Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Does anyone know what the Standard light intensity in fly.ini affects? And is it possible to model a new beacon light to replace the standard wacky tower, perhaps with a larger light mapped onto it?

Hey everyone! I am delighted to see somuch work being put into Fly!II Fly is indeed 'alive'. Alive and kicking! With all of the great prodjects going on, I would fain ask for more, but I was just wondering...By post of message, What are the most needed ( or wanted) aircraft in Fly!II?I would love to see more general aviation airplanes. Particularly some lighte twins like the Beech Duchess or Piper Seminole. maybe something heavyer like the Cessna Conquest or Piper Twin Comanche or Beech Duke.Secondly, I think that seaplanes are an undiscovered gold mine! If Fly!II had an amphibian like the Republick RC3 Seabee or Grumman G21 Goose...Lastly, I think out-of-the-ordinary plan…

How does FLY2 load a certain terracened area by a quarter of a globe (as shown in the attached picture in a red square) tile or the whole globe tile (yellow broken line in the picture) at once or it only loads a scenery when a certain parameters is met? I tried rending a scenery by a 1/4 of a globe tile so that it would be easier to edit however I noticed that sometimes the terrascened area is there but sometimes it not there when fly2 loads. Example I terrascened KSNA, KONT, KPSP separately but when I start FLY2 1 of the 3 terrascened areas doesnt show up but when I hit Ctrl+E to scan the area they are all there. So I decided to terrascened KONT, KSNA, KRIV, KRAL togethe…

The Ashtabula project pack is now ready for uploading - I hope to get it up tonight. This tile continues the Lake Erie shoreline, picking up the remainder of Cleveland and extending as far NE as Erie, PA. It extends as far south as Youngstown. As with the rest of the project, just copy all the folders into TerraScene 2.1, set the render parameters to match the readme and generate.Over Cleveland/Cuyahoga Airport, looking to the WSW over Cleveland http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/3132.jpg The landscape near Ravenna, not far from Portage Co. Hello every one, I was hoping someone could give me some pointers, or even post their Fly.ini graphics settings. My performace is okay on my Athlon 1.33ghz, 512 PC133 ram, GF 4 Ti4200 (64 meg) system, but I think it could be better. I also believe that the Fly.ini is where I need to focus my attention. I'm using Terrascene (mostly default settings) and Terramodels with the 128 bit textures. Granted, I have quite a few sceneries installed and also tons of FSimport things going on as well. My frames drop to around 8-12 fps in busy places like SFO and BFI. I was hoping that someone with a similar system and setup could let me know about their custom video card settings…

Not bad. I managed to edit a flight plan and a taxi park, the two txt files that can be compiled into new bgl files for FLY2 to have AI traffic ala fs2002. The results were mixed. The plane started in a building, due to discrepancies in the coordinates. It taxied pretty well and then took off before it got onto the runway. This is partly because I did not have enough coordinate point( I guess the last coordinates should be at the point of actual liftoff, not at the beginning of the runway). We all know that taxiways, runways don't match exactly. This may be mitigated once one gets a feel for it. Otherwise, I encourage all of you out there to play with it. If you don't hav…

I'm back with this METAR problem in Fly. I've posted this problem last year and followed some received recommendation. However, my Fly! (and I hope only mine) metar dosen't work at all.See the two examples below. I've created them by my own. Fly load all of them but it simple mix stations and it is a mass. And worst, sometimes overviewing the weather in Fly, it reports rain for the station I'm in and there is no rain there.I have also downloaded Metar using Enviro! and the problem is the same. Fly mix stations.Have somebody experienced the same problem? Should I expect that I'll be able to fix it? Could somebody try to use this two examples and report if it has worked?---…

I've slowly been learning how to use new "tools" for Fly!2, but so far have not ever tried to adjust taxiways. I flew over Nice (LFMN) and noted that my taxiways are very different than those in the screenshots posted on ROTW's Simvol site. Here is a picture from their site...http://fly.simvol.org/telechargement_fly2/...ges/Nice-02.jpgHere is a fly-over I did yesterday....http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e81c1054537cde0.jpgI am using ROTW's "Taxiways-f2_v23" files. Any help in getting mine to match theirs is appreciated.----David KohlFly! II v2.5.240Dell 8200 P4/1.8G, 1024MB RAM, Nvidia GF4 Ti4600 v41.09, WinXP Home Edition SP1.CH Pro Pedals and Yoke USB.

I installed Cannes2_v1c.POD and found an excess number of 256 textures there. My 256 tex count was up in the 700's when the airport was in view. I couldn't figure out specifically what model(s) were causing the problem. Anyone having this issue as well? I've had similar problems (although cannot recall if its the 256 tex counts or some other slot) at Gap Tallard (LFNAv1.POD) airport, also in the SE France. Very slow framerates when the airport is in view. This is a shame. I'm really enjoying all the flying in France but have had some issues with high texture counts at a few French airports.ROTW: Any chance on figuring out the issues here and revising? I think you guys do s…

Local store has a good deal on the X45 Joystick/Rudder set. Im contemplating it, but I'd like to know if Fly! II can handle inputs from more than one controller before I get it.I've wanted to, for a while now, build a set of rudders. Once I get a USB joystick, gameport would be free for this, and I would want to give it a whirl. Anyone running X45, with game controller rudders?--And if youre using the X45. How well does it work with Fly! II?

Hi Folks, I think I am the only one having problems with the new C4TO, I am at CYYC with a flight plan to CYXD which I am cleared for, take off, Fly to but then don't get any Descent instructions, change to aproach etc & I fly right over the airport at 21,000 ft. I had the same thing happen with 3.1 with patch. The last C4TO I got to work was Version 2 & it worked perfect. I have removed that Version before installing the new ones so am at a loss as to what I am doing wrong. Any help would be greatly apreciated as I do love C4TO, many thanks for all the hard work put in to it. I am flying the Air Canada DC9-30, I have also had this same problem flying to other Air…
