What is SB Parent and why is it in my Squawkbox folder and what is it used for?

Guys i've always enjoyed flying on Vatsim but why is it so hard now to connect, using SBhost in FS9 squawkbox constantly crashes everytime i attempt to load it up. As for the hosting outside FS9 that works but the second i connect FS9 refuses to show the screen again. Is there anything i've missed to download or change.Thanks and kind regardsG-MIDYLawrence

First: Confession: I have had VatSim for some time and seem to be continually starting over again, stopping for a while and then starting again as an eternal Newbie (VatSim Controllers please forgive me and I'll bet I am not unique). Hi allI get 2 errors every time i use squawkbox.(I ave everything setup, SBrelay and SBhost)The first is after i select the game from Squawkboxes list and click join.The windows title is ICAO.DATThe test inside it "Critical error: could not open file"then "OK" button. It seems to load ok after this.The second is when i file a flightplan. it says "You are missing the file: csl_icao.csvAircraft will not be shown properly"Somthing that could be connected with this, is the way i cant seem to select any aircraft from the aircraft scrollbox. There are no aircraft listed, just white space.Any suggestions?

Do real world controllers often say, "Squawk mode Charlie"? I only recall hearing "squawk altitude". By definition it is mode C, but I've only heard it referred to as such on VATSIM transmissions. The transponder I'm familiar with switches between: off, standby, on, and altitude.

Hello Folks, I have been having problems running ServerInfo from my FS computer. The program however runs without a hiccup on my wife's laptop; so I have linked them up in a simple home network. I set the ServerInfo application on my lady's machine to communicate with the ServerInfo gauge on the FS pc.When I fire up FS and open the gauge, I can load data by using the data button on the gauge, and I see that on the laptop, the data is actually loading. The gauge also shows the number of people online and the data time at the top. However it does not show any of the ATC, even though there is apparently one or more within range. I need help to setup my firewall so that I can coonect properly in FS9. At the moment, SBRelay is fine and I get confirmation that I can coonect FS9 and SB to it. However, when I start up FS9 and click on connect under Multiplayer, I dont get to see the "SBRelay-FS2004" session. I tried many times according to the tutorial in PRC and no success (including putting IP address, disconnect and reconnect).I strongly suspect it's my firewall even though I have open the ports needed for SBRelay and SB (both TCP right?) according to the tutorial. Some time ago on a similar post to another forum, I received replies that other pilots were useing SimFlyer airport scenery with no problem for VatSim flights, however:In observing MSFS9 Air traffic, and/or locating an aircraft directly to a specific runway (MFFS9>World>Go To Airport>Active Runway or a selected runway), I have noticed that at some locations, there is a slight difference between some default MSFS9 and SimFlyer taxi strips, gates, and/or runways. Am I correct in assuming that ServInfo or their Server has been down and not operational in the last twelve or fourteen hours? Anybody been able to get info? Sorry if this is a really obvious questions, but I was just curious if theres anyway to fly with AI traffic etc while using Squawkbox and Vatsim etc? I often fly in and out of airports that have no 'live' flyers, and would like to enhance the experience if possible with regular traffic like I have in offline mode. I have MyTraffic2004 installed for offline AI traffic.Thanks in advance,Jeremy

1) Connected to everything properly. When I try to connect to a server I get a callsign not on the server yet error, even if I don't have AVC or Roger Wilco running.2) I have used two callsigns, so am I to understand that these can never be used again since I might have inadvertently removed them from SBRelay?3) Assuming I can get logged onto a server, say US-1, can any controller whose current server montior status is different than US-1 control my flight? IOW, if I'm logged onto rw.avsim.net for AVC or RW do they tell me to switch FS servers or are they monitoring most all of the servers I might be on?4) When I check in and report flight plan on request, I should do so …

When IFR flying on VATSIM, I assume that charts are required for DP's and STAR's at the airports of intended departure/arrival, and that some enroute charts are also required? I have local charts here for my own actual flying, but where do you all get charts for new areas? I note that the Clearance Unlimited site appears to be down now.I assume one option is-like the RW flying- make sure you purchase the charts before flying (and of course they need to be current). I have just registered with VATSIM and trying to get Squawkbox for FS9, however the versions that I come across are only for the previous FS sims. Anyone know a link or patch for this please or point me in the right direction being a newbie and all.Thanks

Hello Gents. I recently found VatSim and am amazed that this is actually possible. Very awesome! Unfortunantly, both myself and another are having issues getting FS2004 to work with the network. Would it be possible to get a step by step checklist for connecting using FS2004? We have got to the point where we "believe" we are logged into a server. I was able to get into my plane once and fly, but at that point, nothing was responding to anything I was typing. We would greatly appreciate this or if you can point us to a site that has one. In order to set up SBRelay and squawkbox I am having no luck with the multiplayer function in FS2004. I have followed all instructions to the letter. I start SBRelay and then FS2009 but when I call up the multiplayer function and click search nothing comes up. Even when I put in the IP adrress 127.0.0.1 nothing happens. I am running Windows2000 and have disabled my firewall which is System Suite. Having followed FS2004 instructions to find my computers IP address I.e. Run cmd and then type in ipsg it comes up with C:My DocumnetsAdministrator. But no sign of my IP. Has anyone any ideas on how to get around this problem?David

Hey Guys!! I have been running SBRelay for a few months now with FS9 with no problems. Yesterday and Today, I have encountered a problem when starting up. When I click on SBRelay the main window comes up and then nothing. I get no text saying ready to connect FS2004 or anything. The main window remains blanks until I exit the program. When I exit I get Program not responding. I have gone through all the instructions, all my internet connections work. Any help would be great. I have to manually exit out of the program. SBRelay just sits there trying to connect. I have the current FSUIPC (registered), FSNav, FS9, etc. Like I said, I have had no problems up until yesterday.…

Hi,There have been numerous posts in this forum relating to access problems of various addons. Most problems were related to firewall, antivirus, add bloking and other programs running in the background. Apart from these inherent nuisances there is surely a frame rate drop in MSFA when running firewalls and antivirus programs.Therefore a general question: is it safe to turn off all firewalls antivirus, add blocking programs when connecting to squawkbox, servinfo, Vatsim, Roger Wilco and other addons for serious online flights? To what extent is Vatsim protected and will this protection be sufficient for us users?Michael
