Well, another great flight in, but one issue came up, and I'm wondering if it is my technique? I did a flight from Sudbury (CYSB) to Montreal (CYUL) today using online/real weather. Taking off and enroute I got pretty much exactly what I had expected, based on the report from AS2. Now when I did my plan, I planned direct YYB, then direct CYUL. YUL was listed as 800 & 1 in snow (lucky buggers :-hah) and winds at 23017G22, so what I did was "radar vector myself" out to the east for the ILS to 24L. No sweat, except that just north of the city (just south of Mirabel), the skies suddenly went totally clear. YMX is only about 30 miles north, and this is a pretty big s…

Some more tinkering and I seem to be finding peace with some compromises here and there. I sure do not like downgrading to 32bit low res clouds, but I have been able to get decent perf using default hi res cloud textures. Some amazing features with AS2004 so it is getting better for me now. It does seem to be very accurate most of the time. Handles overcast much better for sure. I think the best will come when Chris Willis releases his next set of clouds that will probably be somewhere between the HiFPS 32 bit and default hi res.Cheers,NoelDamian: very nice work indeed.

A discount program is now in place for WC2 users wishing to purchase AS2004. Just go to SimMarket and order AS2004 as usual. The WC2 or wxRE order verification will happen automatically and at checkout you'll see the discount applied. Thanks everyone!-Damian

Hi, DamianCongratulations! Really, the AS2004 conception of his new architecture, stated in STATION-BASED weather processes, changes completely the simm flight experience. The HiFi Data Met server is (for me) the most important advance in AS2004. I am a dial up modem user, so you know of my past frustrations dealing whit the official MET servers. Now I get the complete files (Metar, Taf and Wind

Hello,At AS2004 startup I get a "Error Initializing - Check your INI file!" I checked the INI file.... just didn't know what was right or wrong, I hope you can help. After doing some tweaking with As2k4 yesterday, I did a full setup for my scheduled flight form KCLT->KPHX. I flew offline with Radar Contact running, and FSW clouds installed. The flight went as smoothly as I used to get with AS 1.9(2); but with a seemingly better weather presentation. I watched a small frontal system appear/develop in front of me as I was about 200 NM out of KPHX:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/53746.jpgI have my FPS locked at 17, and I didn't notice much draw-down until I got to KPHX (typically due to AI aircraft). But I did start getting whipped around by winds a little bit as I was decsending into Phoenix and the Pressure seemed to yo-yo too.…

In the last ActiveSky the metar, taf and winds was in a different file (easy to modify) but in the new version (AS2004) the three components is in one file ( very dificult to modify), is possible to return to the three file. This is important for many peple that metar

Hi I bought your product yesterday and it's great! Thanks :) I have a question about importing flightplans. Is there a simple way to import a PMDG flightplan into Active Sky?Thanks :)Regards Floris Hartog

Just a suggestion...any chance in a future update to AS2004 that on the Option page there can be a option that says "Ignore AUTO reports" ? AUTO metars are the least accurate but can throw a big swing in current conditions causing for periods of drastically different weather. Usually these reports come out of small airfields that are not manned. Or at least maybe just include conditions that are accurately measured by the auto weather system like winds, temperature, and altimeter. Flying the other day in the SFO area, I had weather all over the place and the radar was full of returns until I hit a AUTO weather station then the radar went to a big blank black circle. What …

First of all, my compliments not only on the program, but the manaul as well! The manual is clear, concise and does the job extremely well. That has saved a bunch of time in the end.I do have 3 very quick questions here from the manual as they pertain to the program's operations.1) What exactly does the time conversion factor mean to the program? What I'm confused on is that I live in the RW (well, some people might argue that I haven't lived in any kind of RW since getting FS, but that's another story... :-) )in Ontario, Canada. That means an offset of GMT-5 hrs. However, I often fly in BC, Canada (GMT-8) or Norway (GMT+1). I have the automatic TZ detection select…

Holy Moley!!!OK, it's still early on, and I suspect I have a question or two about obtaining a true overcast according to the wx reports in AS2, BUT, I think I just had about the most perfect flight I've ever done in FS9! Got the new/updated 421 from F1 (worked flawlessly from what I could tell), checked my Jepp simcharts, went through the steps in the AS2 manual and filed IFR from Trondheim to Namsos Norway, then blasted off into a reasonably cloudy sky. I'm using the new version of Norway Airports (INCREDIBLE!!) so I had a few minor stutters/jerkiness on the ground which was to be expected, but after that, it was as smooth as a baby's bum (don't ask, I don't know :-ee…

What's the verdict?Any cure for the flickering when AS2004 is activated ...?Please adviceRegardsT

DamianI just had to post this to set the record straight. I posted yesterday that since installing activesky I was experiencing problems with the auto throttle not working properly and suddenly going haywire during flight. I have been able to correct the problem as just before installing activesky I updated my ATI 9800 pro card to the new 3.10 driver. BY uninstalling the new driver and going back to the old the problem has been rectified. seems the 3.10 driver has a problem with activesky. I would be interested to find out if any else has experienced this problem using an ATI 9800 pro card and the new driver. Since changing the driver I am happy to say that I am now flyin…

I have AS 2004 installed. I like it but my PMDG 737 panel flickers on and off usually when going through clouds. Anyone notice this? I have a ATI 9600 Pro 256 MB video card, 756 RDRAMM, and a pentium1.4 ghz processor. Any solutions? Brad

Hello DamianI just want you to know that I stayed up pretty much all night read your manuals for AS2004. Finally getting it configured and trying it out, I was amazed. You deserved 2 thumbs up for what you acheive. I flew the Cessna 310 from Miami to Jacksonville, FL. AS2004 displayed the scattered towering thunderstorms around the airport and the higher cirrus clouds above. During the climb as I got closer the to storm clouds the plane rock and rolled. This has never happen before with the other weather generators. I felt like a real pilot. The turbulance was awesome, even when I was 1000ft above them. There was no pop up clouds during the whole flts. Transitions were sm…

I keep thinking I will hear that warning coming from the PMDG 737 in my flights using AS2004.I tried a flight today from KPIT to KIAH but had to make an emergency landing in KLIT because the we ran out of air sick bags. :-)I had easily over 3 dozen incidents of winds aloft updates that caused a violent nose shift, altitude loss/gain of over 200-300 feet or airspeed increase/drop of over 20 knots. It seemed the engines were almost constantly at full power because the FMC was trying to compensate for a change due to a wind update. It would just get the last one sorted out before it had to go full throttle again from another update. Good thing I had sufficient reserves as…

I landed this evening after an Airbus A330. He was at least 15nm in front of me when he landed. But, crashed due to a wake turbulence event. Right when I flaired, caught me, tossed me up, then down and into the runway.Wasn't I too far behind this big jet to have an issue with wake turbulence? Didn't notice anything on the glide slope, just when I was within 50ft of the ground.I've got it shut off for now as I do like to land at the end of a 3 hour flight.Any ideas?Jim

i never create flight plans with FS, i use SB or make my own flight plans. How do I import them if i dont create them in FS9? ThanksBrad

Hi All,The list of features looks very impressive and I have my credit card standing by but, I do have one important question. In areas high above sea level, will the clouds forming on the ground be fixed or is this beyond the scope of AS2004?Thanks,Mikehttp://www.members.shaw.ca/madamo/boeingsig.jpg

hi,congrats to your new product - long awaited!first impression was "ok" as i encountered severe stutters with my first flight (although cloud formation was impressive...). reboot didn't help as well as reducing AI or any other performance hitter.(Chris Willis cloud textures are installed together with other fs2004 tweaks)played with the different settings in fsupic as well as in as2004 ...changed "cloud layer limit" from 10 to 5 and voila, no more stutters.could u pls explain in more detail the cloud layer limit? what will/can be the impact in reducing this limit? i.e. no more solid overcast layer...?second, if i do not load any flightplan and therefore do not process it…

Hi,I just bought AS2004 and I'm having two problems using it...1) When I turn on Active Radar the sound starts to bump;2) When I change the larger Active Radar for the smaller active radar, it completely freezes my FS2004 screen. This happens no matter the details I set for the active radar.I would appreciate any help.

FSUIPC 3.135 and some earlier versions have an Auto Weather Clear option that I believe is activated when an external program (i.e. AS2004) is refreshed. Is it necessary to discreetly on loading a flight go into FSUIPC's panel and manually clear the weather as decribed in the AS2004 docs? I seem to be getting good results with the FSUIPC (fulll registration) Autoweather Clear option. Here's the FSUIPC log for my second AS2004 test flight - KMSP to KDLH - in freezing drizzle, mist, etc., from a downloaded archive of 12/12/2003 (highlights ">>>>" mine):********* FSUIPC, Version 3.135 by Pete Dowson *********User Name="Ron Ginsberg"User Addr="[email protected]"FSU…

Just departed with the following metar at my departure point:KJKL 201453Z AUTO VRB05KT 4SM -SN BR OVC009 M06/M07 A3026 RMK AO2 SLP264 I could see the ground all the way up to ~5000 feet altitude.Visibility at takeoff was set at 4 miles.I have enhanced overcast option checked. Was my expectation for truly flying into and out of a low overcast layer while using AS2004 unrealistic? Thanks
