Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Hi,I'm just wondering if somebody experienced the same.Trying to land at some airports is almost impossible for me. On the final (flaps conf.+right speed+gear down+about 100 feet above the runway), suddenly the plain lifts up (up to 2000fpm) with attitude -45 degr. (nose down) and won't let me descent. Unless, I retract flaps to half, shut off the throttle and experience a free fall on the runway. If the ranway is long enough I do manage to land (I'm lucky not having any sick passengers physically behind me).I noticed this behaviour at some airports created with FSImport, but can't name them now, as I always thought it's my lack of pilot skills (have been flying real plai…

A general question about podded files:What determines the priority of which pod file fly reads and executes first? In the instructions for Didier Regault's PodCreator program, he mentions a "priority factor" but indicates that this factor is used for sceneries.Specifically: I have previously installed Roberto Vigetti's Default Aircrafts Fix v.2 which contains a pod file (AC_defaultFix.pod) of fixes for certain default aircraft. Since I enjoy taking things apart and putting them back together again, even if they are not broken, I dissected this pod file into its individual files, ex. TRI4.amp. Now obviously, if I place this file in the World folder, I realize the fly progr…

I've been trying to regain my FSAA in Fly!II without success so it look's like I am going to have to re-install the program. This is the last repaint until I get Fly!II re-installed. I have to realign the aft door and fix some join lines then I'll post this later this week. ERJ repaints are still waiting until I get the FSAA going again.Pete

Hi Fly!ers,After read some news from Microsoft with so many improvements (weather, aircraft, real GPS, etc.), I'm wondering what will hapen to Fly! when the next FS will be released. Will ROTW team continue to bring the best aircrafts for Fly!ers? Are YOU change to FS franchise and put Fly! II on the shelves?Well, unfortunately I'm not sure. Maybe I will take my project ahead developing my brazilian scenery package, after all I'm Fly! user since day one and have all the tools (or almost all) to make great scenarios, but in the future with so many FS advantages over Fly!, who knows? Will be the end of Fly! II ? :-(Keyton Cabralhttp://www.aerovirtual.com.br

I am a dedicated user of Fly!II for the PC. Anyway, I noticed that the Final patch includes the first ever patch for the MAC version. I am not thinking of switching over, but am just curious. For those in the know, does the MAC patch bring that version to a parallel level of fuctionality with the PC version? That is to say, does it include all the fixes and improvements that went into the PC version since release? What about add-on aircraft like the PMDG airliners work with it now? Judging by the smaller size of the MAC patch I am guessing it does not, but I was just wondering how the two versions compare after the final patch is applied.ThanksAndrew

Sorry guys for bothering with this topic again. I know there's milion of messages like that.I went through all the posts on the forum and guides I could retrieve re the flattening.I tried to create a new airport (did the db entries in AIRPORT and RUNWAYS). All entries have a fixed altitude (1228 MSL) to avoid problems right at the beginning. Having followed instructions to flatten the area, I imported the area and used Flattenator. First, to create all 4 quarter files I had to set the 'corner' range to 2x2 degrees (strange though). Anyway, by first run it didn't flatten the area so I was well above ground on one side of the runway and sunk on the other.I got a message th…

Hello all:This tread was meant for Ken Salter, but since I can't reach Ken by email, is there anyone out there that can help me. Maybe Ken will see this and respond! Last evening I successfully loaded Ken's "Tex_Switcher" program onto my unit. I went through the setup and selected the winter texture and started up Fly! 2. Everything works great.Question: Since this is winter time, flying around with winter texture is fine. However, later on, I will want to go back to using the generic texture. How do you switch back and forth from generic texture to winter texture? Is the switch over automatic? Do I need to switch over? Is the switchover permanent?Great program!!…

An aircraft was about to crash and there were 5 passengers on board and only 4 parachutes. The first passenger said: "I am Roy Keane, one of the best footballers in Ireland. I am worth a lot of money and my fans need me so I think I should be saved."The others agreed and gave him one of the parachutes and off he went. The second passenger said: "I am Gerry Adams, a radical Irish politician who can really help my country and I think I should be saved."The others said: "O.K." and gave him a parachute. The third passenger said "I am David Beckham, captain of the English National squad. I have a wife and two sons. Everyone knows I am a really nice guy and everyone thinks I am …

...but that doesn't mean that there aren't some great projects in the works.Johnny keeps track of most aircraft (except the helicopters ;-)) and european sceneries being developed, but there are also sceneries being worked on such as Wayne's, Keyton's, etc. Padraic keeps improving FS_IMP, ROTW keeps coming up with fantastic utilities and wonderful aircraft, and as time goes by the community of developers and the number of developer groups continues to grow. For those who have been with Fly! for a while and are contemplating the idea of modeling a new aircraft, I have a piece of advice: take a look at the aircraft files, try to understand how the .PNL and .AMP files work to…
