Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

  2. I am enjoying the Vermont airports, particularly now that I've TerraScened most of the State. But landing today on Rwy 15, I noticed some disconnected runways. The screenshots illustrate the findings...Anyone up for the fix? Shouldn't take too long with some "Taxiway" or "Terramodels" skills .... both of which I don't really have.-DK----David KohlFly! I've been tweaking with the render ini to try and improve my frame rates whilst flying around the Manchester and Birmingham airport scenery of Steve Brown ( Paul Brooks's scenery also used ). The scenery is excellent but I get the 4 fps problem at times and wonder what the mip level count and mip map flag values mean in the overall scheme of things.I did try a Fly II forum search to get some info on this but had no luck. Also has there been a posting explaining exactly what the frame rate debug info means?Dell inspiron 8200 1.6gHz nVidia GeForce 440 Go 64meg video card;384 meg RAM; Win XPPerhaps Johnny might add the answers to his FAQ page? Thanks in anticipation.:-wave

This great Heatrow (EGLL) scenery is made by Preston N (Captbulldog).Originally he choosed not to pod this scenery in order to override the TRI default terminal. Having hundreds of pictures and models in my /Art and /Models folders, I had a big problem using this scenery at the same time. So, to use Preston`s humourous words, I hacked his scenery :)I sent the response file to him in case he wanted to use it, and he kindly suggested I should upload the new files, as he is quite busy with other things these days, so here it is, EGLL airport in one single pod, and with a new cities.pod to remove the default terminal. I higly recommend David Taylor`s Terrascenery "Heatrow Zon…

Have you UK fly users noticed that Paul Brooks has done 3 more large photo scenery areas -all complete globe tiles of Birmingham,Leeds-Bradford and Tees-side. They are available in jpeg form, so that you can use Terrascene 2 to complete the large tga's that Fly!2 needs. Both Paul and I are waiting to see how people make out with this process, which is described in Paul's attached .pdf document.Dave Taylor.

  9. Hi Folks,I was at the local BX and there was Fly on the rack. Packaged like the "good ole days"(Large box, thick manual). So had to buy it to complement my Fly!II earlier purchase. Got it patched to the latest version. Due to my being on dial-up, all those nice pods you all have in the library are un-touchable for me.I've searched here and at the TR official sight for a fold-out type keyboard reference card. Figure I'd print it out and paste to light weight poster board. You all know where one is available for download? I could make one; but hoping one already exists. I've already got the commands key list printed, looking for something nicer.Am in process of downloading…

In the whole time that Richard was going through his trials I never really knew what to say. I did not know what if anyhting I could do to help him. Now that he is gone I feel that a friend has gone and I never got to say goodbye. So if you will bear with me here is my tribute to Richard. It's not much and I am no writer, but it is what I see when I think of Richard in Heaven.===================================St Peter heard the bell ring and went to get the door.St Peter heard the bell ring and wondered who it was for.As he opened up the doors he could not believe his eyes. There standing in front of him was a hero of the skies.

  13. I was going to ask this question in the PMDG forum, but with all the FS2K2 stuff going on there, I figured I'd start here.I've been having trouble getting ILS guidance to appear on the PFD, despite tuning the ILS tuner properly. I've read the manual, and I think I'm doing everything properly.I'm attempting a non-AP landing at KATL, ILS8R. I verified that this is an ILS runway by pulling up the Fly!2 runway directory. I also checked the frequency: 109.90.This screenshot illustrates the final approach just before touchdown. As you can see - no ILS comes up on the PFD.NOTE: I've tried this several times, both during an established flight plan and on a quick go-around. The sc…

considering the great contribution that you're making to scenery, this small questionrequest is almost embarassing. Why not add paths to your zip scenery files? The unzipping of these files requires this constant fear that I will inadvertently skip or save a file in the wrong directory. Just a question. Your contribution to populating FLY2 scenery is next to none, and I hope that you write TRI and hurge to include all of your sceneries in their newupgrade FLY3.tony

ANYone,I have a couple of little problems...First, when I'm outside the airplanes, I now have a 1 inch thick black bar across the top of my screen. Is that supposed to be there? (I personally doubt it.)Secondly, I don't appear to have any brakes on the right side...When using the Mustang, I get left brake on BOTH pedals, which I find to be just a little bit disconcerting.I'm using Ch Products USB Pro Pedals.p.s. The brakes work fine in X-Plane, so I know it's not the pedals themselves. The other thing is, is that I can't get theregular brakes to release, either. In the lower right cornerof the screen there is a box that says BRAKE. It doesn't goaway.Anyone else having the…
