Where does VATSIM get it's weather from? I'm just now getting back on VATSIM after being away for a while. After getting everything set up, I connected and did a quick local flight in an uncontrolled area to make sure everything worked.The weather VATSIM sent was nowhere near the actual weather. I usually fly with FS9's real weather function, and use real a weather brefing from DUATS or ADDS. FS doesn't always get it right, it's about an hour behind current weather, but it's close enough.Is it required to use VATSIM's weather, or can I use FS's weather?

After talking on an ATC frequency, how do I return voice to the Unicom 122.8 channel? To better explain, see the following example:1. Initiated a flight plan from KLAX to KORD. 2. KLAX was not manned, so 122.8 was the only choice, and when AVC activated, and Unicom was selected in the ATC directory, both my radio comm frequencey and voice were on Unicom (122.8). I was able to communicate by voice (radio checks) with no problem.3. When I crossed into the next region, I selected the ATC directory option of ABQ_V_Ctr. All,OK, I braved the time-consuming double registration and sign on for vatsim. I read the PRC on how to install the software and the steps needed to get going. I've spent several evenings slogging through the software installs while tryng to figure this all out and get VATSIM going on my computer. All told, I have no idea how all this works or what I need to do to get connected to VATSIM.Earlier tonight I figured I'd just start some programs and see what happens. I started SBRelay and noticed that the KLAX tower was manned. I double clicked on the tower info and got an IP address. I started FS2004 multiplayer and used that IP address to connect. As long as FS is minimized the radio coms sound fine, but when FS is up, the audio starts to break up. I doubt it's a bandwidth problem, I'm on cable.I have an SB Audigy2, but my MB has onboard sound, which is disabled right now. I was thinking of enabling it and piping the AVC audio through it. That way I can use my headset with mic for ATC while FS's sound will come through the normal speakers. Has anyone done this? Will this solve the audio breaking up problem?

I have managed to get FS9 and SBox connected through SBRelay, but when attempting to connect to VATSIM I receive "Invalid call sign or password" and then forceable rejected after two attempts.What could be the cause of this since my VATSIM ID and Password have not changed.This is my first attempts to connect on-line for some time, since getting ADSL Broadband via a network router. Go to the SBRelay web site for a discussion on routers and firewalls and what you can and can't do with them. I have mine off during SB sessionsYou guys need to remember we're kind of way out on a software limb with the current config. We first got SBHost to trick FS2002 into letting us have the SB window inside FS, then we needed SBRelay to trick SB and FS MP into thinking FS2004 is really FS2002. This far out on the limb, this will continue to be tough for us all. Hi all at VATSIM and the forum.I have been using FS for some time now and have ventured into online flying with Vatsim only recently. I follow the login procedures and although "as advertised" its not easy, it does work and the frustrations are worth it when all goes well. So to the point of my post. To get myself set up to a position where i can log into the system without wasting everyones time ie a decent flight plan and weather sorted etc takes me on average over 30 mins. When I look at server info and try and plan a route where there are controllers, by the time i am ready often the controller has logged off and it just spoils my flight a tad. Hello, I recently flew two flights on the VAT (PHX-LAS, DUH-TOL) and I wanted to see if I had been credited with the flight. I went into ServInfo, selected my callsign and Hit my name. It took me to the site where you login, and then it brings you to a security screen where you are to verify a number. Well I verified the number, and when I did it came to a page that said "User ID Not Found" or something similar. Why is this?

I really do get by with the built-in flight planner but have been thinking it might be time to look at say FS Navigator (I hope the menus aren't in German-only as their screenshots show)?It appears as if it already knows the various STARS and SIDS for the airports and I'm wondering if that will be fed to FS so that I can use GPS and AP together to fly that route or if the integration of such packages is limited.The last thing I want is to junk up the screen with a bunch of third-party products that don't inter-operate fluidly. Is it just a night-and-day benefit or as a turbo-prop flyer should I just save the money?

Hi!I'm a newbie to VATSIM and I'm trying to make it work...When I open SquawkBox (after creating a session in FS2002...) and I find my session and I click "Join", my pc does nothing for 15 secs and then a little messagebox titled "DirectPlay Sample" pops up with a "Unable to join" error.I have DirectX 9.0b and I re-installed them some minutes ago, but nothing...Help please...Thx!Bye ByeMarco

Causing serious frame rate hits during events?? Maybe? Is there a way to limit the number of planes SB Relay will load?I have no idea the inner-workings, this is just a guess as to why I can't use 2004 for events.I have 2004 running as well if not better offline as I do 2002. However log in to an event like Denver's last weekend and I have to use 2002 or stay away from the event in 2004.Thanks!Lance Williams

Hello, Well first off let me say hello, I am fairly new to this online flying thing. I am trying to figure out this VATSIM thing and have got some of it down but still struggling on some of it.My problem right now seems to be, i am not able to hear any voice on RW.Now I looked at the voice server list and put on in but I was the only one in the room.If someone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.Also I looked at the PRC and got lots of good info but I am have low patience and could not read anymore. In the VatSim listing, I am overlooking the preferred callsigns in VatSim for the following:1. Private Aircraft. I have been useing the manufacturer's name (i.e. Piper, Cessna, Beech, etc.) but am not sure this is correct or what controllers would prefer. All I usually see in ServInfo listings are the "N" numbers.2. Unnamed aircraft such as experimental?3. Executive or Company Aircraft?4. And my most applicable, Factory or Demonstrator aircraft: (For example, one of my favorites is a factory Boeing 717. Well, I keep hanging in there but things just don't want to go easily.I now have everything working fairly well but AVC (I'd LIKE to be able to get full-screen working but that's been totally hit-and-miss and less of a priority).FINALLY NY had nearly a full set of controllers tonight so I got re-invigorated about giving VATSIM another chance.I have a CH Products Flight Yoke and set the right trigger button so that it calls up ATC "`" key. I then told AVC to use the same key for triggering talk. For some reason that didn't seem to work at all. I've been trying to find a way to get the same button (the right trigger of my CH Yoke) to bring up the MS ATC when I'm flying solo and also work as the push-to-talk button in AVC when flying VATSIM.For whatever reason, MS ATC is disabled when you're in multiplayer (correct me if I'm wrong but for me it doesn't come up in MP when I hit its assigned key). Thus, what I've done is to assign the default key to it in FS (the reverse apostrophe, below the tilde key) and then told FSUIPC to send that key when I hit the right trigger button. I finally installed the required programs. All programs are functioning. I've filed a flight plan for KADS to KADM. I'm on the ramp at Addison, I connect, bring up the ATC directory option and I only see the UNICOM freq. 122.8.Does anyone know how to resolve. I can't seem to find any reference to this type of issue.Thanks in advance.

I have two problems:1) RW keep dropping out on me when I fly on Vatsim. I'm using SBRelay1.2, the latest Squawkbox, FS9, RW v1.4.1.6 ... I'm able to connect, talk and start flying, but then after about 10 minutes or so I lose all voice communications. I have to reestablish the connection in order for it to work again, but it only lasts 10 minutes or so. I think it's worse when there are many people on line. HELP PLEASE2) I've got AVC working, but I can only seam to connect to whatever server/room I enter into that drop down box prior to connecting. If I need to switch to another ATC frequency, AVC stays on that same server/room and will not automatically change over …
