Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Recently installed Fly!2 patched it with the most recent patch and tried to follow the instruction pegged to the top of the forum (which are a huge help I might add). I have a couple of questions maybe some folks here can help me with.1. I have been flying to and from KAUS (Austin Bergstrom) and KSAT (San Antonio, my home field) and have found that although the scenery is correct for KAUS (I guess becuase I downloaded the KAUS scenery from the library) the KAUS placement on the Vector Map is incorrect. The vector map shows the olfd Austin airport that was closed a couple of years ago. Is there a way to fix this?2. In the flight planner, I occasaionaly get the message '…

Hi forumA new plane has landed in the library. The LIRPA I is a prototype from a secret project aiming to define the next aircraft generation. At ROTW we have had the priviledge to be introduced to this project and have the authorization to make a model (slightly modified) for the FLY sim. This aircraft will be publicly demonstrated at the next june INVO salon. The plane uses new revolutionary material making it almost undetectable, inexpensive propulsion and a new HUD feature. It is presented here in a French livery.A future stealth version is under study, based on a technology known as 'transparent support', derived from the photo industry. We signed a non disclosure agree…

InfoMETAR 1.403 is nearing the end of beta testing, and is expected to be released shortly!Major new features of the forthcoming version include:1) A new "Thicken" weather processing functionality that improves on the accuracy of the older "Thin" functionality, by importing duplicate copies of each selected weather report in order to increase its interpolation weighting.2) Automatic download and decoding of NOAA's forthcoming AFJ weather data reporting format, which provides combined METAR and winds/temperatures aloft data formatted specifically for use by simulation programs. Soon to be available from the NOAA FTP server, AFJ reports will contain both the current and fo…

  7. Installed Paul's Birmingham scenery yesterday.Excellent job Paul, thanks.I used IrfanView v 3.8 and had no trouble at all by following Paul's instructions for that and also for Terrascene, neither of which I have used before. To all of you who have been put off by the problems David Taylor mentions don't be. If I can do it then so can you.Allow plenty of time for the terrascene generation.I have tried to download his Teeside scenery but get an error message when I try to unzip it. I have since tried to download it again but keep getting cut-off during the download. Is anyone also having trouble with it?:-wave

Apart from having troubles with the ailerons of FlyHawk, trimming it seems to be no option at all. According to the menu Options - Keys and Buttons, I should be able to trim the ailerons with Num 1 and Num 7 (these are the default settings, and I did not change anything). No matter how hard I push these buttons, no trimming is achieved.Who can help?

Thats what they allways say ,right?! Well, Iam in the prosses of trying to get better frame rates by using the tweak_kit_for_flyII.zip from the avsim library and have not had much sucsess. Mainly, I sart a flight and open the (debug? it's the screen you see when you press the 'tab' key twice) and I see zero slots alocated to everything. Is that normal? I read that the frame rates drop when the Total (o,t) is greater then the slots alocated. Any input would be apreciated. Right now I am using Fly! II build 2.25.240 I have a Mac, G4 800mg Geforce card with 32mg of ram.using OpenGL as the renderer.

  12. I fly over this area often as it is just so beautiful. Since installing much of your Oregon TM Airport scenery, I now fly frequently in the Pacific Northwest. I believe I have all your airports in WA and OR. Maybe you could take some more time in this area. It is truly beautiful to fly in.See some shots: http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID47/17674.html-DK----David KohlFly! Been lurking for a few weeks now, and after reinstalling Fly2 I installed all the patches and a few of the add-ons I read where I can increase the resolution in Fly2 to greater than 1024x768.I play on a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 8200 w/ Geforce 4 440 Go vidcard) and have tried changing the resolution between 1600x1200 and 1400x1050 (both 16 bit) and there are graphic problems in both. When I change cockpit view and look left, right, up, down...when I come back to the main cockpit view, the panel refreshes, the view outside refreshes, but there is a portion of the window that doesn't....the graphics just flicker and generally look bad in that section.Does anyone know if the…

I have recently purchased Fly!2 and have just begun flying it.I cannot keep the ailerons in neutral position. The plane tends to bank all the time. The only way I can fly straight is by 120% concentrating on the yoke for all-the-time bank-correction. This way I have no opportunity to pay attention to anything else.I am flying the FlyHawk in the easiest possible way (reality as low as possible).I use the simple Brake off and full throttle method to get airborne.I also fly MSFS and AS2 and with these two simulators I can let the toke loose in neutral position without banking.Does anyone have a clue?

However, I noticed after linking over to Real Air's website because of the news item on the avsim front page, thay Real Air also has an improved flight model for the Fly! II flyhawk.Has anyone here used it and how does it compare to the flight model Rob Young did for the 172?Thanks.mogwai

I'm wondering if I should reinstall. I followed the patch/update process from the day Fly2 hit the shelves to the final patch. But I wonder if my airport beacons don't appear because of some hangover from the earlier patches that a later patch missed. Is everyone else seeing a beacon at every airport that has one?And I don't see any windsocks either...

Better yet, If you read this Brenton, would you mind posting here?I noticed this file a long time ago and Have wonded if it will ever be completed. Is Brenton still making planes? Has he forgotten about the 'Alpha1'? Now, to you all who are reding this and are not Brenton Clark, Is anyone up to give him a hand? I read in the aircraft discription that he would welcome input, but I think help would also be apreciated! And perhaps if we all yell, "Yeah!
