The download of my ASV (upgrade from 2004.5) has gone horribly wrong, and I cannot understand what the problem is. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. At the end of the installation process I clicked FINISH (with 'launch the program' ticked) but it didn't launch the program. Instad it ran through the installation process all over again. After starting FS2004 I tried to start ASV. A screen appeared saying that an .msi file couldn't be located. Am I supposed to understand what this means?I tried to remove ASV using Windows 'Add/Remove Programs' in Control Panel (in order to start over with a fresh install) but the same 'gathering information' screen appeared and it w…

Overal, ASV is a superb program. After reading the manual and optimising settings, I now have a realism not experienced before. I love the way the aircraft will bob around in the changing winds and thermals. Landings are now a challenge at times. However, The turbulence never gets to the level where Its a challenge. I have flown in silky smooth weather, but also in weather where it was impossible to hold a camera steady to take a photograph! I believe I have ASV set to the maximum turbulence I am likely to get.I read in another post turbulence has been sacrificed in the search for smoother wind changes. Could this bias be user selectable for us pilots who don't mind the od…

  3. Can someone explain why AE can randomly choose things like haze i understand having the capability is good for most but why would one always play with this setting thick blue or gray, white, brown. Asv should know which haze i see outside?Unless of course im a little off here and when entering a flight plan and then submitting the random textures, it will choose the best setting in this example 'haze' to the most realistic situation for the flight plan therefore possibly thin and blueish or thick and gray is this correct or is it simply for user selection? I thought only the ICS cirrus were based on the situation and the rest was based on user preference.I was used to jus…

  4. I have ASV, it's out of this world- thanks Damien and others!I tried Offline Sequential Playback- I defined the METAR file (dated a few days ago, so it's after the full resolution hourly METARs), and indicated a 12 hour window. The initial METAR was at 1900Z (1300 here in MST), and I understood that ASV would reset my time to 19Z (1300 local), when I loaded FS9. But FS9 loaded at current time (more like 03Z). I am using FS time in the Options in ASV. Am I incorrect about FS9 getting time reset by ASV?Thanks, Bruce.

I have been following the threads about ASV release and have visited the HiFI website and am still confused about what is included in the ASV release. It seems to me from reading the info on the HiFi website that ASV includes AE (Active Environment) which is the same as or different from FE (Flight Environment) which is offered at Flight1. What is the right answer??Dave Sheridan

OK, I bought ASV and admit even at the simple level I am using it it is a big improvement over AS2004. I have some questions about its use with WideFS, which is how I have it set up now. I installed it on my second computer. Now I kind of want to try the new clouds (although I use Flight1's AE). Do I have to copy folders over to the other computer? Are they being "uploaded" to it through the network? I don't really understand the cloud functions or ICS. ThanksDavid

    1. I had read (don't quite remember where, think it was at your home site) that the total disk space needed was over 1 gig. I checked my ASV folder and it's only 511MB. Does this seem about right, or did something not install?2. I want to be real careful about this next one. I have been a user of your products way back to Active Sky, and still have it installed so when I bought AS2004, it could read the necessary files in order to qualify for the upgrade. I have all these installed applications in my add/remove programs listings and would like to uninstall all of them, including AS2004.5. If I do so, and then something happens to my ASV folder, will I be able to do a full…

Right now to have ICS do its work you have to have ASV active and FS inactive (not running). My suggestion is to introduce a further "pause situation" in asv: when i hit refresh it elaborates my flight plan and submits textures to FS then idles again.I load fs and hit refresh again.Otherwise it may get in the loop of "FS not ready" (it happened once to me).Just my 2 cents

AS5 great product!:-) Just wondering if the thermals are time of day dependant. I'm assuming they aren't but I could be wrong.

Hi Damian,First of all congratulated to a really magnificent product. At the moment I have an issue with the time. Regardless whether I select system time or FS time in the options page, it is always the latest METAR that is downloaded, as if I selected system time. The very top of the ASV window tells me what the FS date and time is, but the downloaded METAR does not agree at all.Best regards,Henrihttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/119506.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/119507.jpg

Hi, I would like to start off by saying that I'm lovin the latest ASV, congratulations to the team on this product. However, there is one little detail that irks me ever since I downloaded a file from Avsim only a few days ago, called "soft horizons". This addon was brilliant in that it finally eliminated that sharp line between the horizon and the sky. Alas, I only enjoyed it for a few days because ASV then came out :-lol.Anyway, the AE sky textures are also very nice but are notably lacking in the soft horizon effect that I am now fond of. Are there are plans to maybe incorporate this into a later update? Like I said it is a relatively minor detail and could probably…

Hi there, I had a question about ASV and winds aloft.Where are the stations in the north atlantic where the winds aloft data are drawn from? How close are they? Is there a map anywhere with them listed? I noticed that the winds for two stations were the same, and I wondered if they were using the same station for their data. Is this possible? Thanks for the info - couldn't find it in the manual!Cheers,Tom

  17. Hi guys im debating between repair or uninstall or none at all.The reason for this is because it was freezing and im afraid something may have corrupt upon installation. Also the error of not finding the fs9 path when it was really there until my reboot.Just want to get something straight if i uninstall i need to back up the textures first other wise they will go with the uninstall right?By copying the texture folder this will bring back everything to its previous state right nothing else changed?Of course ill have to add mips again and install the 512x512 files.Any comments?

  20. Hi guys i've been battling this issue for a long time and now i actually had the chance to test it with the arrival of ASV and i've found that without the mips added i see no artist drawing the clouds when i turn however i cannot fly without the mips too slow on my system. Ill try 64x64 without mips but i dont really want to go that low considering im used to 512x512.Just letting you folks know what i experienced may be different on other systems. If anyone can prove me wrong please do so as i only tried a few scenarios and no actual long flight. Thanks for reading!

Hello guys, I'm enjoying my new upgrade of ASV but still notice that in my activeradar display, I have gaps in the map window as shown in the attatchment. Sometimes the gaps are like this and more often they are large comma shaped. Any ideas of whats going on? PS: The area I was flying was over near Chicago

I used to with as2004.51.load fs9 2.activesky3.load new route4.change time to refresh AI5.weather radar6.FLYI would like to know the way, a few ways were mentioned here but maybe you guys can pin this up since ASV does have a new way to load stuff considering some textures need to be updated with fs9 and ICS is on the go, with the route processed from what i understoood.Sorry for the repeat but i am a little confused.Might help someone else thinking about this too! Thanks

Guys, I read reports about people getting horrible fps with clouds. This should NOT be the case. Most likely you did not mip the clouds. My performance practically doubled when I mipped cloud textures. As always, test on your system. Otherwise FPS with AE and FE's clouds are completely equivalent, I only see some performance advantage of using FE's DXT3 clouds.
