, weather looked very interesting, but low and behold, even at the lowest cloud setting (low, on the slider at the bottom of the interface, and 100% 3D, clouds out to only 30 miles), performance SUCKS WIND. Moreover, there is an annoying stutter every 6-8 seconds, unless of course I disable UPDATES. Even with this performance is horrid compared to default. Then I go to the NWS via the nifty kneeboard, and see recent reports of 2 miles visibility at Glacier Intl. AS2004 shows lots of cool, performance sapping clouds, but with quite …

I too have been plagued by the weather gods in FS trying to turn my airplane into a high-priced pretzel, but I think it is important to note the difference between actual windshear and just plain turbulence. Now I'm sure most of you guys have this figured out already, but perhaps for some folk who aren't real world pilots (i.e. the sane folk here :-)), the difference might be a little hard to see. Actual windshear (in the "dangerous" form) is something that will cause the aircraft to gyrate wildly, suddenly lose/gain a whack of airspeed (20 or greater knots in a second or two), and/or something that will cause it to suddenly climb or plummet to the heavens/ground respec…

Hi guys - Curious about the startup sequence described in the manuals. My usual startup with WxRE was to have it start with FS9 ( using RunOptions). I'd set up my flight and click refresh on WxRE and go from there. Worked perfectly well for me.I've done the same so far with AS2 and everything seems OK but since the order in contrary to that recommended - I thought I'd check and see what you think - pro/con?So far all else is chugging nicely - haven't noticed anything unusual..Thanx,Vic Baron

Got the WX radar to work, and wx is looking great. Well, rainy in Seattle, but it's now showing on the radar and the right info. is showing as well.Damian's tip, to point the connector to the ActiveskymodulesActivesky2004 (the folder with the export_wx.rad (sp?) was the right one)Once I did that, restarted, found some weather and brought up wx radar it worked. Now, I need to get the wx radar to display over on the second monitor. I can drag it over, but as soon as it touches another window, I lose it forever. Ctrl-F12 brings it back, but for just a second, then it disappears.BUT, it works!!Thanks Damian for the tip.

First I take no claim that this will work for you...so don't flame the sender please. I removed ActiveRadar by using the Add/Remove Programs option from the Control Panel. Then I deleted the remapped drive I had created trying to get it to install in the first round of fixes. Then I created a new remapped link all the way to the Activesky2004 folder and called it Z:Then I reloaded the ActiveRadar connector program and let it just install in the default F:AS2004 to get it installed. (That does not install anything to F:, it creates a directory there but more importantly it just creates the path in the H-Key registry) My F: was a Zip drive, so make sure there is a piece of …

Damian,There is still something wrong with the wind layers. I've read manual three times, checked every FS/FSUIPC settings and i still get those nasty shears. Hope this will help you to reproduce...Comments* Aircraft Embraer 145 by N.Botamer + panel by B.Grabowski* FSUIPC version is 3.135* FS and AS2k4 startup as in the manual* During whole flight i was monitoring wind direction/strength using output from Shift+Z* Obviously i wasn't taking notes of smooth wind changes* During climb and cruise i had few 10 to 15 degress changes, these also aren't noted* During descend and landing the wind was very stable with smooth changesAttachments* lhdc-epkt.pln - flightplan i've used…

Hi all.Im not trying to kiss butt here, or Shout people down. Its obvious that AS will reduce FPS, as it is truly doing the weather. FS Default weather only delivers half the weather that AS does. Its Simple, AS is giving a true weather report. Ive tried this hundreds of times, and I am more than willing to bet my life savings on this fact.Ive written some strong comments in here, But its a fact that AS is doing exactly as it says on the tin. The weather from FS will provide better FPS, as its not really that accurate, and dosent give you the true weather.I would suggest, that you USE FSky world FPS textures, and just ignor the recomended settings, and play with them untill…

Hi,I too have been wanting to purchase ActiveSky but from what I've been reading in these threads, its been a disaster. Perhaps it was released to early? Just curious. Having used the old ActiveSky I'm confident Damian will correct the problems. The purpose of my post is to find out whether HiFi believes the problems will be corrected soon or if they'll have to wait til MS releases the weather SDK. I currently have FSMeteo and I know a lot of what people are expressing here are also prevalent in FSMeteo. The stutters during weather changing and sharp wind shifts for example are also prevalent in FSMeteo. Would like some input before making the purchase. Thanks.

Is anyone having the same difficulty as I am having getting Active Radar to accept and load an FS9 flight plan? I use the dialogue presented by the Plan display's MSFS button to select the same flight plan with which I loaded FS9 and ActiveSky (no problem with either of those), hit the Update All button and - nada. No Departure, arrival or enroute data is presented; just a stubborn "Flight plan not loaded" message in the tracking panel. I removed lat/long fixes from the plan thinking that their presence might be the problem, but that didn't work either. Radar seems to work. The fact that one has to go through two flight plan load procedures is klunky, but both proced…

Wow, what a great program. I am a new user to ActiveSky and am amazed at the realism. I'm running on a P4 3.2 Ghz with Fx5900 card and for some reason the sound stutters when the radar is loaded. I'm not having any problems with just the weather loaded (no matter how dense the weather is), only whenever I load the radar screen. I have disabled rendering to textures and made adjustments as stated in the manual, but I'm hoping to resolve this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi All,I would just like to comment that Activesky 2004 has raised the level of realism to FS2004.I also had a few issues with the setup, but after a bit of tweaking, i have managed to get the product to do as it says it will with minimal issues.Planned a test flight from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore using FSbuild 2, PMDG 737 SU2. Late afternoon departure. Weather for KL, fine and 32 degress, light winds and 3-4 OCTAS cloud coverage. The normal late afternoon rush on flight had me waiting for about 10 minutes for takeoff clearance.Departed off 32L, left turn and down the coast to WSSS. Checked the weather for Top of descent, expecting rain in singapore, with a TEMPO on the T…
