I received an invitation to be a beta tester for 2.0. When I tried to accept, I received a note saying my acceptance had been refused. That's fine with me, and I wish Damian success! But I do have an unusual set up in that AS runs on a separate computer connected via WideFS Client/Server and lots of time available for testing. If I was taken off the list in error, please write via AVSIM.com email. Thanks,Larry Jones

Hi All,I'm a total newbie to ActiveSky so forgive me if I'm doing something stupid, but I can't get the thing to install!!!After downloading from simMarket.com, I click the "Setup" file and after a few seconds of the eggtimer, nothing else happens. If I try to unzip the files I get a "error reading the file" message. I have downloaded the file twice from the site with exactly the same results. I'm running WINXP and have FS9 and FSUIPC V3.125 installed. There's nothing more depressing than paying and waiting for a download to finish (56k connection) only to find the software won't install. grrrr :(CheersJon

Hi Jim & Damian,I'm wondering which is the range of reception of AS wxRE winds aloft stations...I flew some transatlantic flight recently and I got good receipt of english stations (and winds accordingly set by wxRE) till about 400 NM out, then I got Reykiavik winds, then, for a while, wxRE got stuck to BIKF surface winds (not aloft), even if it was showing the Narsarsuq (Greenland) winds. I tride to refresh, to exit, cancel met settings in fs2002, then reloading, still the same. Also on the eastbound sectors the same: good aloft from Canadian stations, then for a good while Santa Maria (Azores) surface winds (even if the aloft for BIKF and Santa Maria were good and sh…

I bought AS a couple of days ago, and first off, let me thank you for a nice product. I don't want to sound like a whiner though, and this post is definitely not some sort of flame. At least I do hope that it isn't taken like that, because I'm not out to offend anybody, especially not the developers of ActiveSky which I do consider being a good add-on.However, I can't help but feeling a little bit disappointed in the product though. Having read the review of the product here at avsim, and the promising productdescription at hifisim's homepage, I decided to buy it. With a big smile, I installed it, fired it up, and started up FS. No problem there, everything ran smoot…

Hello all, I recently purchased AS v1.90 and really enjoy the program. Anyway, last night on a flight from KMSP to KMCW I was assigned vectors for the visaul approach to KMCW. The only problem is KMCW was reporting, and in fact was, 1/4 visibily and 100 ft overcast with indefinite ceiling; in otherwords, extremely unfavorable weather for a visual approach. Is ATC and Active Sky (AS) not comunicating properly? I had my destination wx forced with a distance of 70 miles.Any suggestions?I am using AS v1.90, FSUIPC v2.975, and Windows 98SE, and FS2002 Pro.Dane Pedersen

Hello Damian & Jim,I'm a long time user of wxRE and it works fine almost always. Just a sdumb question: how does wxRE habldes the PROB (probability) modifiers in TAFs ? I tried to sort it out in many flights, but I didn't find evidence of handling these PROB...Example: let's imagine we got a TAF with the PROB40 RA string ? How does wxRE use this info ? Will it in about half the time put the rain ?Thanks.Enrico

It's with any aircraft I use, on any flight.I am currently in a flight from ATL to JFK, I have made a change I saw posted;"Brad,Please change these two lines:DisableForceWindUpdates(make it TRUE)DisableUpdatesWhenForced(Make it FALSE)Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support"I will advise if this works or not....current setup:--Most recent AS--FSUPIC unregistered version (Sorry Pete, when I got the cash I WILL register it!)--WinXP Pro--FS 2004I will advise in a little bit how it goes with these changes in place, along with screen shots and .ini files. Thanks,John Binner

  12. Hi all,I'm running FS2002 on the original Win98 release.I've been using ActiveSky for some time now and really like the program. A couple of days ago I installed v1.91 (was using 1.90 prior to this). At first I could download wx with this latest ver, but the past two days I have been unable to. I don't know if it's a coincidence or not. The program will say that it is downloading the METAR files, but even after 20mins there is only the CycleXX.WXD file or the file that has the METARXXZ.met file with only a couple of kb's in it. However the program still says it's downloading the files. After a half hour (it NEVER took that long before - maybe 10mins at most using the low …

It's a bit sneaky of me to ask this. Some softwares aimed at FS9 come with the latest version of the Peter Dowson's fsuipc module and install it into FS9. Then there are software upgrades (from FS2002 to FS9) that tell you you must purchase fsuipc latest version (Approx.$25) first. I want to get the Ultimate Traffic upgrade for FS9, but it tells to buy the fsuipc module first! I also want to get AS, and wonder it comes with a recent version of fsuipc that will save me that purchase. Sneaky question, but if I'm going to get AS anyways, might as well find out if it saves me money elsewhere...Eytan

Hi Damian,As i started moving forward to FS2004, i've noticed little problem.FSUIPC 3.x no longer offers "Taxi wind" option, which sets calm winds when on the ground. That's very, very beneficial when you don't have rudder pedals under your table ;)I did some research on Pete Dowson forum. He says it's a problem with new weather environment implemented in FS2004. As i'm not deep into this and my english is also a bit poor, let me quote Pete:"The problem is that when all the different local metar stations are set with their own specific local winds, it is not possible really to keep track of which ones should be set to 1 knot and which not, even if I knew them all (which I…

Hi guys,Just now I experienced something really weird. I was on climb out in the PMDG NG for a flight from ESSA to LFPG. Approx FL300, M0.781. I had a headwind of 210@40 approx. My own heading was 225.Weather provided by ActiveSky wxRE 1.91. I was just looking at the AS main screen wondering why I still had ESSA METAR station providing wx data but I was closer to ESKN station when suddenly I got an FMC message stating CHECK MCP ALT. I checked my current ALT and to my surprise it showed FL570!!! Speed had increased to 438 KIAS and my headwind had turned into a tailwind of 000@25!!! I paused the sim and saw that in that moment AS had changed METAR station from ESSA to ESKN.…

Hey Jim, flew 2004 last night, SNA to PDX. Weather at PDX reported as OVC070 and OVC050. I had puffy cumulus 1/10 coverage, LOL... This is after your suggested changes. Now it appears Activesky weather is not being imported at all or barely at all into 2004???? Winds a loft are not as they should be. This is arggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ;-)I'm going to get the latest fsuipc tonight and try it, but things are just getting worse it seems...Thanks,Lance

I have been wondering this now especially since there seems to be some issues with AS1.9 on FS9. But in general, why would you want to use AS over the built in weather in FS9?Is not the weather engine in FS9 good enough to generate weather for flight simming?

Sorry :-(Thank you very much in advance for your attention and help.Best regar…
