Dear Members:Most of you are no doubt carefully following world events, particularly in the past few weeks, and I have received many inquiries while online and by email about what can and cannot be re-enacted while on VATSIM. Our community has always prided itself on its ability to remain neutral when it comes to issues such as politics, ethnicity and race. The simple reason for this is that our community was created and exists so that we can all join together and celebrate our joy of flight. When you log onto VATSIM, you can forget your real world concerns and enjoy a flight or a few hours at the scope. Politics have no place after you hit the connect button and join…

May I just post a BIG thanks to the guys from Vatsim in Israel and Turkey for there help. This to me is what this great hobby of ours encompasses, a world wide time for each othere.I asked these guys if they could help with a flight that our VA were flying Istanbul to Israel, and could they help with ATC for the flight.NOT only did they say yes to but also suggested to me that Nicosia ATC could also be on-line.It was done in a day or so and times routes and plans formed.I would recommend that Pilots. VAs. fly to these places and you are sure of a great welcome and the very best of service. I salute you Gentlemem. BCA20 Britannic VA.

I have been flying on vatsim for 3 months now. I use fsnav for flight planer. I have be flying short runs like kdbq to kord and kdbq to kmsp I have those routes the other day I tried kord to kdbq, I filled my plan. The controller said that the flight plan was no good and alt and gave me another one. My question is how did be find the info so fast I just logn on the the server and he was calling me. I checked the the kord website and there was no preferred route. And is there an odd or even fl if going north to south and east to west and viceverse? I looked up a perferred route to kord to kmsp then went to fsnav and put in kord to kmsp and hit auto route and that route was…

The following is a thread posted on the general discussion forum which I think has more to do with this forum. I don't have a clue as to how to post a lead to the original thread so I just pasted it here. Sorry. Any clues would be very much appreciated:******************************************"A real challenge for the gurus" Here it goes: After almost two years of trouble free FS2002 simming, all of the sudden all sorts of funny (and not so funny) things start to happen. First of all and without warning, I started getting these "error opening GPS_engine" messages which are momentarily solved by restarting FS2002. Shortly after that when changing aircrafts they all sta…

I just downloaded and installed Squawk Box 2.3b5 (the only version available here). The disclaimer warned me that this was a beta version. Should I expect problems?

In reteaching myself how to connect to and use the Vatsim network, I have rediscovered something that I had discovered before --and that is that I find the HostSB .dll almost impossible to use. It bogs and slows my system down so much that I can barely even move the mouse across the screen (I have a Pentium3/1000 with 512 meg RAM and a Geforce 2 Mx video card) In the past , I had to revert to using the Standard Squawkbox Host with all of its' problems ( and I never really did understand how the standard Fs chat window fixes were supposed to work or which one to use) . The HostSB.dll certainly works better -- if only it didn't kill my system. Any help with this would be mu…

I saw someone post about a file called SBhost.dll, or something like that to replace the old SBHost window. Is this really something that works?I loved to fly on Vatsim, & even back before Vatsim, but with the new thing, and ever since the FS2002 thing where I have to use an outside program to run SB, I just do not fly anymore online. So, if this brings the box inside the gaming window, as before, I think I might just be flying online tonight for the first time in a long long time!!!!Thanks

Please Help,When landing at Glasgow last week I was told by atc that i was landing at 98knots.. Pretty dam impossible in a 757 with 20000lbs of fuel in the wings...Anyway pic767 had GS145 in the cockpit as to did FSNav.. So before the Paris flyin i decided to rebuild both my machines to clear the problem.... It didn't.MY setup is One machine with just FS2002 and the other over a network running SB, RW, FSMeteo AIBridge PMTCAS and Servinfo. Everything use to run perfectly, I thought it might have been the latest FSUIPC 2.97, so this evening I downgraded it to 2.95 but I have had the same problem. I have checked all the settings in FS2002 like Indicated Air Speed is select…

VATSIM is pleased to announce that Wired Magazine, in its March 2003 edition, has published an in-depth feature on VATSIM. This article was written by John Galvin and is the culmination of a series of in-person interviews he conducted with Harvey Stein in London, Ontario, Canada in early October of 2002. The article discusses the history of VATSIM and details an online flight taken by Harv and George Marinakis from takeoff in Montreal to landing in Wichita, Kansas. This flight featured ATC provided by both Canadian and United States controllers.Wired also conducted a photo shoot featuring Harv and members of VATCAN which is included in the article. Wired Magazine is an in…

Hi all, firstly wanted to say that I think VATSIM is the best thing to happen to our hobby period. Great fun and makes it feel "as real as it gets".I've noticed a couple of controllers posting messages saying to configure Roger Wilco to slow modem no matter what speed your internet connection is, is this to avoid comms problems? if it helps it should be more widely circulated.I was flying into DC the other night which became very congested and although I could hear the controller and was responding he could not here me and became very frustrated with me and some of the other pilots, quite understandably, but the problem was not that I was not flying as instructed it was t…

Hi all,I would like to know what is the correct way to enter the RW server name when we connect to Vatsim via SquawkBox. At first, I was using vitez.net/unicom, but after sometime, everytime I connected I received an error message from RW as (could not find vitez.net/unicom). I tried avsim.net/unicom, but the message persists. Any ideas? Thanks.

Under Requirements and Suggestions>Roger Wilco on page 2 of 18 in Mr. Daniel Hill's tutorial, Mr Hill states: "The Roger Wilco program will sutomatically execute during SquawkBox startup if you so desire." 1. How do you setup these two programs to do this?2. Will the HostDB.DLL be activated by this, or must it still be turned on under Modules>HostSB>Run in the FS2002 ToolBar?Thanks:RTH

I probably have asked this question befrore on some forum or other, but would it be possible to ask controllers to give some estimate (non-binding, of course) of the time they expect to stop controlling? I have been extremely frustrated most of the times I try to fly on-line after spending a half-hour or more to set up a flight, and then find the controller has left just as I get airborne. I know they have other things to do, and I really appreciate their effort, but I would just like to have an idea of when they are leaving to go do those other things.Dave Hinson

When I try to execute this program, the Project Magenta opening window appears, but shortly after, I get the old "Send error report" or "Don't send" Windows error message which tells me: "Whazzaup has encountered a problem and needs to close." , and then Mr. Gates apologizes for any inconvience this might have caused. Has anybody been successful with this program, and if so do you have any idea what my problem is? I have turned off all firewall, virus, and Popup Programs. It would be nice to have an alternate for ServInfo (I think), although so far I have not been able to get WhazzUp to work to see if it might be a desirable alternative. Thanks:RTH

Hi all,I'm getting very used to VATSIM now, and hate to fly offline! I'm want to make it more realistic however, and want to start flying SIDS and STARS. When I'm planning, can I basically pick my own SID based on the active runway, or do I have to fly on the controllers choice of SID. If so, how do I know before I submit my flightplan?Same for arrival, do I just pick my STAR and make contact with ATC, or will I be given one to fly?As I don't have SID/STAR charts at the moment, I'm very reliant on those built in to the MCDU of the PSS Airbus, should I make this apparent in my flightplan (Would it make any difference?)Many thanks,Gareth Evans

I've tried to register, but the "Country" pull-down list isn't working on the registration page of the VATSIM site. Is there anyone here that can fix the problem so that I can register? Thanks...

Just a simple question:How does VATSIM treats real world controllers (yours truely is among them)? couldn't find a hint on all regulations docs.I am having a real hard time with IVAO "training" staff: they are being very disrespectful (even rude sometimes), while I am offering to share my knowledge and experience (and spare time).Should I expect the same from VATSIM? do I have to pass all kind of exams and evaluations or do you take in acount my real world knowledge? Thanks in advance,Ilan
