I think we would all agree that in most enterprises competition is a good thing. Having said that I think online flying is perhaps one area where competition adds little value. This is such a small and specialized market where everyone agrees that more aircraft and more ATC is a good thing and yet we have VATSIM and IVAO sharing a small group of users and offering essentially the same service.Does anyone know the history here and if efforts are underway to join the two groups. Perhaps VATSIM can control NA, SA, Africa and Asia while IVAO controls Europe.Mark.

Help Please, I have been having this problem for the past two days. I have F2004 and for the past few months everything has worked great. Here is my problem. When I run SB relay, then FS2004, then the squawkbox main program everything works great. I'm online and I can see others online. I have a full ATC directory where I'm at. I load my flightplan talk to controllers, get clearance, etc. After about 5 to 10 minutes of being online my ATC directory goes blank, no communications. But I'm still online, just can't talk to anyone. I disconnect and re-connect and everything is back to normal with a full atc directory. 5 to 10 minutes later everything is blank. I flew from ATL …

Hi folks,I've been flying with FS2002 for about a year now, but still consider myself quite a beginner. I just signed up for Vatsim and downloaded Squawkbox etc etc, and tried to try it out a few times over the past few days, but am having a few issues, namely with locations of controllers.On the 'beginners' tutorial listed on this site, they strongly incourage firstime users to file a flight plan from 'quieter' airports so things aren't as hectic. So I took that advice and picked two regional airports here in Ontario (Toronto Island Airport to Ottawa International). I'm a newb when it comes to Squawkbox/Vatsim flying so I just want to make sure I'm doing a few things right. I did my first flight 'online' yesterday and things went fairly well. One thing I did come across which I imagine will happen alot is large stretches of flying time where there is no 'active' controller around. What should I do here? Last night I just went to the 'default' ATC Directory frequency and typed in my status every once inawhile. Is this correct?Also, using ServInfo to get a list of controllers etc, how do I find out enroute, if there is a controller in the area?? I started using AVC yesterday and it's awesome, but when I fire up my engines (Learjet 45) I can barely hear the controllers over the engine noise. Is there anyway to make the AVC sound higher and the other lower, or just the AVC one louder?Thanks,Jeremy

Hi all,Trying to use this new AVC software and keep getting the message,"call sign invalid, please log on to vatsim" ?? I check the vatsim site, i'm there on the pilot list, re-verify the callsign abd pilot info are correct and still get the same message? RW works fine for me but i want the latest and what i thought was the greatest voice software. I'm using winxp pro, cable modem thru a router, all the latest builds. Thanks,Rob

When ever i try to join a session on the VATSIM network, i start SB, host the mulitplayer on FS and join. Then, when i get to the part where I have to file a flight plan, i find a server and connect and it says that I am connected and when i file a flightplan and check on VATSIM, i see that it was filied but when I got to get a list of ATC Controllers, nothing appears but 2 objects that both give me an error when i click on them. I was thinking it was the HUB but I'm not sure. Can someone help?

I have used AVC a few times now. First few flights it was awesome, very clear, nicely distorted and realistic, no issues.Last flight, I kept losing the controller almost like when someone has RW set as High Priority. I thought this was not supposed to happen....any ideas ? Perhaps just an unrelated server error.Mark.

Hi,I haven't installed voice yet, so I'm wondering if I should start with Roger Wilco or AVC?As far as I understand, they are compatible in the way that:- changing channel in squawkbox will drive RW and AVC the same.- communication is possible between a RW user and an AVC user.- I have read users reporting they successfully used RWControl to switch AVC. This doesn't surprise me as if it works with SB, it means AVC implements the same control interface.Now, taking into account that AVC is apparently protected agains hackers, and that AVC's sound quality is better, would there be any reason to not prefer it over RW? I am new to virtual simming and require some much needed assistance with SBRELAY. When I start SBRELAY, one of two things happens. First, I either get the standard error message about UDP Port 6803, even though I have disconnected my firewall and McAffee Privacy. To solve this, I keep rebooting until I get the message that I can connect FS 2004 and SB. When I finally get to this point, it appears that SBRelay keep running in the background for about 3 minutes and then I get a LOW VIRTUAL MEMORY ERROR. At this point, I can't open FS2004 or SB because there is no memory. I have downloaded all of the latest software (directx 9.0b, SB, FSUIPC, SBRelay). I have been tryi…

We all know that while we are using FS2002 and we need to switch a channel, we have to hit ALT-ENTER to switch to the SB Host and Program and select the new frequency. Then the RW station switches too. Is it possible to swicth the station on the airplane control panel and have the RW station switch too? That would be a lot better then going in and out of the program. TIA.Nathan

I have two computers. I have MSCOF, & SquawkBox on one computer and ServInfo on another. ServInfo is on the other just so I can keep updates as to what is happening out there.What is the best way to use Roger Wilco? Through SquawkBox, if you can, or through servInfo?

Hi Guys,I am completely new to online flying but love to give it a try!!!!The problem is that is have installed SBhost, SBRelay, SB etc. according to the various explanations about. The problem is that there is no multiplayer session to join in fs2004. even when i try to use 127.0.0.1 as ip and than host, on the next try there is still no session to join.Hope you guys can give me an idea of what i'm doing wrong, and i hope this hasn't already been discussed lots of times before. For a while now i have been having the same annoying problem.FS2k2 & SB will connect perfectly and conenct to the network fine.After a period of time i get the following message in FS:"BAW982 (MyCallsign) Has Left The Session"At this time all other players in my multiplayer session will leave and thecontroller will loose me from the scope.To be able to see other players again i have to follow this procedure:Close SBDissconnect Multiplayer from FSMake a new session in FSReconnect SBThis can happen 2-3 times in 30mins.I have reinstalled both FS & SB and the problem still remains.
