Interested in building your own home grown cockpit? Here you can seek advice, help and assistance from those that have "been there - done that". A great learning experience you can share.

  1. Hi all, I'm taking delivery of three 50" TVs tomorrow and will be trying to fit them into a pretty cramped attic to make an immersive cockpit. (I think I've measured it correctly!) The plan is to make this as versatile as possible, with interchangeable instrument panels to allow the use of a variety of aircraft types. I've posted a video of my existing setup here: https://youtu.be/antcjU6hyzY Hope you find it interesting 🙂 Dom

Hi guys, I have a work in progress for building my own cockpit, not fully enclosed but it is stationary in it's own dedicated area. I currently use a standard swivel office chair but to become more authentic I am considering getting an old car seat which sits on it's own runners so I can move if back and forth to suit and mounting it on a piece of board for the runners to attach to...I am aware that the car seat is at more of an authentic height to a real airplanes seat (lower than the office chair) so my desk would need to be adjusted (Make that cut down lol) accordingly. is this a viable proposition ..has anybody else experience of th…

Hi, I'm looking for a ready built overhead cockpit for my 737 cockpit. My choice would have been something comparable to the VRINSIGHT 737 overhead but I noticed that this one is only compatible with the old PMDG 737 and not the 737 NGXu under Prepar3d. Does anyone know a NGXu compatible overhead? I understand that most overheads are for Pro Sim etc. Thank you for any tip! Best regards Andi

I just bought the X56 RGB by Logiteck. I'm having a hard time finding a mount or rack (wheelbase stand?) to put it on. All I need is something to mount the stick in front of me and the throttle to the left of me. I dont want to be slave to sitting in front of the desk though. I found the Wheelbase Pro but I dont really want to spend 400 bux on it. Anyone know of a simple way to mount these and that is also affordable ie.not 400 bux? Trying to search for one of these is a nightmare. And I use VR only so I dont need any monitor stand.

  6. Ok so in this video right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWwiDnhjQlo&ab_channel=TheWarthogProject now can I 3D print these panels? I dont really have a laser cutter/engraver but what I want to do is 3D print the same 3 layers in black, white and transparent and then glue them and paint them. Now the problem I have is can you laser engrave PLA as he does? If yes how much of the surface do I need to scratch off? Like just the paint layer or? Because the white layer is on top I dont think the light will shine trough it.. I dont really understand how any of this works so can you guys help me? Thanks in advance Sven

Hello guys , I've just started to build a 737 home cockpit and I decided to start with the glareshield section. Since I know quite some things about programming I want to do the MCP myself instead of buying it. So I've searched the net for some info and dimensions and I've found the current dimensions: 73mm ( height) 470mm ( length) I have also found 78mm ( height) 470mm ( length) Which one of them is correct? Isn't the panel a bit little? Do you guys have a template with the correct dimensions you could share? Thank you Best regards

  8. Started by Mikemike,

Has anyone successfully set up a "3D cockpit" using the X-plane Laminar Cessna 172 and Air Manager with the RXP GTN 750/650 plugins. I want dual touch screens, 3d printed bezels, knobs, switches, etc. I've seen a lot of discussion about 2D, but not much using actual homemade hardware. Is it possible? I think I can buy the plug and play GTN units but they are not really in my budget. TIA, Mikemike

Hello all, My name is Michael De Feyter. I am known in the flight simulator community as the developer behind an iOS/Android app called iFMS (https://www.ifms-fs.com). I’d like to introduce you to a new little project of mine. I have developed a set of PCB’s I like to call FS Modules. FS Modules are a set of PCB’s that allow anybody to design and build their own home cockpit with no knowledge of electronics design and/or programming skills; and more importantly, without the huge expense. The boards are chained together with standard RJ45 network cable and connected to the motherboard at the end of the chain. The motherboard is connected to the fl…

  11. I have a non-FSUIPC application on my P3D client PC that emulates an FMC/CDU. I have an OpenCockpits CDU I want to use. The app sends out a code "0X00" to each USB to find the CDU connection. The app expects the code "FMS1" in return to establish a connection. Once the connection is made, the app expects keyboard key input to "click" the buttons. I know how emulate the button press thru SIOC but can't find how to read and reply thru the USB. There is no FSUIPC or defined Add Ons (e.g. PMDG).

Hello, Where can you buy a potentiometer that can be mounted directly on the shaft of the motor? Usually these motors have a 1/4" dia shaft protrusion at the back end, where the optical encoder is mounted. Can you take the encoder off and put a potentiometer in its place? The reason I ask this is that I have figured out how to do forcefeedback and auto centering using the signals from an optical encoder, but I don't know how to simultaneously send a duplicate copy encoder signal to the desktop PC and have it show up as a joystick.

  14. Hi Everybody. I am currently working on building an AV8B harrier simpit based on the Skunkworks AV8B. however i have run into an issue namely that i have no way of interacting with lights and av8b specific buttons etc.I use mobiflight and fsuipc but neither have offsets from the cockpit items. For instance the master caution and master warning panel have annunciators associated with the various critical systems, how do i trigger an associated hardware led light to come on without knowing the offsets ?i mainly use BU0836 and Arduino hardware I have read something about extracting LVARS through fsuipc and generating a macro for mobiflight, however i think that is only for bu…

I need to be upfront and honest, I have very little interest or ability in electronics, hence why my currrent cockpit is full of pre-built panels. I have just bought the CPflight MCP/EFIS, Propwash Radio and AP panels and the RealSimGear GNS530 in readiness to build a new, redesigned generic MIP. However, I no longer want to use the Saitek panels which I already have, and would like to build a switch panel that has some simple switches which gives me functionality for things such as lights, wipers, landing gear etc. I also need to have an option for button pushes for AP reset/AT reset FMC reset etc for the NGX. I'd also like to have a knob to control instrument lighting i…

I have a 737NG FDS MIP connected to a CP Flight Board. All other equipment I have (FMC, EFIS, MCP, NAV, COM and ATC) are OpenCockpit modules running under OC4BA and SIOC. My platform is FSX/PMDG. In order to get the MIP instruments to work and as I do not have the CP Flight MCP I have a CP Flight Black Box to bypass the need for the CP Flight MCP. I believe I have all the software for the Black box but do not have FS_COM.exe that I believe is part of the CPFlighttoolsxxxx.zip file. I have asked CPFlight, other Facebook Forums, friends and relatives to help me source this. However this has not borne any fruit. Can someone out there help please. Any help would be most appre…

Hello, I am trying to build a MCP. I got past the circuitry, PCB and components, but I have no experience in engraving plastic. I have a .dxf file with all the lettering, and lines etc. Question: What is a suitable plastic material or substrate which can be used to engrave the letters and numbers for the MCP panel? I want to be able to use the backlit option at night, and I would like a Boeing 737blue, or as close to it as possible. Can someone point me in the right direction please? BTW. How does this "image from URL" work? I tried to upload a picture of what I am looking for, and no luck. How do I make my picture into a url?

Hi All: I have been searching for months, and years trying to find warping software for projectors, that does not cost a kings ransom. What do cockpit builders use for 2 and 3 projectors on a curved screen? I have dual vivimage projectors. 1080-P native 60hz. Right now I just line them up in the middle, and have a tiny line on my screen where they come together. I am easy, I can live with that, but the out of focus on the sides of the curved screen are miserable. I am running 3840 x 1080 screen size. I use Nvidia surround on a 2070 super card. I used wayback machine and got a free time trial copy of Nthusim to try but it only does blending, so that…

I ve been looking at both.. Realsimgear and Simionic but not sure which to get A) The Simionic need the bezel ($1500) + 2 IPDs 9.7" + 20$ Apple IOS software. The MSFS version is WIP. http://www.simionic.net/WordPress/g1000-apps/ or B) Realsimgear. This requires two monitors (I believe it comes with the bezel.. so additional expense) but it requires two ports from your PC. It also needs software from Mindstar G1000 Advanced Edition in P3D v3 and FSX Steam and with Flight1Tech G1000 Student Pro edition for hardware for P3D v3, v4 and v5. https://realsimgear.com/products/realsimgear-g1000-suite-for-x-plane-p3d-and-fsx What wou…
