Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Just sent the Northwest 757 repaint off to the AVSIM server. The Northwest 757 is best viewed with environmental mapping on during daylight operation and off at night. The SAS 757 should be uploaded tomorrow night.Pete

flydevelopers.com went live last July. As with any new web site the traffic was OK at first, then slowly died off to almost none. I set it up to allow developers a place to share alpha and beta work and to assist each other with their projects. I currently don't see that there is a real need for this kind of service. My question to you is this. Is there some need or void that the site can offer the Fly community? The current server has all the features of a modern content management system. Including forums, HOWTO section, FAQs and file download section. I would like to give something back to all those who have done their part to make this the best flight sim in t…

I have noticed lately that Bibers models are not showing up. If I go into the editor they are there, but if I exit the editor they are not shown, and I don't get any errors. Anyone with any ideas?? Thanks.

The recent Tampa file at AVSIM has finally gotten me off my duff and motivated me to install TerraScene 2.1 - but I can't get it to work at all! It was a clean install (i.e., no TS 2.0) and the install apparently was successful according to the messages I received. The install log shows all "successful" reports for all of the steps. However, when I double click on the program icon to run it, nothing happens - no welcome window asking for the location of fly!2, nothing!! I get the executing hourglass for about a second and then it goes away. What am I doing wrong? I have 11GB of free disk space remaining on the install drive (D) and 512 MB of RAM on a PIV 1.5 MHz mach…

This is a special request for a SAS livery for the 757. SAS does not fly the 757 so this is an imaginary repaint. Andrew, how does this look? I've got to do some re-alignment on the rudder graphics and add night lights but she's basically finished. I had a request for an Air France 757 so I'll do one for my ROTW friends.I've included shots with environmental mapping both on and off to give you an idea of how this will look. I usually like having mapping off but in this case, mapping looks pretty good.Pete

I have had a couple of you guys ask me why you cant load my scenery around the Northwest of England E.G. Liverpool EGGP V2, Manchester EGCC,Manchester Woodford EGCD and Manchester Barton EGCB. One thing is for certain, they are all in the same "smallish area" covering 254,172 and 253,173.You go to one Airport and another is loaded too.If its me (My fault) Im going to have to scrap them all, and I dont have the good health to start over again. I had a breakdown a few years back and started all this (Flight sim) to help me get back into dealing with people and the outside world again. (I could not go outside the house for 4 years)Now Im going back on the pills from my GP.Im…

Whyfor can I not enable both alt hold mode and speed hold mode at the same time in the AP?I gather it's supposed to be that way?John/madmax(edit) - additional question: seems like at low airspeeds (160-ish KIAS) I can cruise quite happily at 8 or 10% throttle (roughly 333 PPH/engine). Is that right? My intuition says it seems low, but maybe my intuition is off-kilter.('nuther edit) - the plane seems unhappy if I try to fly with two or more notches flaps without also having the gear down. Why's that? Is there something intrinsically bad about flying around at low speed with 2 notches flaps, but not having deployed the gear yet? Usually I reserve deployment of gear unt…

I've managed to fill up 60GB of HD space in just over a year of PC owndership. I'm considering buying a new HD and moving my entire Fly!2 installation there. Has anyone done this? I want to just move the entire Fly!2 directory structure over. Can someone whose done this give me an idea of the issues I'm likely to face and the things I can do to reduce the difficulty? For example... 1 - Changes to INI files I must do manually2 - Issues with third-party apps like TerraScene and TerraModels3 - Any registry work I'll need to do.BTW: Should I expect a modest performance bump on the basis that Fly!2 will be on a separate HD from the OS itself? Thanks all.-DK----David KohlFly!
