The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Greetings,Can anyone tell me if there is a way to let Fly! II know from what distance to start rendering buildings at an airport when one starts an approach. Personally I'd like to see the buildings in the distance when I'm about 4 miles out.Are the following two lines in the fly.ini related to my question, and if so what changes do I need to make?popBuildingsIntoView=0popBuildingsTolerance=20An answer would be much appreciated.Cheers,

No matter what the number in the fly.ini, at most there's only one plane that appears at the airport where FLY2 starts. The others are always going randomly to other airports, and rarely land at the "airport" where one wants to taxi for takeoff. Does anyone know anymore on this?tony

Hello,I have been adding scenery enhancements to the New York and Long Island area from your File Library. After doing a number of them, I started to recieve thefollowing error response when I tried to teleport to KJFK :Msg: Can't load texture DATAd2031597917A44F4.RAW: File not foundFile: texture.cpp line 1376Time: Sat Feb 15 16:05:27 2003errno = 2 (No such file or directory)I have located d203159. I am new to this and I am not sure if 7917A44F4 is another part of the data file. Now that I located itwhere do I need to relocate it so that I can enjoy flying out of JFK ? I am unable to teleport to EWR, JFK or LGA. I amhowever able to teleport to ISP. Thank you for your time.

I've been working for some time now on a repaint of a 172 flown out of the Bergen Flying Club in Norway. With the help of Gunnar (who provided pictures, information and testing) and Johnny who also helped test, she's finally ready and uploaded to the file library. I've made a lot of changes outside including the new livery, and realistic wear and tear to the fuselage and wings (oil streaks, stains, etc). I've also done a lot of work in the cockpit including changing the color of the interior fabric and making one low back seat instead of two. These changes make the interior look more like an older 172 P Model rather than the SP. I've also added new placards in Norweg…

Okay folks, it is that time of year again... We have kicked off our spring fund drive. What's that you ask? Simple. An easy and convenient way to show your support of AVSIM and a means for you to contribute to keeping our doors open contributing to the expansion of our services (read the front page today about our latest server acquisition as an example).Providing growing bandwidth and expanding services to the flight simulation community is not cheap (as anyone who runs a web site of any size can tell you). Bandwidth is not cheap, and replacing machines to keep up with demand is expensive too (figure $3,500 to $4,000 each time we buy a server - these are not your normal …

I was just flying the Kingair, and noticed for the first time that the Marker Volume knob (which I'd never really noticed before) actually works.Just a nice little touch. I'd played with a lot of the other things, like the annunciator test button and so forth. It's those "little things" that really add to a sim, IMHO.

I spent the day today at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washinton D.C. I had the privaledge to see many of the aircraft that made aviation history: the Wright Flyer, Bell X-1, Spirit of St. Louis, Patty Wagstaff's Extra 260 and others. As I looked at each of the aircraft and tried to imagine them flying for the first time, I thought about my friends in the Fly! community. I saw many of the aircraft we fly in our simulation...Cessna 172, P-51, even the upcoming Beechcraft Staggerwing! I wish I could have seen Fly!2 demonstrated there to show just how great computer flight simulation could be (they had an old copy of MS Flight Sim 98 on display). I believe man…

I am using FS-Importer and installed a few FS-sceneries.After successful flying in the FS-Sceneries I noticed that no Fly II/ Terramdels scenery is loading, they are all gone. The files and folders are still at their place, no other installation was made.Is this a problem of Fly II ?Priority to existing Fly sceneries is checked at FS-Importer.Who can assist ?

I installed something that wants this, and I don't seem to have it. Since I can't (that I know of) search inside zip files with the file lib search tool, I'm at a loss. Any idea would be quite appreciated!madmax

I just downloaded and installed the sea_pak building file - it is a really nice addition, but with Terrascened terrain, a good fraction of the buildings are sitting on top of water, which is a bit disconcerting :)

The planes that shipped with Fly! when they produced Fly!2? I was looking thru a manual I printed out from Fly! (before returning the software to EB...my pc wouldn't run it back then :( ), and noticed that it included recognisable planes like the Cessna 172 and the Piper Malibu Mirage. However, now that I've got a decent PC and Fly!2 I notice that the planes are fictitious (albeit close 'cousins' of the above mentioned aircraft). Is this something to do with copyright and royalty payments??? How come old M$ get's away with it?Just inquisitive you know :)Duke

As a newbie to Fly!2 I was wondering if it was possible to use aircraft models created for Fly! in Fly!2? I see a lot of planes I'd really like to fly but am not sure if they are compatible with the later version. Do they not work full stop? Or do they require some kind of conversion? I notice they are all prefixed with .epd whereas in Fly!2 they are .pod.Any help much appreciated.Duke

Hi, I'm a relatively new flightsimmer and need help activating the magneto switch in the 172 with my mouse. All other switches are operable. Presently I have to use autostart to get going. The problem only occurs in the 172R in Fly2K. Any help would be appreciated.

See subject...Fly II runs like, well, crap on my system, a P4 1.8 Ghz with a GeForce4 128MB card. It stutters and is impossible to fly, especially in turns. I have Fly2k also, and wonder what I need to use TS2 with it. I think I need editor 1.06, but I cant find it anywhere...do I also need to download textures packs?1811

Hello all:Ever since I switched over to OS Win2000, (from Win98), the Autobrake Panel does not work on any of the A/C that autobrake panel has been installed. Has this happened to anyone else?? Does anyone know the reason why autobrake should not work. While operating A/C with OS Win98, both Autobrake and Autothrottle panels worked like a charm!Any help would be apprieciated!!Thank you in advance!Curtis

I've been attempting to enhance the stock Oahu in Fly II. Using a combination of terrascene, some rather poor satellite images, and a bit of free-hand drawing, here's what I came up with. What this scenerly really lacks is detailed elevation data.(The taxiways are by Michel Provencher and are available in the AVSIM library as taxi-hawaii.zip.)Rickhttp://cc.ysu.edu/~rick/phnl2.jpghttp://cc.ysu.edu/~rick/phnl1.jpg
