Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I created terrascene scenery for the entire Socal area, but the globe tile that LAX is in comes out messed up. There is a huge square of land right off the coast of lax that terrascene creates. Has anyone terrascened the lax globe tile and had this problem? If so, how can I get rid of that huge landmass that should be ocean? Thanks,Glenn

I am very new to the forum so apologies up front for any procedural, protocol errors. As an enthusiastic user of FLY2, I have just started tinkering with creating scenery especially for airports in South Africa. I am especially keen to create detailed scenery for Cape Town and Cape Town International(FACT)for FLY2.Having read through the Terramodels manual, I am aware that in order to create FACT, a good starting point would be with the taxiways, aprons etc. This is done from what I understand through Terramodels by using a bitmap image and then 'overlaying' the runways.I would be very grateful if anyone could advise me on how to obtain the bitmap image of FACT for this.I …

  7. It's deja vu all over again! :-)Well, the 3rd time's the charm. I am beginning a long-delayed project to create new TerraScenery packs for North & South Carolina. Some of you may recall that I have TerraScened all of the Carolinas twice for Fly!/Fly!2K. Those were cooperative ventures with Jeff Brooks. This scenery was done twice - once with TS 1.0, then again with TS 2.0. If you still use the original Fly!, these sceneries should still be available in the Avsim library in completely rendered form.I've held off on a new version for TS 2.1 & Fly! II until all of the issues could be resolved with both programs and a means could be found of uploading the larger scen…

Anyone help me with this. Everytime I teleport to Elizabeth City Regional (ECG) I get a CTD. I have the following error in the gtfo file:Msg: Stream corrupt. Cannot process next tag line [File].File: streamio.cpp line 826Time: Sun May 18 14:19:22 2003errno = 2 (No such file or directory)I think I have created some scenery there using the scenery editor. However I haven't found any evidence in the FLY2 folder. I was going to delete it if I could have found anything. Anyone with any ideas? Thanks.

Hello all,Glad to find an active FlyII forum. I recently reloaded FlyII and patched up to 250.240 with globe update. I also loaded in ROTW's excellent TBM700 (one of the main reasons for doing all this, I flew one in 1996 and I still dream about it!).I am having trouble understanding how to get the program to bring you in to approach to a smaller airport. For example, I planned a flight from MYF to DVT using the TBM700. When reaching Phoenix I am instructed to switch to PHX approach and am given vector for landing at KPHX, even if I bring up DVT menu and select approach/departure (same frequency) I am still given approach clearance to KPHX. If I contact DVT tower I a…

  13. I wanted to try and render some areas with the tigerline data using Terrascene. I just wondered if anyone knew exactly how to do this? I mean, basically which layers do I need to download and which ones are a waste of time? Do you still have to use the landuse data and all that stuff or can you do a terrascene project using only the new tigerline data?Thankskristian

It's simply unbeliveable. Ghost is an imaging program for backups and restores. What is different about it is that it will literally make an image of the entire disk or partition. In case a program fails, usually the operating system, one can quickly bring it back to life without having to go throught all those reinstall procedures normally used to install an operating system. This includes everything: drivers, registry associations, etc. So, sure enough I had divided my hard drive into three partitions: win98, games , and storage. Just 5 minutes ago I began to experience some weird win98 problems that I could not solve. So, I loaded ghost from a floppy, went through the …

I start a very short flight from DPA to ARR with the basic Flyhawk.I enter the ILS of the runway of ARR, take off, then AP on, NAV and GPS on. The plane follows the track. At about 5nm, I switch the APP button, off the GPS, and never the plane goes to the runway except if I switch REV on. Why it never takes the APP but only in REV mode?My altitude is about 400 feet at 3 nm.Thanks for your helpRakhamPIV 2.53 Ghz 1536 DDR ATI Radeon 9700 Pro WinXP ProYoke & Pedals CH Products

  17. Fire up the Navajo, and select Weigh & Balance with CG info showing. It's much too nose-heavy with the default loadout, reading about -7 (an impossible (?) value).I removed the front luggage, the co-pilot and the first row of passengers, added 200-pound passengers to each of the rear seats and 200 pounds to the rear cargo. The resulting CG reading was 35 -- more reasonable. The plane took off better and, when at cruise at 186TAS, the "jiggles" never showed up when I engaged autopilot.Prehaps with an unrealistic weight/balance condition, the AP is fighting to do the impossible. Try using loadout to correct the CG issue and see if the Navajo is better behaved.

Trying to get Fly2 installed, patched, and running after some time off and major computer modifications.Everything seems to be running fine, but I've found that after Terrascening my local airport (KOGD), the airplane enters the simulation suspended at least 100 feet above the airport. It immediately crashes to earth in a pile of debris. This does not happen using generic scenery (Terrascene pod removed). Does this mean I will have to do some flattening? I created this scenery so long ago, I don't recall if the scenery slicer automatically flattens like the Fly!2k editor did. Thanks,Dan

Last I heard, one of the developers declared, "Fly! will see the store shelves again!" But that it would likely be next year before it did.Any news?Kenneth

I recall a website offering VFR coverage of the entire Pacific coast of the US, from Seattle down to San Diego in three individual packages. I have been unable to locate that site nor recall their name. I don't even know if the package was compatible with FlyII! If anyone reads this and recognizes what I'm talking about, please tell me who they were and if they are still in business, and if they're packages were any good.Thank you in advance,Zane

Anyone know if there will be an update of Final Approach to link it with FlyII? I have used this program for years and really like the way it works and allows you to make your own approach charts, nice print quality too. Would also like to see an option to allow you to view during flight or at least bring up the chart on a clipboard while in flight... save printing out on paper. Hoping someone involved with Final Approach reads this :).Zane

Hello again! After such enthusiastic reponses to my last post, I have decided to post a propsal. I would Like to try to Fly around the world. I know it will take a LONG time, but I am thinking I will give my self a year or so. First is what plane to use. I know I will neaver make it across the Pacific in a Flyhawk ( too bad) But I can't land a 737 either, let alone a 747! I was thinking of the King Air. Any other sugestions?Next is where to cross the Major oceans. The Pacific I was thinking I could go around and cross over the Bering strait. the Atlantic is a little harder. I could try to pass over Greenland and to Iceland from there, but that is a long flight! I could tr…
