That big event on the US West Coast - California Screamin' is scheduled for Sunday May18th - 18:00 - 23:00 Z (11-16 Pacific). If you're new to VATSIM - this is generally the largest recurring fly-in that VATUSA holds. The last several events have seen hundreds of flights. The theme of the event is to put yourself in the drivers seat of an airliner, and "dispatch" yourself on a set of routes from our massive database of real world flights. All the charts and info you need are a click away. Try and beat the clock in the busiest skies you've ever seen on VATSIM.Dispatch yourself here:http://www.eleventhstreet.com/flyin_all.asp?event_id=1A few pointers:1. New pilots tend to th…

Hi all,I have a question regarding ATIS in Vatsim. When I type '.ATIS ' it comes back with 'ATIS on request' from the controller automatically. What does this mean? Does it mean I should request ATIS by simply asking the controller or am I doing something wrong in trying to obtain the current ATIS report? Thanks! :D

I see several "company" channels on rw.avsim.net visible in the RW Servers TAB in ServerInfo 2.0, eg /pwa etc.How does one create a company channel?I tried to create one using "Join" in RW where I filled in the text box channel as "rw.avsim.net/mtnair" but that didn't show up on the list.May be only the proprietor of rw.avsim.net can do this?Larry

Hello folks,As a controller at ZMP (Minneapolis), I see a lot of things happening on VATSIM. We control one of the largest sectors in the United States. I would invite you to fly into our sector and say hello. Enough of my shameless advertisment...For those of you who have flown in the MSP airspace I would like to know what your thoughts were.Did you enjoy flying in MSP?Did you find the controllers knowledgeable?Any comments you can think of, I would like to know them.now, some things that I have started to see. I have been seeing recently more than a few flights from MSP that take a person WELL out of the way. It seems that these websites that have the "preferred" r…

OK - finally got the software issues ironed out and I'm ready to go.Just don't want to get in the way too much at first. The consensus advice from the forums is to stay away from the first few flights from the major metro airports until you get used to on-line flying. It seems however when I'm online that most controllers are in fact in major metro centers.Anybody got any suggestions about how to choose a first route?

Finally got everything to click tonight and it was great. Much better than I expected. Thanks everybody for all the help.Just one more quick question, while I was flying a Center closed for the night. When that happens what should I do? Go to Unicomm? Staywhere I am? Look ahead and see what the next controller I'll hit is and go to that freq? Thanks again. I promise fewer questions in the future.

So all the talk about VATSIM over on the main FS02 message board peaked my interest and after years of offline flying i decided to take the plunge. Just can't get the thing to work though.I follow the tutorial fine through when I hit the "join session" box and click on start search. All it does is search. I read the forums and someone suggested entering the IP address from the multiplayer session. Tried that. Zilch. Someone suggested entering "localhost" that worked - once and then I couldn't establisha connection. Now when I try "localhost" it still just searches and searches. I'm sure I'm doing something, probably very simple too, wrong. Any suggestions?

As you may have read in the announcements, we have brought the community calendar online (a feature of the new forums system). This is an ideal tool for VATSIM to use to announce fly-in's and happenings, as it does get tremendous visibility with over 7,700 registered users of the AVSIM Forums. If you are a registered user, you can enter events into the calendar for all to see. We encourage the various VATSIM groups to use this calendar, and in so doing, you may attract new users to the hobby!

Is there any advantage to using a popular "real weather" program such as FSMeteo or Active Weather, while flying on-line?? Will using one of these programs cause any problems or conflicts with on-line flying on VatSim??Thanks,Phil

How would some of you like to get together and promote VFR flights for new pilots in VATSIM? I'd really like to get some new pilots started and promote the very much ignored VFR portion of online flight. Any new or experienced simmers interested? What we need.ATC ground, tower and terminal/centre positions manned.A friendly voice where new pilots can ask questions about what's, where's and when's of radio procedures. And plently of enthusiastic helpers and pilots.I'd be more than happy to sit around and help out with radio calls and procedures of entry and departure from controlled airspace. I really feel like the young pilots of the world need a friendly and willing voic…

Hi all!Back in the days of FS98, I used to fly on SATCO, before Roger Wilco made v-atc possible. Back then, I can remember getting very flustered with having to both fly the plane, and communicate with ATC without doing a nosedive on departure. Later, I got FS2K, and soon the voice use increased. This made it easier to keep my hands on the controls, while talking to ATC, but I can remember on more than one occasion where I botched my readback, because I was scanning instruments, and a number on one of the guages would replace the assigned FL or heading, thus making the controller repeat himself (no doubt with an understandable sigh and roll of the eyes. :))What I'd like t…

I am a new VATSIM user...Can someone explain some the correct procedures and dialog to use for voice communications. For example:-Step 1) Tune to ATIS for departure airport to determine runways in use.Step 2)Based on runway in use... make and file a flight plan Step 3)Request IFR clearance, eg"Sydney departure, Qantas 231 requesting IFR clearance as filed to Brisbane with ALPHA"Wait for clearance and read back responseStep 4) Turn to ground frequency and request taxi to active runway, eg"Sydney ground, Quantas 231 requests taxi to active runway"etc etcWhat would be good is a flowchart :-jumpy that shows the procedures and dialog for a complete IFR flight, including missed…

Hello Onlineflyers!Upcoming tuesday, 15.04.2003 will see a very special event in the Frankfurt FIR: During our large VFR evening 4 smaller airfields around Frankfurt will be staffed, and we expect large numbers of general aviation aircraft there. What makes this event a special one, is that VFR ATC at flightlevels below FL100 in Germany will be held in german language. So don

I have been a controller for four years now and am voice qualified. However I have an unusual situation in that I lost my password documentation and my email was changed. Unfortunatly, both of these events were a bit out of my control (still no excuse). My computer was stolen (amongst other things) in a home burgulary. When I finally got re-established, ATT changed their email service from ATT@home to ATTBI. I originally backed up my VATSIM registration info on a second drive for safe keeping, but again that was in the computer case.I have followed procedures for password information on the VATSIM site and sent a request via email to 'support staff' link twice over t…
