Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I just tried to access the old Fly forums from a couple of years ago and got a message that I didn't have permission and it was forbidden. Does this mean we've lost access to this resource? If so, a lot of good information from those days when many more of us were struggling with the intricacies of Fly II has been lost. Guess we couldn't really expect that AVSIM would keep those old forums around forever.Don

I just bought and installed one of the new nVidia FX cards with 256 mgs of DDR RAM. It's one of the middle-of-the-road versions ... not a high end card. Are there any adjustments to any of the .ini files in Fly!2 that I should be looking at using a card with a lot of RAM? (I'm kinda hoping that maybe the program will adjust on its own for the extra RAM. :-shy ) Thanks-Lindy :-wave

Hello, Had flown my last installation for about a year before the throttle got stuck at 28.6% torque, made for a fun landing! Did not happen in my other flight sims or other FLY! II aircraft. I deleted everything and did a fresh installation. Now the fuel gauges do not work, with or without ROb Young's Pilatus Fix. The display does not show consumption, flight time remaining, or a reduction in onboard fuel. I seem to remember it happening a long time ago but do not remember how to fix it. Am patched to 240. Thanks!Hmmm... Tastes Like Chicken!

Hello everyone, I was wondering where the frequnted spots around the globe are in Fly!II. So far, I have done a considerable amount of flying in central Alsaska. I have recently gone to flying in Hawaii, my home. I was hoping I could find other places to fly too.If you have a Secret airport you like to fly to, hidden amoung spawling metopilisis or in Snow caped mountains, I would love to hear about them!I think it might be a neat Idea to compose a photo album of the most manifisent places in Fly!II. I am sure that in real life that there are a lot of different wonders, but in Fly!II there are others. Please include some surronding airports so I will have somewhere to fly …

I have 2 VFR sectional charts that just went outdated, Chicago and Detroit. My current AFD for the Ohio area will be outdated in the next two weeks. I also have an outdated Low Altitude IFR chart for the same area. They're not current for real world use but if anyone would like these to use in the sim drop me a note with your mailing address.c ya :-waveBart [email protected]://bartsflyplace.tripod.com/bart_logo3.jpg

Hi,Wondering if anyone runs both Fly2 and MS Flight Sim 2002 and could give some insight on the framerates they get (considering comparable scenery and detail levels, etc.) I just got a new PC, tons of power (P4 processor, Radeon 9700, 1GB Ram, etc...) but the framerates I get in Fly2 simply don't seem all that great when you have building scenery turned on at airports. Frankly I was expecting to not even think about framerates, but I drop to 10-15 FPS on landing at a decently populated airport, simply not smooth enough for reality. Turn off the scenery (leaving all other setting on max) and things smooth out to 30-40fps.Any thoughts on Fly's framerates in general, and a…

  12. The last tile (named Defiance) is about to be uploaded. This closes the TerraScene production project for Ohio, of which every part is now available in detail. This last global tile contains the very northwestern tip of Ohio, including the western portion of the city of Defiance. (You'll need the Lima tile pack to get the eastern part of the city, though the airport is within the Defiance tile boundaries). Here's a look at Defiance, straddling the tile borders of Defiance and Lima: http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/9123.jpg To the north is a portion of southern Michigan, including the cities of Hillsdale, Three Rivers, and Sturgis. To the west is the northeastern tip …

  17. In response to a request, I have produced a TerraScene project pack for Duluth, MN. This is a unique place - brushing up against the western edge of Lake Superior, Duluth juts a sandbar of an island as a long, narrow promentory above the shores of Wisconsin. http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/8820.jpg In the following images:1. KDYT (Sky Harbor Airport), which sits precariously on the southern shore of that island. Anybody for sometaxiways and buildings? I think this would be a fun one to fly in and out of.2. Overlooking KDLH (Duluth Intl.) - some nice airport scenery available for this from Wayne Roberts.

Hello All,I've recently started using Fly2 on a PC major performance boost from the MAC version!!), but I've so far run into a small problem.I have some "favorite" METAR weather that I like to fly with, but for some reason it doesn't appear in the "load METAR" window when I try to select a file. In fact, nothing appears. Is there some file format METARS need to be saved in to be visible to FLY in windows? I've tried saving them as plain text and such, with no luck. Other than advice, perhaps someone has a METAR file they can eMail me that works, I'd like to test it to see what might be wrong with mine, which were transferred from the Macintosh. Thanks and Best Regards,J…

Just one more to go now to finish the whole state! This global tile picks up a small strip of the northwest portion of Ohio, including, of course, the city of Van Wert: http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/8826.jpg The global tile includes a large portion of northeastern Indiana, including Forth Wayne (shown in the link below), Muncie, and Anderson.
