I just installed ASV, and, as usual, I am confused. Are we supposed to automatically install mips after the install? If they improve frame rates is there a downside to installing them? Thanks a lot,

Ok. Now that I've got ASV running to my satisfaction, Id like to clean things up by removing FS Skyworld, AS2004 and AS 2004.5.No prob with FS Skyworld as I was able to find an executable for the un-install.But what about Active Sky? Do I just delete the folders and remove the entries (there are two - one for AS2004 and one for AS2004.5) in my program list? Or, is there an executable for the uninstall buried somewhere? Thanks for your help.L. Noel

FIOAfter installing the update for ASV, I then uninstalled AS2004. Next time I tried to start ASV, it would not. It was complaining about ChilkatZip.dll.I solved this by registering this dll, at its new location. It appears that the update install does not re-register this dll in its new location, so when the old dll is removed, it obviously can't be found.Steve

Purchased the upgrade today and installed it. All appeared smooth and I poked around with it. However I have owned every version since ActiveSky 1.something (Though wxRE, 2004.x etc.). After installing ASV I went to control panel and uninstalled all those previous versions (apparently every time I ungraded the old one stayed installed -- quite annoying, as along with 6-7 entries in the control panel add/remove software I have ActiveSky enties sprinkled all over my programs menus and couple of different directories of files). After uinstalling these old versions ASV vill not load and complains about a missing .dll. It won't reinstall however because it says 2004.5 is …

Hi,I bought last WE ASV, it's the first time I'm buying AS and now I wonder why I waited for so long before buying it!! It really changes the sky and really makes a whole new way to fly with FS!! I'm delighed by ASV, I'm learning to set it up properly, but I'm really amazed by it.Thanks to anyone involved in the project, this is a great addon!!Francois

Got this link from another site. National Geographic has this "Feature" on a guy who set up some probes to catch a tornado with cameras from the ground as it passes over. Pretty cool, and an awesome display of the power and sound these things put out. Here's the direct link to the videos which are in .SWF (Flash) format from Macromedia. Most of us have Flash installed. Anyhow, just click the Launch Video text or Direct Hit to see just the tornado being filmed from the probes. http://www7.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/050...multimedia.html:)

Hi guys! Will I somehow get more accurate weather enroute if I for example import a flighplan from FS2004 (that in this case was exported from FSBuild2.2 and consisted of 13 waypoints)and let i process in ASV, or will I have exactly the same accurate weather if I just process a flight directly in ASV (e g Dep airport, Dest airport, Speed and Altitude) without using a flightplan? The next question is what speed should I put in to "Speed" (IAS, TAS, CAS), and how is ASV using that speed input?

Does the immediate airport not allow really low clouds around it? Now that I think about it, I always see clouds down to the deck in the country, around mountains, etc. in FS9. But have never seen it at the airport where they shroud the tower or other structure (which they do many times in RW with towers that are tall enough. Is that an FS9 limitation? I mean I have seen low visibility, on the airport, but I have never seen buildings with a cloud around it, like I have seen in cities, mountains, valleys, etc. in FS9.HMMMMMMMMMM.....I assume FS9 didn't have this right in the first place?CB

Jim and Damian, To be constructive, I love testing things and trying to come up with solutions. It is obvious that the product has taken a lot of time, so I want to help out as I have some time on my hands. I have done a lot of tests with ASV, probably 10-15 hours in the last couple of days, and I think I have a possible solution. When I put a layer of anything in ASV with 020 as the level, I get clouds down to the deck almost. When I put the level at 002, I get clouds at 2000 AGL or above. Is it possible that the code is transposing the last two numbers of the ceiling altitude? I am not a programmer, but I assume that would be easy to check. And, as I am sure a few …

Well, I have in fact gotten lower OVC and BKN clouds at the rough altitudes that I have set the layer in METAR, however, it is still very intermittent. But they have been there in some form or fashion, so I don't think that the code is reading them incorrectly. Chris, I think there is different problem caused by two things, the shape of the clouds (an FS9 limitation?), and the placement. In order to really see the clouds, I test my layers with very high visibility (25-30sm)so that I can see the layers clearly, and how far they extend, and where the holes are, so that the visibility does not mask any problems. The problem of differing altitudes seems to be this. First, t…

Come on if you think you are hard enoughI paid my $28 or whatever to upgrade from ActiveSky 4.5 to AS5 and all I have is violent visability changes, clouds popping in and out at the horizon, all sorts of unpleasant things.I had a lovely hazy horizon from FL350 with ActiveSky 4.5, OK a bit too hazy really but at least I didn't have that horrible ruler straight horizon and moving clouds and popping mountains.I say, stick with ActiveSky 4.5, who amongst the paying public says Nay?And yes, I've searched the forum and tried and tried with my settings

Guys, Congratulations on this version of AS. You are smart and deserve a lot of credit. One thing I notice is that there is still a sense of the airplane not being "inside the cloud" when you watch it from a spot plane POV but rather it seems to pass through a 2 dimensional wall. Contrary to this, when the visibility setting is low, it really does simulate more of the airplane itself being in IMC or actual conditions, for example, the airplane gets harder to see and haze appears around the light beams. This never happens in the clouds themselves ...but it should. If you could achieve that effect, it would take you over the top. Is this something you've thought of or that m…

Great product! I read the manual and had a question on multiple flights. I fly on VATSIM. For example, the first leg of my flight is KSAN to KSFO, after a short stop, the second leg is KSFO to KSEA. I understand the sequence for the first stop. Which is, Start ASV, load flight plan, start FS, wait for weather to load, take off and land at KSFO. I believe this gives me all ASV has to offer. Now this is where I get confused. At KSFO do I simply load the KSFO - KSEA flight plan into ASV and wait for the weather to load. OR I have to log off VATSIM, close SQBox, close FS, load KSFO - KSEA flight plan into ASV, open FS, open SQBox, log back onto VATSIM, wait for weather to load…

I have recently reinstalled all my Flight sim software and i am running AS4.5 with the lastest patch. I am now getting gray/blue clouds as i am transitioning to my cruise altitude. I can seem to get rid of them if i wait long enough and do a refresh when i am higher. No matter what cloud type, they all seem to be that colour. I have added my Flight environment after the fact and it hasnt made any difference? Everything worked fine before, any ideas?Ed

Hi,Is there an easy way I can tell if I have Mip Maps enabled/disabled? I have shifted a number of times now between them for test purposes and now I'm confused ;-)Edited to add another question on mip maps:Noticed in the display settings in FS9 that you have a slider for Mip Mapping under the hardware tab if my memory serves me right, what does this slider do and is it related to the enabling/disabling you do in ASV?Cheers,

Hi,Asked about this a couple of days ago but never received an answer, is it a confirmed bug that you are able to choose multiple textures of the same cathegory under Environment in Active Environment Configuration? You can for instance choose all four sun textures and submit them...what sun texture will then be used in FS?Cheers,

Good evening.I would like to know which setup you recommend to make in order to simulate the real weather as close as possible. I do not care about size, colours, effects of clouds. I use Virtual Airlines flights to plan a flight, then FSV today(AS2004 before) then FSBuild 2.2 and finally FS9 with PMDG 737-800.I am quite close to real flights but now I want to have some suggestions on how to setup all those hundreds settings in order to simulate the real weather I am downloading. Thanks for your kind attention.RegardsRakhamToshiba Satellite P4 3.4 Ghz1536 DDR RAM nVidia GeForce FXWinXP ProYoke & Pedals CH Products
